Traditionally, Darko Esser's outings as Tripeo have tended towards the hypnotic and trance inducing. It's notable, then, that his latest EP - the first Tripeo 12-inch for 18 months - mixes things up a little. "Food For Thought", for example, fixes melancholic, Convextion style musicality to crunchy, EBM-influenced techno drums, while the fuzzy, dirt-encrusted "Resist" sees the producer give deep electro an angular, lo-fi makeover. "Tuesday Blues", meanwhile, sees him stack layer upon layer of positive electronic melodies atop rubbery, Afro-house influenced techno drums before Bassiani/Horoom resident HVL rounds things off with his skittish, breakbeat-powered revision of "Food For Thought", which sounds like a giddy blast from the past despite the poignant nature of Esser's melodies.

Tripeo raises a voice for change on his new album “Green Is the New Red“ (BASLP03). “The great thing about (electronic) music is that it’s the most universal art form there is“, says the Dutch producer. “It transcends lingual and cultural barriers more than any other cultural expression and can be a catalyst for change.“ The sound of the coming revolution is manifold: Starting off with A1 “Hope in the Dark“, a soft melody unfolds. B2 “Shifting the Overtone Window“ stands out as the most bass-heavy track, with techno as its musical blueprint. Further into the album, C3 “Fridays For Future“, the artist openly states his sympathy with the global youth movement. His vision for the protest is lo-fi in sound and courageous in mood. Never angry, this album creates urgency without uttering a word.

Wolfskuil founder Tripeo aka Darko Esser presents four esoteric cuts titled ‘Synergy EP’ on Rekids, including collaborations with Doka (as The Leap) and Clone Basement’s Cadans. As Darko Esser the Dutch DJ, producer and label owner has been active for over two decades, helming his illustrious Wolfskuil Records label, which has recently hosted records from Shlømo, Cadans and Rumah. Following a series of releases on his eponymously titled Tripeo imprint, Esser’s appearance on Rekids is his 2018 debut and marks his first outing on another label in nearly five years. Alongside fellow Dutch producer Cadans, who has releases on Neighbourhood and Clone (when not producer drum and bass as Icicle), ‘Rave Tune’ kicks off in emphatic style, delivering alluringly bright strings and oscillating bass slabs. Esser then pairs up with Doka as The Leap, producing alarming synth swirls and thudding percussion for an energy filled spectacle titled ‘Idiocracy’. On the flip, Tripeo balances otherworldly chords with slick drum design in ‘Need For Nuance’ before concluding with ‘Zeitgeist’ with its electro styled groove layered with glistening melodies, eccentric sonics and heavenly leads throughout.

Following the success of the ‘Anipintiros Reworks’, which was a remix double EP of Tripeo’s ‘Antipintiros’ album featuring the likes of Mike Parker, James Ruskin, Blawan, Ben Sims, Cadans and Exium – Tripeo now returns with Sixth Trip. Each side of the release feature different moods yet both equally suited for past the midnight hour. On side A, the track opens straight into full throttle. A thumping techno track with elevating high-hats and deep tones that will punish any dance floor. Side B sets the scene for a battle across the supernovas, with a hypnotic over-drive and galloping notes, enveloping the listener into a mesmerizing state.

For the new Basement Series we have Darko Esser in his Tripeo guise. Classic techno tracks carefully crafted for use in our favorite basements and sweaty clubs. It starts of with Kuebiko, a long drawn-out cut led by a trippy arpeggiated melody matched by a deep pulsating bass. Next is Nargy, an almost completely stripped to the barebones track that draws it energy from an undulating and relentless bassline. This one just keeps on going and going and going... As closer the quirky Qwerty where crisp hi-hats and snares set the pace over a modulating ”Hoodesque” melody that floats in and out of the track.

Following up ARC#'s excellent album is a new series of 12"s from Deep Sound Channel. DSC proudly introduces the pioneering Darko Esser, under his Tripeo moniker to set these series in motion. Tripeo gouges out chasms of bass for "Ugani". Industrial murmurs are supplanted by earthy rhythm patterns. The ever pervasive clank of the machine is never far away, coils and circuitboards creeping over organic growth to choke and overcome. Insular dub spirals into "Opuvar". Oscillators bend and bulge, waiting for Tripeo to inject ever more voltage. But the temperature is tapered, hi-hats bolstering intensity for a work of cerebral and contained Techno. Fit for the armchair and subterranean dancefloor, dark and deep from the hands of Tripeo. Comes in special designed artwork, vinyl only.

Since Héctor Oaks’ debut album “As We Were Saying” came out on Bassiani as BASLP01 almost 2 years ago, his career has gotten quite some traction. Time to celebrate one of our first international residents with BASRMX01. On his new EP he invites like-minded techno figures to remix tracks and bring in a new twist to his take on contemporary dance music. If this was a lineup, you’d definitely want to show up to the party. DJ Stingray and Somewhen kick-off the record with understated yet confident remixes. Voiski uses a beautiful and raw melody, elevating the original to even higher realms of potential dance floor ecstasy. Parrish Smith’s remix of “Afterall, She Had No Reason To Stay” pushes through with a fast beat and a pinch of darkness. Tribal drums and a luring melody complement the end of the release with “Horoom Reclusion” in a remix by Zesknel.

Kancheli - Japanese Morning (Volruptus Remix)
“Get ready to get into the “earthshaketrance”. With his background in jazz music, Kancheli shows a finely attuned feel for rhythm. Trance leaning tunes on the A side tickle your dancing soles, making them peak time material. Playing with emotive evocations of hope, this is music to transcend to. The B side strikes a darker chord, with Kancheli using acid synths and combining them with vocals reminiscent of wave. The release finishes on a remix by Volruptus. All in all, the well-crafted first solo release of a dance floor favourite.”

The Empire Line unleash their demons on BAS009. When Jonas Rönnberg (aka Varg), Christian Stadsgaard (part of the Danish duo Damien Dubrovnik, co-founder of Posh Isolation) and noise artist Isak Hansen combine their musical vision, the result is sure to be radical. Claiming that „the nature of your oppression is the aesthetic of our anger“ right away in the title, the four-track EP sounds like it was recorded straight from a sweaty basement. Combining cascading rave tropes with noise, anger and punk, this release merges different underground currents. The result is a flamboyant, nevertheless harsh sound collage.

The Bassiani label is the platform for the infamous Georgian club to present its sound to the wider world, and it does so in fantastic fashion with this run of various artist releases. This fourth release kicks off with the dark, textured and brilliantly rendered techno immersion of Cassegrain's "Departure Seven", while Ersatz Olfolks gets a little more heated with the strafing synth work that courses out of "Straight Road". Hector Oaks is also in a rowdy frame of mind with the peak time belter "Move In Circles, Walk On Lines", and it's down to Thomas Hessler to cool things off with the heart-rending electro of "Memories".
