Auf Luca Ballerini sind wir ganz besonders stolz, hat er uns doch mit seiner erfrischenden Art Musik zu produzieren richtig begeistern können dieses Jahr. Sowohl als DJ wie auch als Produzent verweist Luca Ballerini auf seine großen Vorbilder Sven Väth, Carl Craig und Basic Channel. Auch die Musik von Levon Vincent und Omar S hat den aus Verona stammenden Ballerini stark beeinflusst. Sein aktuelles Release für Cocoon Recordings lässt genau all diese Vorbilder und Einflüsse klar erkennen.
„Impressions Of A Dawn“ erinnert stark an die musikalisch-emotionale Phase eines Sven Väths Mitte der 90er. Auch die großen Detroiter-Carl-Craig-Sounds und die Dub-Verweise von Moritz Von Oswald & Mark Ernestus sind spürbar. Ballerini sucht den musikalischen Ansatz, die Komposition, das große Gefühl. Ein Track ist bei ihm nicht einfach nur ein Beat und eine Bassline, hier werden Geschichten erzählt und Emotionen entstehen. Auch „Orizzonte“ folgt dieser Ästhetik und erinnert in seiner Art fast schon ein wenig an die großen Titel eines Guy Gerbers oder die musikalischen Ansätze eines Tim Greens, womit Ballerini in guter Gesellschaft bei Cocoon Recordings ist. Verona based producer and DJ Luca Ballerini is our latest discovery and a perfect proof that Cocoon Recordings is still looking for new kids on the block and gives them the chance to step into the arena. Although we have to admit that Luca Ballerini is not a complete rookie anymore. After his debut on Siena Recordings in 2010, Ballerini founded his own plattforms and released several productions on Musical Metaphor and Wax Jam. 2014 saw his debut on Shlomi Abers "Be As One" label which says quite something about Ballerinis sound and style. The dreamy and harmonic techno productions of Shlomi Arber or Guy Gerber seem to be the blueprint for Ballerinis style however the Italian producer is not copying here at all. The israeli influence is noticable but Luca Ballerini creates his very own style by adding straight and solid techno- and house-beats. This special mixture covers a wide musical range from relaxed after-hour-techno to emotional peak-time clubsound. The perfect soundtrack to make it back to the clubs, leaving the cold and rainy open airs behind and heat up again for the all upcoming hot party nights!

We Release Jazz (WRWTFWW Records' new sister-label) is proud to present its first release, the official reissue of Ryo Fukui's highly sought-after masterpiece Scenery (1976), sourced from the original masters and available on limited edition 180g vinyl mastered at half speed for audiophile sound and on digipack CD.

Unquestionably one of the most important Japanese jazz albums ever recorded, Scenery reveals Ryo Fukui as a miraculously brilliant self-taught pianist fusing modal, bop, and cool jazz influences for a very personal, dexterous and game-changing take on classic standards made famous by Bing Crosby and John Coltrane among others. From "It Could Happen To You" and its serene and calm intro which magically flows into a jubilant and upbeat piece, to the out-of-this-world piano solo of "Early Summer", or the incredible teamwork of "Autumn Leaves" where Fukui leads Satoshi Denpo (bass) and Yoshinori Fukui (drums) into groove heaven, every single note on the album oozes precision, confidence and flair and every single section slides seamlessly into one another, creating a supreme and elegant blend of jazz. Often compared to McCoy Tyner or Bill Evans, Ryo Fukui was a genius in his own right, a true master of his craft whose perfectionism gave birth to some of the greatest music ever recorded. Scenery is his magnum opus and an absolute must-have.

The Hokkaido wizard-pianist followed Scenery with the soulful gem Mellow Dream (also available on We Release Jazz) in 1977. He then focused on improving his live skills, often performing at Sapporo's Slowboat Jazz Club (which he co-founded with his wife Yasuko Fukui) and releasing 2 live albums. Ryo Fukui sadly passed away in March 2016, leaving behind a legacy of works that is sure to captivate jazz lovers for generations to come.

Key Selling Points
After he hit their sweet spot with a little 3/4 psychedelia on the ‘Kraut Jazz Futurism’ compilation, new Berlin based imprint Kryptox founded by the Gomma & Toy Tonics crew (yes, that new label dedicated to new jazz electronica phenomenas from the uprising German scene) do the sensible thing and tie down nomadic percussionist Niklas Wandt for his first ever solo EP. Anyone with a dancing shoe dipped in the underground will recognize the dungareed Berliner from collaborative outings with Bufi-body popper Wolf Muller, synth shaman Sascha Funke or his NDW dream team Neuzeitliche Bodenbeläge (whose funky bassman Timo Hein helps out here), and now he’s rolling (mostly) solo with four tracks of far out head music. Largely built around improvised drum jams recorded in Wandt’s rehearsal space in Berlin, the sounds on the EP mutated and matured before assuming their final form under the mix.

PSSSH 003x enlists a diverse range of producers to reimagine the labels third offering. DJ Plead, Huerta and Aubrey all turn in stellar remixes along with 2 new remixes from Dauwd himself. DJ Plead kicks things off with his signature bass heavy sound on his version of The Yuzer, setting a high bar for what’s to come. Accompanying him on the A-side are a couple of cuts from label founder Dauwd. The first, “Electronic Live Mix” of SpaceSamba is inspired by Dauwd’s live performance at Mutek 2022 while his Deep Dub Mix of The Yuzer could be some of his best work to date on the imprint. On the flip Huerta houses up SpaceSamba which an excellent dance floor ready remix and Aubrey rounds things off with a solid groove interpretation of The Yuzer.
