Short Info
Everything has its right moment in space and time. And Rhode & Brown’s debut album “Everything in Motion” is no exception to this rule.

But first things first:
Hailing from Munich, Germany, Friedrich Trede and Stephan Braun are the DJ and producer duo Rhode & Brown. Growing up in two neighbouring villages near Munich both of them had been music enthusiasts since their early childhood. Friedrich played drums in punk bands at school and recorded rap songs in his bedroom, while Stephan, as childhood friend of Harold Faltermeyer's son, had the chance to experiment in the impressive studio of the legendary Donna Summer producer in his early teens.

By the late 2000s older friends started supplying them with DJ mixtapes and helped them sneak into clubs they weren’t allowed to visit, yet – cultivating their love for electronic music and club culture. And, of course, the Internet was their go-to source for finding the latest blog house tunes back then, too.

It wasn’t until October 2009 that their paths would cross for the very first (but almost last) time when introduced by a mutual friend: Back then Stephan was selling his old CDJ-player and Friedrich, who wanted to hone his DJ skills, ended up buying it: „When I got home and unpacked the player I realized that it was the wrong model. I thought Stephan was trying to rip me off - so I called him in a rage and demanded my money back.“ Friedrich laughs. To cut a long story short, the two met again the same evening, money and CD-players were exchanged, but luckily so was their passion for house and disco music. It was at that very moment that Rhode & Brown was born.

A lot has happened since the two played their first gigs together and made baby steps in music production. In the past 10 years they established themselves as one of the most reliable house producers around with rock solid releases on Toy Tonics, Shall Not Fade, Public Possession or their own Slam City Jams imprint. As well as becoming a household name in the DJ world, sharing the booth with the likes of Palms Trax, Dam Swindle, Jamie Tiller or Octo Octa - spreading their infectious "Dancing Deejays" vibes around the globe.

Following the great reception of last years „Aku Aku“ EP, June 2021 will see the release of Rhode & Brown’s debut album on Permanent Vacation. A record that showcases their open minded approach to making music and a passion for the nuances between genres - „We found inspiration for this album in all corners of our record collection. That means we are as much influenced by disco or 80s synth-pop as by house and techno of the last decades or the latest viral trap hit on Spotify“, the guys say.

On "Everything In Motion" you'll hear piano house / Italo disco hybrids alongside dreamy Balearic soundscapes and '90s-infused acid breakbeats flawlessly accompanying '80s synth pop anthems. Always infused with that signature Rhode & Brown magic. The album also finds them collaborating with some of the finest vocalists of the moment: Peaking Lights' own Indra Dunis is lending her voice to the title track for this special laid back California vibe, while Berlin's hottest export DJ City evokes a neon light romance affair on "Memory Palace", with a longing poem that makes you wander the rainy streets at night with your walkman on.

At a time when suddenly everything seems to be standing still, Rhode & Brown undeterred moving forward... true to their LP’s title.

The guys play gigs from London, over Paris and Berlin up to Moscow and spread their “Dancing Deejays” vibes around the globe. Both their productions and DJ sets are as fun, energetic and surprising as they can get and represent their love for all kind of music, even across the borders of house and techno.

Rhode & Brown are back on their home label Toy Tonics where they have been almost from day one and released several EPs. The last one: “Mary’s Tool” in 2017.
This new record contains their first vocal feature ever. A brilliant house tune with vocals by german soul singer Adriano Prestel. On the A-Side they show their love for classic NY house vibes. Sax and pianos all over! All tracks basically made on the MPC and their Juno 106. On the flip you’ll find a full-on disco banger, backed with a beautiful understated sample house tune!

Since the boys cutted short their day jobs they finally started spending more time in the studio and are more creative than ever. In fact it's not long ago that they also released an EP on Swedish finest Honey Butter Records and their own label Slam City Jams.

The dudes have strong ties to Toy Tonics! Not only because one of them (Friedrich) had been working at the the label’s office for a certain time, but also because they are regular main acts on the now currently happening TOY TONICS JAMS around Europe. Where, along with Kapote, COEO and other TT artists they show their wide range of DJ skills and knowledge of dance music culture. Not being limited to house music, but going from early 70s funk and 80s underground wave stuff to the finest house sound from the 90s till now. The guys from Germany have a thing for collecting records from all around the world and make nice edits, too (be sure to check their tracks on the Toy Tonics edit series on BANDCAMP).

These boys are on fire and it looks like this new EP is only the start of a new wave of Rhode & Brown

Rhode & Brown are back on their motherlabel Toy Tonics! After last year's breakbeat - tune "St Hippolyte" and getting remixed by their buddies Hodini and Glenn Astro, their new EP takes their sound further again. From DIY-disco to dreamy house, whatever you like to call it.. the tracks have this joyful touch, that makes their sound so special.
This time their production way was a little bit different: While spending holidays on the marvellous island of Zanzibar they produced the raw versions of this EP. They set up their studio at a beach cabanne. With a monkey becoming their muse. They monkey came over every day to listen to their sounds. They became friends and called the monkey Rosie and fed her with mangos.
When back in Europe the Munich boys still were in a "balearic mood". So they went to a house deep in the south of France to finish the music. The result were 4 tracks. Three for this EP. And one track that they gave to the other Munich based label Public Possession for their recent SERIE A compilation. Which makes totally sense: Public Possession and Toy Tonics both have links to Gomma records. It's all a family thing. Where Great Munich vibes incoming!

Toy Tonics' main men Rhode & Brown come back with a new EP full of their very special, funk influenced, analogue sounding dance tracks. The two guys are part of that new, growing German scene of producers that are interested in the more jazz and analogue orientated and weird side of house music. As their label Toy Tonics is. Rhode & Brown's new Snabsnus EP shows a great range of their musical inspirations: funky acid basslines, hazy breakbeats, rare soul-samples - and this very special nasty atmosphere that is becoming their trademark sound.

Rhode & Brown have made this new EP in a little house in L'estrechure - in the south of France. You can feel the chilled vibe of the Provence here. It got that positive, soulful atmosphere.
Fun fact: When the boys met in 2010 they were selling each other electronic equipment. There was a mistake and they started to fight. While fighting they realised they have the same musical interests, style ideas and passions. And here we are in 2016: They released 3 EPs on Toy Tonics + tracks on Let's Play House, Needwant, Rose Records from Leipzig. And soon they will start their own label Slam City Jams.

Yes, 2016 is a good year for Friedrich Trede and Stephan Braun aka Rhode & Brown: They are part of that new Munich crew around Charlie Club, Toy Tonics, Public Possession. All people that are obsessed with obscure vinyl, analogue equipment and experimenting with different unusual forms of House music and electronic Funk. These different forms of FunkHouse music are exploding everywhere right now: In Berlin with the The Money Sex crew, in Sweden Studio Barnhus or Australia with the guys from Voyage records. All connected - all in the similar vibe.

Berlin Techno was the big thing over the last years, but you might know that in German cites like Hamburg and Munich there is a huge growing experimental House scene. Hamburg's Diynamic records crew or Munich artists such as Sascha Sibler (Innervisions) or Cocolores (Exploited) are equally well respected as the big names from Berlin. One of the fresh new labels is Toy Tonics from Munich and the raising stars of the labels are Rhode & Brown. The kids are residents at Munich super club KONG. Apart of their 2 Eps on Toy Tonics they also released on Let's Play House and Needwant. Their sound is fresh. Influenced by early New York records but still with a quite futuristic, upfront touch.

After brilliant releases on imprints like Wolf Music or Coastal Haze and recently getting remixed
by the Italo-House legend Don Carlos, we are happy to have the duo on the label with their
„Down 2 Dance“ EP. Originally from New Zealand but now living in London, Manuel Darquart
bless us with a record full of balearic bliss, backed with a dope remix by Tech Support.
We are kicking things off with the title track, a deep, yet uplifting Italo-House tune: „Down 2
Dance“ is full of sweet chords, perfectly cheesy sax stabs and this catchy vocal cuts we just
can’t get out of our head. On „Cultivating Yucca“ Manuel Darquart maintains the Italian vibe but
gets even more balearic with warm pads, some muted trumpets and of course: The slight
sound of the ocean.
On the flip things get interesting with „Prince Of The Rinse“: Distorted 808s paired with a funky
lead that builds up steadily and finally dissolves into a wonderful synth solo. A tune that
reminds of the early Funkineven on Apron Records. To round this record off, we invited
Londons finest Tech Support to give the title track his remix treatment: He added his signature
80s sound to the original and perfecftly stripped back the tune to its essentials, with gated
snare drums and little synth blips. What more can you ask for?! More

We are happy to welcome UK-based producer Native Cruise on Slam City Jams. The
guy was on our radar since his releases on No Bad Days and Fruit Merchant that easily
combined house music with new-age synths, a wave/EBM touch and balearic sounds.
His „Human Nature“ EP is no exception with five outstanding tracks that differ in tempo
and vibe.
The opener „Crew Talk“ is a percussion heavy tune with lots of cowbells, a funky DX7
bass line, deep pads and dramatic chords that build up and up towards the end.
„Elsewhere" is the most housey track on this record, with four-to-the-floor 808s and
bittersweet strings that burst out into euphoria. Closing down the A-side is „Fooled
Again“, a balearic cut that feels like a day in the sun with it's little synth blips and arps.
On the flip we find the title track „Human Nature“ that might be the hidden jam on this
EP. Hard hitting Linn Drums, digital synth bells and those haunting vocals we can’t get
out of our heads. Finally we have „Not Long Now“ a perfectly atmospheric deep tune,

Slam City Jams is back with its sixth release and welcomes a new face to the label: the
mysterious producer, Westcoast Goddess, with his „Soul Out Of Time” EP.
After releases on Shanti Celeste’s Peach Discs (under his Videopath moniker) and Canada
based Heart To Heart Records, this guy caught our attention with his amazing analog take
on house music.
Written and produced between 2002 and 2018, this record contains everything house music
heads could wish for:
Sweet chords and strings, topped with heavy 909s, plus a cheeky little vocal shot on
„Satisfaction & Clarity”. Title track „Soul Out Of Time” sounds like a late night drive with the
top down. Meaning - shiny bells, swinging 80s drums, a funked up bass line and Balearic
breaks. The B-side kicks things off with “Open Heart”. A sample-based house tune, heavy on
the low end and super sweet on the tops, with Rhode pianos and catchy guitar licks. The EP
comes to an end with „In Search Of Darryl P”: A perfect track for the late hours, when those
trancey synths and euphoric strings go on and on... till the first rays of dawn! More

Slam City Jams are back with their first compilation. A 4-tracker packed up with
five amazing artists from all over the globe. And let’s face it: It’s a breaky affair!
Starting off with our Munich homeboys from COEO. Known for their funked up
house tunes on Toy Tonics, they start into complete new realms this time. ‚Never
Going Home‘ is the perfect example of a dope broken beat electro tune, that with
it’s weird synth line & smooth breakdown never failed on a gig in the last months.
On A2 the man Doppelate from London (Let’s Go Swimming Rec.) exactly hits the
spot with mezmerizing synths, tight drum programming and a crunchy acid
bassline on ‚Four Feet Up The Stairs‘.
The flip side starts off with label head honchos Rhode & Brown, who teamed up
with their buddy Leo Woelfel from Austria, both known for releases on Toy
Tonics, Public Possession or Let’s Play House. Here the name ‚More Drama (Less
Hysteria)’ says it all: Pure drama on this breaky acid tune!
To round up this great package we’ve got Marco Lazovic from Moscow on B2. He
digs deep ‚In The Jungle’ with rolling 707 drums, dreamy synths and this tropical
atmosphere we can’t get enough of. More

Slam City Jams is back with it’s second release, produced by young Brussel based artist Kassett. This multi-talented dude not only makes great music, but also does visual arts (look at that amazing fanzine coming with the record) and has his own label & artist collective called Midlife. Kassett aka Gavin Vanælst isn’t about genres, but about emotions when it comes to
his music. However, asking him what he would call the sound he makes, his simple answer is: „Rave Ambient“.
The 'All I Feel 1 Million EP‘ is a record full of diversity. It reaches from emotional and dreamy, arp-based ambient tracks with rave and trance references, to broken beats, weird synth solos, up to a rough but melodious techno tune. Finally the cherry on top of this special EP, is a remix by Lobster Theremin regular Imre Kiss. He delivered a dark and dubby version of the A2, that sounds like it was recorded underwater. More

Vinyl Only. Newborn Munich based label Slam City Jams comes around the corner with its first release from young gun Gonima straight outta Montreal, Canada.
His Grids EP? An exciting mixture of swinging distorted drums, catchy melodies and hazy atmospheres. You can definitely spot Gonima's passion for DX7 adventures, analog drums and tape hiss right here. Opener "Grids" starts off with lush synth blips, 707 drums and a bassline Bootsy Collins would give high-fives for. "Subdivided" is one of these tracks that shows you that it doesn’t need more than a few elements to get you going: A rough kick drum, cowbells and a smooth pad that gets slapped by just one bass note. The last original on B2 is the ambient-like "Organ Tutorials", which shifts your mind directly to outer space. And as if all this wasn't enough, someone really special did a great remix job – Khotin from 1080p fame, who gave the A2 cut a treat with his unique trademark sound. Four house and ambient tracks both for the floor and the couch. Or as Gonima puts it: "An EP that has the sound of visiting home in the winter and rediscovering environments frequented in the past, birthing previously obscured memories. The sounds within are a ritual dance to stay warm through the procession of the seasons"
