bodj - Trip To Planet Love
Visionquest return to their Special Edition vinyl-only series and welcome a new friend to the family: Greek craftsman BODJ. Following a remarkable run of releases on the likes of his own Audiorama and Memoria earlier this year, the Athens-based DJ continues his vein of form with these four wide-ranging tracks... ‘Parusha’ takes the lead with warm tones and textures. Airy pads and an insatiable Chicago-like bump to the voluptuous bassline ensure this grabs full attention the moment it enters the mix. It’s backed by three other vital cuts that express BODJ’s true breadth and vision: ‘Miaplacidus’ celebrates one of the brightest stars in the night sky with a stripped back, sub heavy hypnotic groove, ‘Phantom’ kicks with timeless house dynamics that subtly evolve, twist, turn and fold into each other over its eight minute journey before we end with the wonderfully titled ‘Trip To Planet Love’. Once again showing BODJ’s scope and stylistic flexibility, it closes the show with a hip-wriggling electro twist. Slinky breakbeats, bubbling bass and a space-age feel; it’s every bit as cosmic and full of love as its title suggests. A perfect way to end another perfect Visionquest trip. Happy travels...

A. Irish Burnout B. Rigel
Its already been a couple of years since the debut release by BODJ on Claap. This young talent has not let the time pass in stagnant waters. On the contrary BODJ has been very concentrated with studio work as well as his dj residency holding the Audiorama nights at the infamous sixdogs club in Athens. The results are two stunning productions evident of the way BODJ's sound has matured and evolved to the right direction. His second solo EP on Claap titled "Irish burnout" features two very well crafted club tracks. Produced for the late hours, this EP sits right on the boundaries bewteen house and techno. Each track follows a moody sonic path reminicent of the dub side of techno, while at the same time the tempo is set to give each element plenty of space to develop within the arrangement. Two tracks carrying the right hypnotic to pump ratio! Making this record functional from the warm up to the closing set! This EP is set take a spot in plenty of record bags out there! All we can here at ClaapHQ is that we did warn you!

BODJ, - Every Day
Coming up on Claap we welcome a new name on the label. BODJ is an upcoming producer from Athens (GR). A fresh face in the scene, BODJ has already had a couple of releases under his belt and caused some serious heat with his "Blisters EP" back in 2010!! "Every Day" is an easy and very classy house cut. Quite emotive with flowing rhythm patterns, it is an ode to every day lovin! On the remix duties, These Days afficionado and man of the moment Argy takes the track into a sweatier territory with his NYC dub mix. While, the love mix explores a more romantic side of the original track. Label head GummiHz rounds up the package with a bubbly night fever mix. A filtered disco house take, reminiscent of french house in the late 90s. Top tip!!

Dj W!LD and Shaun Reeves - Purple Urkle
Late September 2019 will see the release of DJ W!LD Shaun Reeves' collaborative EP, "Bag of Bones" on Vision Quest Special Edition, the vinyl only arm of Visionquest.
No strangers to working together, the pair have cooked up an excellent EP for their latest outing, comprised of 4 heady, floor ready cuts. On the first track, "Bag of Bones", the EP starts out with a banging kick, a choppy percussion loop, floating atmospherics and a sound like a distant train or a car horn honking moments before impact. Low sub bass is complimented by a mid range bass line that drives the track forward. This leads to a subtle break down, when the track flips on it's head and jumps back in with a rising rush, a new bassline, peculiar vocal snippets and some bouncing hi hats skittering side to side. Track two, "Taima", starts with a heavily phased sample that almost sounds like recorded room noise. Swinging percussion pops in with a punchy bass line and a mean kick that all gets thrown around by a mechanical machine sound that rips in and out with bleeps that sound like feedback from some sort of lunar device. A repeated, bleepy key loop emerges, balancing all the percussion and propels the track forward. It's hypnotic, deep and banging all at the same time. "Chronicals of Narnia" starts with a big kick and a hat, snare/clap combo that's drenched in vinyl dirt and phase. A beautiful ambient texture pad drops in that lifts the vibe of the track without it getting bogged down or muddled by the atmospherics, only to snap back into the original tough beat with a fat pocket. The EP finishes with "Purple Urkle", which starts with tough percussion, again doused in this amazingly overdriven phased/flanged texture. Other seemingly found sounds jolt in and out all around the audio spectrum while a distant pad rides in the background, sounding like it might be sampled from an old classical vinyl. The EP is another welcome addition to VQSE, drenched in its own grit and unique sound it's sure to please listeners and dancers from all ends of the musical spectrum. More

luc ringeisen - Trip Trap
Special delivery: VisionQuest embark on their first vinyl-only Special Edition trip of the year with one of techno’s most enigmatic and revered composers Luc Ringeisen. If you know your Ibiza history, you’ll know all about this talented Frenchman. Vinyl Club founder, resident at Space and a regular fixture at Circoloco, his distinctive deep, fluid groove signature has appeared on the respected likes of Amaniel, Darkroom Dubs, Safari Electronique… And now Vision Quest with this breath-taking label debut. ‘Utopie’ lives up to its name. A mystic measured 11-minute sojourn into a blissful state, it’s layered with a powerful series of twists and cosmic mutations that trigger intense vibrancy and surprise before flickering away just as quickly. ‘Same But Different’ follows with a molten rhythmic flow. A much more direct piece of peak time pie, it flares with a physical, frictionless technoid funk that disarms, mesmerises and sets us up nicely for the most mind altering finale. The clue is in the title; ‘Trip Trap’ is a psychedelic reverie where the metallic hook melts and trickles into the spaces between the kicks and oscillators are uncaged and encouraged to roam freely. Three remarkable jams from one seriously consistent craftsman who knows exactly where the heart of a track is and brings it to life with subtlety and total hypnosis. We said it was special.

jarau - Hypnotize
ulien Sandre and Mennie return under their Jarau guise this January with the ‘Saturn System’ EP, set for release via Visionquest’s Special Edition sub-label. Now returning for their second EP under this new guise the pair join the roster of Visionquest Special Edition with ‘Saturn System’ and taking the lead is ‘Le Voyage’, a snaking journey through billowing synth swells, jangling percussive chimes and organic drums before ‘Dubhe’ strips the vibe back to modulating resonant synths, shuffled stripped-back rhythms and lumpy sub bass tones. ‘Adrienne’ opens the flip side with the focus on a swinging drum groove as airy atmospherics ebb and flow throughout. ‘Hypnotize’ then rounds out the package and as the name would suggest relies on subtle nuances to draw you deeper and deeper into the intricately programmed percussion and smoothly blooming synth flourishes.

Visionquest’s Special Editions series returns this July with RILLS’ ‘You’ll Never Be Alone’, comprising four originals from the Italian artist. Turin’s RILLS has been steadily gaining a strong following over the decade with his tracks being played the likes of Ar:Pi:Ar’s Raresh, Daniel Bell, Dyed Soundorom and Cassy, and finding a home on imprints such as 8Bit, In Haus Wax and Esperanza. Here we see RILLS join the roster of Visionquest’s vinyl only offshoot label, Special Editions, following material from Jorge Savoretti, Konrad Black and Quilla. ‘Zorlak’ opens the package and sets the tone of raw and dubby via murky atmospherics, swirling chord sequences and a swinging rhythmic drive, ‘Yoda’ follows and retains a similarly swung drum groove whilst introducing spaced out, unfolding pads across the composition. ‘Stranger Freaks’ kicks off the B-Side of the release, stripping things back to bumpy drums, heady resonant synth swells and hypnotic tension buildings drones before ‘Paper Beatz’ rounds out the package with smooth deep pads, modulating synth stabs and shuffling hats.
RILLS’ ‘You’ll Never Be Alone’ is out on Visionquest Special Editions 7th July 2017. More

Next up is Visionquest’s Ryan Crosson hot on the heels of the recent, Sweatshop Boys release on Leftroom, Ryan delivers the mesmerizing, hallucinatory, tropical infused ‘Panama’. Hot on the heels of the first release on Visionquest Special Editions is the second part of Quilla’s ‘Beautiful Hybrid’ Remix Project. ‘Part Two’ features Matthew Herbert, Ryan Crosson & Terje Bakke’s takes’ on tracks from Quilla’s forthcoming debut album ‘Beautiful Hybrid’ which will be released later this year on Ritual Fire Records. Featured here are four diverse and innovative remixes of the original tracks. Matthew Herbert produces an off-kilter, shape-shifting sonic colossus of a remix of ‘Biological Clock’ that is truly inspiring. Also featured is Herbert’s Instrumental version of his remix that is equally as stupendous. On the flip and Visionquest member Ryan Crosson delivers a mix of two halves: the heady, hypnotic percussive take on ‘We All Have Shadow’ transmogrifies halfway through as the razor sharp acid dissects the rhythm with rapier accuracy and jacks the groove! Finally Terje Bakke, takes the tempo down with his Dub Attempt of ‘Labyrinth’, steeped in creaky atmospheric resonance this is great interpretation. This is the second of three remix projects with Quilla that will be released on Visionquest Special Editions this year. Please note these will be vinyl only and a limited pressing. The third part of the remix project will feature remixes from Agoria & Wareika.
