Demuja opens a new chapter in his career this August with his new long-player, 'Period Of Time', and his debut release on Universal Music.
Demuja has long been a respected name in contemporary electronic music. His output, which straddles the lines between house, disco, electro and jungle has over the years been released mostly via his own imprint MUJA, but also with the likes of respected labels such as Shall Not Fade, Nervous Records and Toytonics.
With 'Period Of Time' Demuja joins Universal Music to showcase more of his unique take on modern day electronic sounds with a nod to the old school. Alongside the album release, Demuja will present a trilogy of accompanying music videos, based around the artifact used as the album art, entitled The Discovery, The Inspection and Enlightenment, which will collectively form a complete short film as well.
Throughout the 'Period Of Time' LP Demuja explores new realms of electronic music on compositions like 'Spirit Soldie' a jazz-tinged, heavily swung electronica cut featuring Larry Houl. Opener 'Love Is Free', 'The Time Has Come' and 'Night Racer' present a more vintage synthwave style, fuelled by chuggy arpeggios, bright strings and crunchy drums, while 'Love Somebody Else' featuring Lorenz Rhode and 'Wasting My Time' alongside Mr. Beale highlight Demuja's intricate, soulful side.
There are of course some contributions with Demuja's raw house style such as the raw '32 Filters', ethereal 'Existence' and acid house vibe of 'In My Soul', as well as of course a jungle track which can always be found in Demuja long players. 'Funky Pill's concludes the album on a jazzy jungle tip and nods towards his early days in electronic music while rounding out the beginnings of his future.

Demuja joins the Madhouse roster this March with ‘Come To Me’, a four track EP featuring French/Australian singer Ladybird and a Folamour remix of the title track. After various releases on the likes of Nervous Records, RTCT Records, and his own label MUJA, Austria’s Bernhard Weiss aka Demuja joins Madhouse with some fresh material following last year’s output on House Puff and Freerange. The release opens with title track ‘Come To Me’, a rough and ready Lo-Fi number featuring a soulful sample, and blissful stabs of horns and strings. Following is the Folamour’s ‘Lost In Eden’ remix, twisting the original into a Balearic, sun-drenched vibe, contrasting the original and bringing a more funk-infused, melodious feel to things. Halle Weissensee (or Weißensee if you wish) starts where Sascha Funke’s last Ep for Running Back stopped. Mesmerizing house and techno music that interweaves classic forms with modern means and looks through the lenses of nostalgia with an open mind.
The Halle was a former engine plant in Berlin that got converted into a rave areal for the now legendary Mayday raves and one of the birthplaces and leading spots of the nineties. Coincidentally and unknowingly, 1993’s winter edition was attended by Funke and Gerd Janson and a conversation about it spawned this record. Don’t be mislead: this is not a retro rave fest, but an ode to the esprit of the times, the possibilities if an envisioned future and maybe most of all an afterglow. While Reality (sounding like a Relief record if the label would have been a topic at Bauhaus university) and the warped bleepiness of Halle Weissensee itself come closest to the actual sound aesthetic of that very night, Fantasy invokes the language of contemplative deep house from vintage New York, while Puzzle evokes a notion of what the same thing could be with the prefix progressive instead. Reality often falls short behind fantasy, but once in a while both complement each other very well.
Short: Halle Weissensee is Sascha Funke’s second Ep for Running Back. Named after the legendary rave warehouse, its four tracks far from being a retro rave. Mesmerizing house and techno music that interweaves classic forms with modern means and looks through the lenses of nostalgia with an open mind. An ode to the jackin’ Relief sound meets bleep tracks, contemplative deep house and progressive hypnotism.

The Halle was a former engine plant in Berlin that got converted into a rave areal for the now legendary Mayday raves and one of the birthplaces and leading spots of the nineties. Coincidentally and unknowingly, 1993’s winter edition was attended by Funke and Gerd Janson and a conversation about it spawned this record. Don’t be mislead: this is not a retro rave fest, but an ode to the esprit of the times, the possibilities if an envisioned future and maybe most of all an afterglow. While Reality (sounding like a Relief record if the label would have been a topic at Bauhaus university) and the warped bleepiness of Halle Weissensee itself come closest to the actual sound aesthetic of that very night, Fantasy invokes the language of contemplative deep house from vintage New York, while Puzzle evokes a notion of what the same thing could be with the prefix progressive instead. Reality often falls short behind fantasy, but once in a while both complement each other very well.
Short: Halle Weissensee is Sascha Funke’s second Ep for Running Back. Named after the legendary rave warehouse, its four tracks far from being a retro rave. Mesmerizing house and techno music that interweaves classic forms with modern means and looks through the lenses of nostalgia with an open mind. An ode to the jackin’ Relief sound meets bleep tracks, contemplative deep house and progressive hypnotism.

The towering super-human structure bears a multitude of nurturing hand-gestures, suggesting support, comfort and togetherness. Built from roughly textured grey concrete and resembling a technoid, monolithic bunker or industrial space in itself, the loving, humanist symbols of peaceful action mirror the culture of inclusion, love and acceptance practised on the dance floor.

Originally released on CD only by Sapporo Jazz Create in 1994, My Favorite Tune is a beautiful bop adventure which includes two superb compositions that Ryo Fukui wrote as an homage to his belo-ved Hokkaido region, the fan-favorite "Nord" and "Voyage", a tribute to his mentor Barry Harris ("No-body's"), alternate versions of his mega classics "Scenery" and "Mellow Dream", and, last but not least, bewitching takes on timeless gems by Sonny Clark and Avery Parrish.
My Favorite Tune plays like a cool summer night, full of contemplative notes and deep feelings, with Ryo Fukui baring his heart on the piano and displaying the soulful sophistication he is loved for. A true masterpiece completing his amazing discography.

We Release Jazz is very happy to announce the official reissue of Ryo Fukui's only solo piano al-bum, recorded live, June 4-5, 1994 at The Lutheran Hall in Sapporo. Sourced from the original mas-ters, this intimate offering from the Japanese jazz legend is available on limited edition 180 gram vinyl mastered at half speed for full audiophile sound, as well as on digipack CD. Both formats come with liner notes by Yusuke Ogawa.

Exploring many themes including loss, grief, ancestry, culture, belonging/not belonging and identity. It's no coincidence that Bolis Pupul's music sounds the way it does. Born in Belgium to a Chinese mother and Belgian father and raised in the super-cool creative city of Ghent, Bolis' music is a joyous cross-cultural assemblage. Mixing widescreen electronica with the warm-hearted and wonky naivete of Belgian New Beat, Bolis' singular sonics are at once playful, emotive, unrelenting and tender. The real key to unlocking Bolis' musical secret, however, is that conversation he has between his Eastern and Western roots. The creation of the album is built around Bolis' trip to Hong Kong earlier this year, made to reconnect with his late mother's roots.

Underground mainstays Rework released this standout track on the legendary Playhouse label and it is one that established them as pioneers right from the off. It was followed by several vital albums and releases on the same label, as well as the likes of Visionquest and exlove records.
Here, they revisit their original, which features vocals from Laetitia, and update its cold minimal grooves with fresh energy. The bass rolls deep, and the drums are snappy and upright as the edgy chords keep things full of suspense. Laetitia's soulful stylings are cut up and smeared through the mix to make for a brilliantly driving and emotive track.
Visionquest co-founders and long-time techno talents Seth Troxler and Ryan Crosson also pair off for a remix. Their version is full of trippy sound designs and wiggling hooks. It's a tightly interwoven minimal groove with an afterparty feel, and the original vocals bring their own seductive vibe.
The second remix comes from much-loved Berlin native Cinthie, who runs the Elevate store and 803 Crystal Grooves label. She recently served up a fantastic mix for the legendary DJ Kicks series and brings her timeless sound to this remix. It is raw, dusty and perfect for sweaty basements, as its hypnotic loops and punchy kick patterns are draped in old-school chord vamps.
This is a great update to a dance music classic from a fine selection of scene favourites.

The new album captures the music commissioned to score RichardSiegal's Ectopia performed in 2021 by Tanztheater Pina Bausch with Shooting into the Corner (2008-09) by Anish Kapoor. Building upon the captivating blend of immersive dub and electronica from the first installment, HYbr:ID Vol. 2 takes the listener on a journey into the realm of intricately manipulated digital production. These ten compositions delve into infinity, drawing inspiration from resonance and elasticity, concepts rooted in Minkowski's four-dimensional spacetime model. Throughout the album, Carsten Nicolai summons precise rhythmic patterns that gracefully hover, reminiscent of celestial bodies orbiting in perfect cosmic unison. The sonic landscape gradually unfolds with somber and brooding tones, incorporating spacious sound design, ethereal atmospheres, and cascading metallic percussions. These elements are delicately crafted with artistic finesse, set against a backdrop of expansive dub textures. At times, the music takes unforeseen turns, as melancholic chords skitter and meander through a digital haze, evoking an atmosphere of introspection and emotion. The ten compositions are accompanied by graphic notations informed by the album’s sonic and acoustic codes.
