Long term Seven Hills friend and collaborator Thee J Johanz returns to wax for the third instalment of our original release series.
This release runs close to the heart for Johanz as it was produced in the wake of his mother’s passing and stands as a profoundly personal eulogy for loved ones passed. Where Goes Your Soul? has all the trademark spiralling synth lines and hypnotic rhythm making that we have come to love in Johanz’s music making.
The title track of the EP: Where Goes Your Soul? stands alone on the A side but carries more than enough weight to hold its own. Stabbing synths build alongside a subtly haunting vocal, up to an awesome crescendo and intoxicating groove. Kicking off the B side is Two C Bee, an aptly psychedelic mix of soft pads and helical synth arpeggios. The EP closes with an impressive bubbling analogue landscape, Analex. This beat-less masterpiece with a sincerely cinematic feel, rounds things off in style. More

Glasgow's Work For Love have once again descended deep into the cellars of Thee J Johanz early 90’s DAT recordings and pulled a companion selection to 2017's Declassified EP.
This time they've come back up the ladder clutching a sultry yet sturdy triple-tracker, a little snapshot detailing the full spectrum of house and techno hybridisation that was rife in the rave at the time. The EP kicks off lovingly lamenting the second summer of love with the proto house jam of Tender Tales which features Johanz himself giving his best Sleazy D impression on vox whilst masterfully tickling the 303 to several squelchy climaxes.
Flip over for Desire, a curled-lip 4am weird and wonky warehouse destroying techno leviathan that captures the stark minimalism of yer best Axis records and ads a real touch of John Carpenter esque menace to the affair. Bringing things to a close is the refreshing twinkly pulse of Prophet to say goodnight. More

Thee man, Thee myth Thee legend! Making records and shaking rumps since `93 AS Thee J Johanz (historians might know better), he is a cornerstone of the electronic music scene in the Netherlands. Here we have him debuting on Running Back with four tracks. Traditional, yet refreshing, in equal parts quirky and easy to apply, they show and balance the mechanical genius, deepness and sense of humor, Johanz displayed from day one. "More Love!" is the archetypical electronic disco track that owes as much to Giorgio Moroder creativity as it does to the inventiveness of Japans engineers. "Kickin' In" is a Patrick Cowley cover with its proceeds going to the San Francisco Aids Foundation. Finally, "Warped Minds" pays tribute to Cowley's production methods and principals with a "More Cowbell Reprise" thrown in for good measure. Thee, we salute you!

For our 4th original release we have a meeting of minds between two of our very close friends, Subb-an and Thoma Bulwer!
Made deep in the green countryside of Devon’s hills, before being adeptly finished off at TB Studios in Hackney Wick, the Devon Hills EP pulls together influences from 90’s tech house and early breaks to bring four driving and groove-laden tracks, functional but with heaps of soul.
The A side comprises two late night Autobahn bangers, rubbery misbehaved basslines and precise chord rhythms made to hypnotise the dance. Devon Hills is the most outspoken of the pair, with a loud chiming hook and an earwigging bleep melody, while DV-07 prefers to remain composed in its rolling bassline and sharp drum programming.
On the flip things go a little deeper with DV8, a padded out and chunky tribal breakbeat track with a deliciously crunchy snare. Closing out the four-track EP, East Wick lightens the mood with a sporadic break and bouncy synth melody, great afters tackle. More
