FBK - I'll Sit Back (Len Faki Hardspace Mix)
3
FBK - Hassling (Len Faki Hardspace Mix)
This February, Rekids look to the venerable talents of Len Faki for three fantastic remixes of tracks from FBK's 2019 debut album, ‘More Stories From The Future’. For two decades, German artist Len Faki has towered over the techno underground thanks to his renowned DJ sets at cult venues like Berghain, and his always on point productions. They have come on staples like Ostgut Ton and Cocoon, but mostly on his own powerhouse outlet Figure. Over the years, Faki has provided a number of excellent remixes on Rekids, including Dustin Zahn and Radio Slave himself, thus it’s incontestable that he’s the best person to remix Kevin Kennedy’s incredible album – and the result speaks for itself. Up first is his ‘Hardspace Mix’ of 'Headless', which becomes a sublime seven-minute techno roller. Utterly hypnotic throughout, it has looped one-word vocals, smooth claps and wiry synth lines all intertwined with perfectly rubber kicks. The excellent mix of 'I'll Sit Back' builds to a more manic peak, with hammering hits and steel-plated drums all demanding you march to the increasingly dark techno groove as a vocal repeat’s the title over and over. Finally, the mix of 'Hassling' is built on hulking great drums that will rattle warehouse walls, and has dub techno chords draped throughout: it finds a perfect sweet spot between irresistible functionality and atmospheric form.A1. Headless (Len Faki Hardspace Mix), B1. I'll Sit Back (Len Faki Hardspace Mix) B2. Hassling (Len Faki Hardspace Mix)

American producer FBK returns to Rekids with his debut album entitled 'More Stories From The Future'. Long-term house and techno heavyweight, Kevin M. Kennedy aka FBK has a career spanning three decades. Debuting with a seminal release on Frictional in '97, Kennedy went on to appear on labels like diametric. and Urban Kickz, whilst more recent releases have landed on Barba Records, Suspected (alongside Paul Mac) and Rekids - kick-starting the label's Special Projects series. With a close bond to Detroit greats like Anthony 'Shake' Shakir, Daniel Bell, Claude Young, Keith Tucker and Sherard Ingram (DJ Stingray), FBK is considered a true contemporary. Returning to Rekids for his inaugural long player, 'More Stories From The Future' demonstrates his versatility within the studio and mirrors his genre-bending approach to performing, both as a DJ and live act. 'Modular Life' brings deep resonating lows, liquid pads and clinical percussion, before the psychedelic vocals of 'I'll Sit Back, You'll Jack' join smashing snares and intensifying synths. Exhibiting erratic sound design, 'Layers of Fear' comes complete with pumping drums and intense hi-hats, until 'Hassling' offers a stepping groove, thick pad stabs and deep sub movement. 'Headless' gets modular heavy with bubbling effects and shuffling rhythm, preceding the driving kicks of 'Gate Closing' where ghostly vocals meet enveloping acid growls. 'The Boxing Lesson' delivers punchy kicks and steppy snares under lofty atmospherics, ending on 'The Finisher's Heart' where evolving detuned synths flow over powerful percussion.

5th release of the strong Barba records! And its FBK who's back featuring a remix by none other than Claude Young - a Detroit heavy-weight who's been particularly selective with his output. Kevin's previous record for Barba, a 2016 twelve titled "Screaming Her Name", also featured a remixes by Terrence Dixon and Plural. Between then and now Kevin managed to put out a track for "The Cast Project" VA and a solo EP for Radio Slave's "Rekids" imprint. As we mentioned earlier, "Eclipse" features two original tracks, the title one and "To A Place I Know". "Eclipse" track is closer to the sound we've come to associate to FBK's productions - equally banging and meditative. This track takes you for a spin with hypnotizing lead synth, distorted acid lines and drums that intensify the vibe as the track progresses. It's dark and moody, but perfect for those moments when the dancefloor is ready to dive really deep. "To A Place I Know" starts on the similar note but as soon as the sampled vocal loop takes the lead it takes the song to a much happier place. Hypnotizing element is still unavoidably present but here the synth line is more subdued and plays a supporting role to the vocals. Something you would play when you need to dive out from the deep and feel some sun on your skin. Finally, Claude Young's remix of "Eclipse" is a fairly different affair, focusing on the meditative aspect of the original quite literally, and taking it to a whole other level. It is an exercise in restraint and patience, with a slowly-rising tension masterfully achieved by a piano line, ambient pads and synth textures subtly exchanging roles throughout the whole length of the song. Simply wonderful. All that, pressed onto a heavy duty 180 gram vinyl and beautifully packaged in an original artwork traditionally featuring local artists

Rekids introduces a new vinyl only series titled Rekids Special Projects. A more techno orientated division of the label that will feature appearances from the likes of John Hester, Markus Suckut, and DJ Deep amongst others. First up is Ohio-based producer FBK, real name Kevin M. Kennedy, who has a career spanning three decades and after a seminal release on Frictional Recordings back in the 90's recent releases have seen him appear on labels such as Marcel Dettmann Records, Barba Records and diametric. Intricate drums and jagged synths initiate ‘You Are Not Fixed’ whilst a looped sample recurs throughout the mix. ‘Dynamonium’ then enters deeper territories as echoing stabs join a low slung meandering groove before ‘Set It Free’ ups the energy with rumbling kicks, distorted vocal murmurs and tantalizing melodies. ‘The Final Escape’ then closes the release with a syncopated drum arrangement, mesmerising chords and ethereal atmospherics.

FBK aka Kevin Kennedy is a hardworking man, be it battling computers and machines when producing music or when going out there and getting job done. In either case, one things is certain - theres no messin' around. He's also one half of 'The Fallen' a duo performing live, showcasing their love for banging darker industrial/wave inspired techno. His pal James Johnson aka Plural, artist with release on legendary Metroplex label last year, provided great remix on this latest EP by Kevin under his FBK moniker for Barba Records. All three original tracks are long building, big room, grooving stompers with a lot of emotions that would fit in various sets pretty much at any time. To keep things entirely 'D' footed, the legend, the man of weird, beautiful, unique and reduced techno world - Terrence Dixon rounds things up with his hypnotic re-interpretation of title track.

Sven Väth - L'Esperanza (Hardspace Mix)
Tracklist: (1) Sven Väth – L'Esperanza (Original Album Version) (DE-Q20-24-00009)
(2) Sven Väth – L'Esperanza (Hardspace Mix) (DE-Q20-24-00010)
L'Esperanza (Hope) is undoubtedly one of Sven Väth's greatest hits. After more than 30 years, we are very proud to revive this timeless masterpiece for you on Cocoon Recordings. The artwork of the A-side is from the original 12" cover, which was released on Eye Q Records back then. Anyone who knows Sven recognizes that he has always felt free and evolved in terms of appearance and style. That's why we instantly loved the idea of Sven re-staging himself in the same pose but in a new guise. This picture disc documents a 30-year-long transformation, both sonically and visually. It is a beautiful journey through time and a true collector’s item.
A1: L'Esperanza (Original Album Version) 1993 Produced in 1993, this track has certainly not lost any of its charm over the years. Lovely string sounds envelop you in a cloud of comfort, while the filtered downbeat emphasizes this feeling of lightness. The catchy tune of the playful synthesizer melody invites you to close your eyes and start dreaming. Let yourself fall into a deep state of meditation and trance. The airy electric bassline comes with a charismatic power and opens a door to the subconscious, calling on you to dive deep. The atmosphere of this composition sits somewhere between drifting through the sea and hovering through space.
B1: L'Esperanza (Hardspace Mix) 2023 A revised version of the "Hope Will Move Mountains Mix" by "Visions Of Shiva" occurs on the B-Side in the form of Len Faki’s hardspace mix. Len is renowned for his elegant edits and refined modifications as part of his side project, this time delivering a stripped-down 135 BPM version that fits perfectly into the current zeitgeist. A club version of "L'Esperanza" that radiates a high level of euphoric energy, constantly pushing the rhythm patterns forward. All hands go up in the air at the latest when the piano part starts in the middle section. Let’s go back to the good old days of the original 90s trance sound since the cheerful arpeggio synth melody takes us along.
What is certain, you can't tell that either version has been around for 30 years.

Oceanvs Orientalis - Neutrality (Nick Curly Remix)
Oceanvs Orientalis teases his highly anticipated album 'Portrait of the Obscure’ on Crosstown Rebels with the third and penultimate single ‘Neurality’, remixed by 8Bit and Cecile head honcho Nick Curly. Istanbul-based Safak Oz Kutle, aka Oceanvs Orientalis, is a producer and live act who blends the rich sonic cultures of Turkish, Kurdish, Armenian and Arabic music to curate his take on electronic music. The first two singles from his forthcoming album on Damian Lazarus’ legendary Crosstown Rebels have showcased his diverse sound at its fullest, and now the third offering and final single ahead of the LPs release confirms him once again to be a standout talent as he unveils the captivating sonics of ‘Neurality’.
An absorbing and stirring production, ‘Neutrality’ brings a darkly involving groove that is multi-layered and hypnotic, with several shimmering vocals, jangling percussive lines and ethereal pads all locking you in for an enthralling ride. A remixer who needs little introduction, Nick Curly is as integral to the tech house genre as anyone in the scene, heading up key labels such as 8Bit and Cecile while helping to define the genre as we know it today. His interpretation is deep and warm, with slinky drums carefully deployed amongst vocal whispers that bring human soul. An excellent final preview into what’s still to come, ‘Neurality’ delivers another exceptional production, leading perfectly into the release of the full-length project this April. More

Radio Slave - Wake Up (Idjut Boys 'Shed' Mix)
Superpitcher and Idjut Boys remix Radio Slave’s ‘Wake Up’. Radio Slave’s spoken word slow-burner ‘Wake Up’ dropped on Rekids March ‘23, winning support from the likes of Roman Fluegel, Louise Chen and Red Axes and continuing a run of singles that explores the house and disco roots of the iconic British UK/Producer. Now, he invites Kompakt a?liate and Hippie Dance co-founder Superpitcher alongside UK duo Idjut Boys to reimagine ‘Wake Up’ on a fresh 12”. The original ‘Wake Up’ saw Matt Edwards, aka Radio Slave, utilise low-slung grooves and an iconic speech-like vocal. Superpitcher remixes the track ?rst, turning it into an acid-infused trip with its vocal samples echoing through cavernous, dubbed-out soundscapes. On the ?ip, we see Idjut Boys turn up the ?ange in their hypnotic version while maintaining the original’s bassline and stripping back the vocal to eerie whispers.

Pete Heller's Big Love - Big Love (Original 12" Mix)
It’s almost hard to believe that a record with anthem status like Pete Heller’s ‘Big Love’ was created out of a happy accident, but that is exactly how it happened. Left to his own devices as his studio partner Terry Farley went to watch a Chelsea game, Pete Heller was playing around with his Akai sampler when he produced what is arguably one of the most recognisable pieces of dance music of the 1990’s. Earlier this summer Urbana Records boss and Spanish powerhouse David Penn took to remixing this enduring classic. Winning over dancefloors in Ibiza and beyond with his signature rolling bassline and infectious groove, the record soaring to both Beatport and Traxsource #1. Now Defected present a special 12” package that features David’s remix, joined on the A-Side by The Dronez Remix, where house masters Erick Morillo, Harry Romero and Jose Nunez lend their classic house capabilities to the track. On the B-Side is Pete Heller’s original, sounding as incredible as ever over twenty years after its original release, once again proving the timelessness of ‘Big Love’.

david morales pres. the red zone project - Don't Go (Ryan Elliott Remix)
Following on from David Morales’ appearance on the label earlier this year, Rekids tap up Shed and Ryan Elliott for a pair of percussive reimaginations. Well known for remixes of the Thompson Twins, Shawn Christopher, Clive Griffin and the Pet Shop Boys, Morales’ Red Zone moniker was conceived during the Def Mix legend’s formative years at the renowned club sharing the same name. 50 Weapons and Monkeytown’s Shed adopts his Head High alter ego for a remix that draws the original’s vocals into the spotlight before planting thunderous kick drums beneath whilst dusty pads operate above. Meanwhile, Ostgut Ton affiliate Ryan Elliott crafts a reimagination that incorporates breaky percussion, a rumbling low end and sweeping astral synths.

The follow-up to the first Acid Sampler is now in the hands of a single artist. Space Dimension Controller does Running Back the honor to leave his fingerprints on the (usually) silver box - and it’s a match made in heaven. The Irish man’s music is mostly a nod to the subtle and more delicate ramifications of electronic music. His Acid Sampler is no exception. Most of the EP presents itself as an ode to the brain dance vibe of acid house rooted music. While leaving out the harder and faster styles of the genre, SDC manages to pour his heart and soul as a producer into these four charming tracks.
Kosmische Conga works as the leader of the pack and pirouettes with memorable hooks, synthesizer swells and descant acid lines. Echopet introverts the whole concept, while Minehead peaks with it. Named after the seaside town that harbored the Bloc Weekend festival, its a warp-free romantic reflex of the brain dance vibe – or a heartfelt love song for circuits. Carinacid completes the quartet with a chugging and hugging mid tempo beat that could have gone on forever. Acid test passed! Artwork by Gasius.
