The Journey Men alongside vocalist supremo Mike City get things underway with ‘For the Culture’. The duo has built a notable following through their distinct deep & bumpy soulful DJ sets, a sound which they effortlessly carry through to their own productions. ‘For the Culture’ is pure uplifting & inspiring house music with Mike City’s true & heartfelt vocals explaining quite clearly the love & passion connected with what they do.
Black Sonix ‘Danny’s Jam’ (a nod to Danny J Lewis by Black Sonix) takes things on a slightly deeper route, using hooky chords & killer bouncing basslines to create somethings rather special – it’s pure energy from the off yet still with that soulful touch & has been an ever present (and much sought after) track in a few A-listers DJ sets over the past couple of years; finally, the secret is out!
Refusing to be outdone on his own label Sean’s ‘Wanna Be Good’ is packed with all the qualities you’ve come to expect from a no-nonsense McCabe Dub! Just enough vocal in there to keep you on your toes with a slick analogue bass & rampant chord hook to keep you right in the centre of the dancefloor. It’s another one of those closely guarded secret weapons that has had people running to the booth.
Wrapping thing up is ‘My Way’ a debut original collaboration between Sean McCabe & Dave Jones as Motion Severn (called that due to the Severn Bridge which separates where the pair live). Dave & Sean’s relationship stretches back to 2000 where Dave actually offered Sean his first DJ gigs, so this coming-together as a production duo has been a long time in the making! Paying homage to their shared love of the classic Strictly Rhythm & Red Zone Dub sounds, their work here recreates & reimagines that classic era of house music but for a new generation to enjoy, something recently shown through their remix of Solution’s ‘Was It Just a Game’ (also on GVM). More

Featuring 4 new to vinyl releases & including a raft of luminary names from across the soulful spectrum this is sure to be a be a hot fave with long standing fans of the label.
Glenn Underground’s Jazz-Funk fuelled rework of 'This Place' kicks things off and needs no introduction… heavily supported & much loved through the soulful circles & beyond with the likes of Louie Vega, Dave Lee, Jimpster, Jamie 3:26 & Fred Everything (to name a few!) all loudly banging the drum – people have been clamouring for this to be on vinyl. You spoke, we listened!
Up next is 'Modulate', a collaborative force of the highest order between Sean & long-time friend Black Sonix. Expertly fuzzying the lines across Deep, Soulful & House is somewhat of a speciality for the duo respectively and there’s bags of all 3 intertwined throughout alongside a hefty sprinkling of sun-kissed, Latino-inspired pianos.
'Still Standing Here' kicks things off on the B-side and begin in March 2022 as vocalist Madeeha recorded an accapella vocal idea in a phone voice message, quietly singing into her phone to avoid waking the neighbours. She sent the idea to drum & bass producer from Bristol, DJ Mixjah, who then approached friend Sean McCabe with the idea. Together they produced a hypnotic afro-tinged soulful backing track to fit with the voice message, with an intention to re-record it in a studio environment. Sean and Mixjah soon realised that the music they had created blended perfectly with the sincerity, intimacy & rawness of Madeeha's heartfelt performance in the original voice message and decided to stick with it. A firm fave for Atjazz, Crackazat , DJ Spen & Emmaculate.
Wrapping things up is 'You Don’t Know', a slick & energetic dancefloor bubbler from London based producer/DJ ‘David Bailey’ and Canadian soulful songstress ‘MissFly’. David Bailey is a firm favourite amongst the London house music community. He’s produced standout releases on labels such as Idris Elba's 7wallace, Makin Moves, Good Vibrations Music, Rhemi Music & Unquantize. MissFly is known for her soulful serenades and ability to write songs 'on the fly' in the studio. Good Vibrations Music dives straight into 2022 with a bang courtesy of ‘Harold Matthew Jr’ (aka Big Ed) with his long player project; "Peripheral Vision".
Chicago-based Harold wrote his first releases in the early 90’s with artists like Ron Trent, Terry Hunter, Maurice Joshua and Ron Carroll with songs such as "Ritual Of Love" and Barbara Tucker’s "I Get Lifted". Throughout the late 90’s he was well known for his songs under his ‘Blak Beat Niks’ alias with production partner K. Fingers on PAN Records, Large Music and his own label Melodious Fonk with "The Sun Will Shine". The 2000’s saw him move on to further projects with the likes of Slip N Slide, Mark Knight, Peppermint Jam, Glenn Underground, Makin’ Moves and Sean McCabe.
Moving into the next chapter, "Peripheral Vision" is a genre-spanning journey, drawing influences from a multitude of angles and providing a true reflection of Harold’s passion for song writing and spoken word, with a host of guest producers and vocalists.
"Deep Into My Sleep" opens the release and brings Cardiff’s ‘Black Sonix’ to the party and Harold’s sublime vocals provide the narrative to the afro tinged beats. It’s got soulful undertones a plenty with warm rushes of BVs and percussive rhythms to keep feet dancing way into the late night hour.
"Put Your Hands Together" gets serious on the dancefloor with driving beats and an explosion of synth flicks, hits and stabs. It’s Sean’s subtle nod to the Trax era, suggested by Harold, and set to become a firm fave with those that like their groove a little more analogue.
Effortlessly moving through the soulful gears, Harold and Sean McCabe’s "Into You" brings guest vocalist Dawn Williams onboard for a lazy, hypnotic and sumptuous slice of house. Set amongst an uplifting backdrop of smooth chords and lushed out riffs, the vocalists playfully bounce off each other asking questions and telling answers whilst keeping all elements sat firmly in the sweet spot.
Another Cardiff-based producer ‘DJ Fill’ shifts up the groove with "Pause". Still oozing the soul but with a more Hip Hop-meet-Broken Beat vibe and peppered with smooth Rhodes, niggly electronic arps and a bassline that ain’t letting you go. Harold and Syl Messi go head to head with the lyrics, bringing together a smooth and edgy vocal balance for something truly special and unique.
Proving that all good things must come to an end, the title track "Peripheral Vision" closes things out featuring guest raps and production from Chicago’s own ‘Nickel Slick’ on their mission to rebuild and re-educate through the power of lyrics. Black Sonix kicks things off fusing together stabby organ riffs, catchy Rhodes melodies & soaring strings which all provide the perfect backdrop for the oh-so catchy vocal hook to weave in and out… proper vibes right here! Next up is Sean McCabe’s Moody Dub which takes the track a little deeper into the early hours through its tight, energetic-yet-smooth drum arrangements, sweetly layered synths and low, niggly bassline which continuously prods & stabs the groove in all the right places - effortless brilliance once more from Sean.
Rounding things off is Motion Severn who slows the pace down a little whilst adding in a distinctly retro flavour.
