As Weekend Circuit approach their 20th release, Argentinian duo YYYY return for their second full length EP on the label to celebrate this benchmark. The YYYY modus operandi is already familiar to the initiated - expressive, raw techno experimentalism from the outer reaches. 'Carry This Blood' is a collection of 4 moods and sounds, carved out with emotion soaked ambience, synapse flaring distortion and machine fracturing rhythms. 'Repent', as the title suggests, takes no prisoners, leaving no survivors in it's wake, it is a glimpse into a tear in the time-space continuum where chaos rules. 'Hands Towards The Giver' is epic, glacial, spacial widescreen techno. Dramatic and urgent, the soundtrack to a doomed planet collapsing from within 'Carry This Blood' bestows an eerie, cold feeling. An atmosphere of regret and loss hangs over it like a thick fog on a hillside, punctuated only by a heartbeat mimicking kick drum offering a human touch. P.E.A.R.L. is no stranger to the Weekend Circuit inner circle. Having released his ‘Desolation’ EP on the London label in 2015, his unique and refreshing productions slot comfortably in to the label's sonic aesthetic. Pulsating, submerged field recordings and natural sounds bristle next to menacingly hewn tones, rhythms and textures, creating a strange and disorientating environment across 4 parts. EP opener 'Body Arched I' encapsulates this alien-esque landscape, beckoning us into the P.E.A.R.L. sound-world. Slowly unwinding drones gradually draw us in, layers of almost synthetic jungle sounds, field recordings and eerie atmospherics create images of unseen landscapes in our minds. One gets the impression that is merely the calm before the storm, it will be a long, dark and revealing night. Second part 'Body Arched II' ups the ante considerably, a blistering assault on the senses. Cavernous kick-drums dance with repeated synth lines and synewaves creating a narcotic, unforgiving and swirling miasma of epic proportions. 'Body Arched III' opens the second side of this formidable slab of vinyl. The energy levels are still high, the mood somewhat foreboding. Unapologetic, urgent and oozing kinetic energy this 3rd movement continues on a journey that will sweep you deeper into the blackest night, all systems failed, flying blind. In the right hands a piece like this can wield colossal power. The fourth and final part of 'Body Arched' taps into a more psychedelic vein, a minimalistic mantra-esque piece that continually spirals to the very outer edges of restraint. London's Weekend Circuit imprint returns with a 5 track EP from label owner Michael Wells entitled ‘Three Marks of Existence'. The EP marks Michael's debut on the label and is a signifier of his future direction as a producer - meditative, tense, unfolding electronics and monochrome ambient environments inform this release. The deepest of deep space is contained within EP opener 'Antecedent', an almost menacing, enveloping track that engulfs us during it's 5 minutes or so of existence. 'Verge' follows and is driven by speaker puncturing taut, tribal drum programming and swirling satellite sounds, creeping further into the nexus. Subtly heavy indeed. ‘Three Marks of Existence' mines an altogether different vein, an epic, widescreen vision of downtempo electro that is damaged, on the fritz, but containing enough melodic beauty to retain hope. Souls in the machines. Weekend Circuit acolytes YYYY return to the scene of the crime with a monolithic remix of 'Verge' that opens the second side of this EP, showcasing their unique style and interpretation of the original mix, and following on from their previous split EP with Stanislav Tolkachev and their own EP ‘Intention Of Mortal’. ‘Ilmatar' leaves us out and leads you into the cold night, the final transmission from the ‘Three Marks of Existence' signal. Fierce drums punctuate the night sky and barren landscapes while somewhere deep inside, memories are remembered. Equal parts thought provoking and anxious, the perfect end point for what will undoubtedly be a formative benchmark in the Weekend Circuit canon. More

Italian producer Alfredo Mazzilli presents us with Logical Strength, his second EP on Weekend Circuit. Across 4 tracks he expresses his own unique take on the deepest strains of Techno and it's outer reaches. EP opener 'Logical Strength' is a throbbing piece of driving, menacing wormhole music with heavy arpeggiated sounds and rock solid, incessant drum-programming, leaving nothing standing in it's wake it is a firm statement of intent. 'Nuvole' see's the pace change slightly, adopting more of an eerie, borderline hallucinatory feel. The track unfolds beautifully with heavenly pads and synth swells draped across some tribally infused drums.
On side 2 we have a stellar remix of 'Nuvole' from eminent Swedish producer Evigt Mörker who travels a more subdued, sedate path with his interpretation. Finishing off this 4 track excursion we are drawn into the beatless, introspective terrain of 'Parhelion'. A beautifully nuanced and subtle way to close things. Washes of synth and atmosphere embrace us as we travel onwards, deeper into the night. Alfredo Mazzilli shows us once again his own individual and unique style on this EP, another essential chapter in the Weekend Circuit story. More

Bringing his hallmarked temperament to the 4/4 format with beguiling results, Weekend Circuit welcome Par Grindvik for his first full length EP on the label. 'Sole Survivor' performs an intense viewpoint of institutional rhythm. Pencil sharp, and strikingly imperfect tones delude the mind and mistreat the senses. A virtuoso of Par’s distinctive sound, is eager and apparent as ever in WCR016. ‘Breath' is rich in melancholic atmosphere, drones and feedback loops; a short yet multifaceted & hypnotic introduction leaving you no time to prepare for the incoming fervour of whats to come. ‘Detached' is a perpetual motion of phenonmenal high energy - percussion avidly spliced together through a digital attention span. A strong, rumbling tower of unsettle that keeps coming back ever more bold and engaging. Like a haunted soundtrack to A Space Odyssey, comes the simmering sound of ‘Hail Fellow Well Met'. Conveying an otherworldliness, this 3 minute stance on electronic music moves with warped energy and glitch. Wry fluidity grabs you by the feels and sustains an ominous tension over on the B side. ’Sever' is a maelstrom of consistent percussion, keeping a nervy uncertainty throughout, while ‘Left Alone' wields an ever evolving siren of searching sound & noise. Grindvik at his best, this cathartic and rich variation of sound fulfills Weekend Circuit’s 16th release. More

Blaring and unnerving, YYYY's 'Intention Of Mortal' gets revisited with a remix package featuring Lucy, Varg, Ascion and YYYY themselves, resulting in a barrage of arpeggiated behaviour and regimented soundscapes. A force pushing forward creativity with on-point refinement, Lucy immediately veers in with his visceral power of sound. An avalanche of intricate and experimental arrangement soon meets a series of astute percussion and typical foreboding energy, retaining a certain texture-over-beat throughout. YYYY's depth of music imagination & influence is heard in this highly charged, awestricken ensemble for their rework of 'Intention Of Mortal'. Unfolding a mixture of fear and complication, this track keeps you thinking as well as moving. An almost endless supply of plucked synth rhythm keeps the chaos taut and throughout. Ascion's remix of 'Stone Relief of Gods Faces' credits the release with clean kicks, industrial clanks and atmospheric keys. This no-nonsense approach to production is not to be underestimated; a dream-state sequence of induced electronic abstraction. YYYY have already fortified their position in the Weekend Circuit family with the ominous drones of ‘Locus Of Control’, their split release with Stanislav Tolkachev earlier in the year. Returning with an inscrutable depth of self-explorative techno, the labels 14th release ‘Intention Of Mortal' is a sonic dissonance of combined heavy-going and captivating artistry. 'Stone Relief On God's Face' is the plangent tone YYYY have chosen to begin their narrative. Formed from tribal, religious and industrial undertones, this beat-free immersive environment of sound brings with it a warm introduction. A2 sees ‘Regain' quickly permeate the release to a passage of expansive and clear cut techno while continuing a dark intrigue. The standout bass and rolling kicks make it an undeniably compelling and dance hard track, harnessed by its own evolving soundscapes.
'Intention of Mortal' with its improvised hook, merges 90s space voyager highs, echoed melody and fragmented rhythm in to an ever impending trip to the horizon of happy imminence. Thought provoking and full of stimulant, B1 brings a flood to the senses. Saving the most dizzying until last, 'Reach For Forgiveness' is a harmonic war-machine of disjointed, pulverising electronic music capable moving the unnerved. A cross of lurching percussion makes the steady reps of the kick warped and emotive. Expressive and unapologetic, YYYY have come back with an unneutralised description of what techno means to them.

After 2 revered releases since the turn of the year, Weekend Circuit return, welcoming Alfredo Mazzilli for his first EP on the imprint. Versatile in sound and challenging in his approach, Alfredo’s ‘Invisible Entity’ EP masterfully pushes ambitious ideas with great vigor to an international audience ever more ready to listen. ack for the second volume of "Ground-Fault-Interrupt”, a compilation series launched last year by the London based imprint inaugurated by Michael Wells, which has developed into a respected destination for enthusiasts and hardsteppers alike. Remaining in a state of evolution, Weekend Circuit continues to celebrate all that's raucus and right, split across a 2 record release. Returning to the label are Jeff Rushin, PEARL, Developer, Alderaan, and IY, Stanislav Tolkachev, and Antonio De Angelis while Par Grandvik makes his debut. This double vinyl compilation is a mix of pulsating, essential, bottom heavy, and ultimately diverse techno. __ Par Grandvik and Jeff Rushin start sounds off on side A, "The Act" is a dusky concoction of church atmosphere and clean percussion, giving "Graphite" the platform to continue with an abyssal measure of agile percussion . Side B enters with P.E.A.R.L.'s "Azul & Oro" - an exposed hyper-dash kick drum, chopping between closed and open hi-hats throughout to keep an ever elastic momentum, leaving Developer and "Lost Moments" to follow with this echo immersed, high-casualty workout of pertinent techno articulation. The 2nd vinyl is just as downreaching and subaqueous as the first, with Alderaan's "Sequel" immersing you in ambient decadence with an industrial lean. IY's "Nara" further trips you out with an instinctive feel and likely energy of highs and lows. The D side is inward techno at its best, reaching out to the ominous and misanthropic of society. "Framing" is a drone of slow pace drive, suitable for only the strongest in techno. "Anomaly" embodies tradition and experimentation. Just 6 months after his debut release on the label, Weekend Circuit invite Alderaan back at the helm of techno. Alter ego of Buenos Aires artist Franco De Michele - already revered by some of the industry greats - presents 'Statics' / 'Golden Ratio', a manifestation of progressive and dynamic techno, with Stanislav Tolkachev taking the B side. Hailed as one of live techno's notorious artists, Stanislav makes his first appearance on the London based imprint, presenting an abstract take of ever intense, rolling techno for the remixes. With previous releases on the likes of Semantica & M_REC LTD, Tolkachev - originally from Ukraine - comes as no newbie. Falling through the techno paradigm, this multi-tiered EP cuts a circuitous progression of moving sounds and energy. With the embodiment and animation of life, Alderaan adds his percussive punch and whirlwind of complexity to both 'Statics' & 'Golden Ratio' on the A side. Hosting 2 tracks on side B, Stanislav bounds through with a fix of dark vitality and abstract session, cascading between light and dark. Weekend Circuit stride on with the second part of P.E.A.R.L.’s ‘Desolation’ EP welcoming Francois X, Reeko, I/Y and Jeff Rushin to this series of remixes, servicing the generation with every bit of expansive energy techno music has to offer. Francois X’s remix of ‘In Space' architectures raw, artificial, and flat-out production with gritty realism and brutal drum sequencing. Taking the original and making it his own, externally imposing in on itself, this peak time pattern leaves you energised and hectic. Reeko takes on the title track ’Desolation’, the result is plagued with atmosphere; stripping, capturing and examines you before you have chance to do so to it. The tracks estranged essence and amalgam of sound is immediately apparent. It has you uncertain and poised for more, pulsating with darkness at every turn. I/Y's 'Reduction' reduces nothing of the sort, constantly fluxing between varying percussion types of both hi and low energy. Considering nothing more than to possess you with filter laden drum pads and a stark reality, IY have created a hypnotic vision of creative compulsion that'll have you dance yourself silly. Rushin delivers his sonic canvas of sound; every bit his own, this original piece of production magnifies any opportunity to cause dancefloor commotion. Weekend Circuit return for the second release of the year, this time welcoming London based debutee Rommek to the imprint, with two suitably noteworthy remixes to accompany the 12”. Delivering 2 cuts of his individual brand of weighty atmospheric Techno, Rommek’s first ever EP, ’Thought Patterns‘ is a sign of promising things to come. After stand out releases on Modularz and her own label Grey Report, Adriana Lopez is a noticeably welcome edition as she delivers a stripped down take on the title track. ‘Thought Patterns’ gets another deep interpretation from The Plant Worker on the flip, who’s recent works haven’t gone un-noticed.
