Cenk Esen's name has been reverberating around London's jazz scene for the past several years, establishing him as the go-to keys player for those in the know. The son of pioneering Turkish Jazz-fusion keys player Aydin Esen, he has spent a lifetime perfecting his chops, studying at the prestigious Berklee College Of Music before relocating to London, and becoming one of the most formidable pianists on the circuit, including performances at Ronnie Scott and other renowned venues. Almost a year on from their debut joint single ‘Jesse James’ on WotNot Records, South London producer Dampé and Bristolian MC Mushkilla once again join forces, this time taking to XVI Records for their driving new single ‘Ghost Mode’. With Mushkilla working closely with rising dubplate label EC2A, and Dampé putting out a series of heralded 12”s on Capitol K’s Faith And Industry Records and Singapore-based imprint Darker Than Wax, both artists have been riding busy schedules since their first release. Next up on the ever-eclectic XVI Records, a shadowy figure steps into the spotlight: enter the mysterious Captain Over, whose dark yet soulful bruk-infused tracks soundtrack the next stage of their voyage towards the sun. For his debut outing, Captain Over calls on the abstract vocal stylings of the legendary Trim (Roll Deep, 1800 Dinosaur) on opening track ‘SICK’.
