Now in its fifth edition, the series continues to raise the bar. The A-Side features two mixes of the mid-nineties Mood II Swing production ‘Living In Ecstasy’ by Fonda Rae. The R&B singer who was responsible for cult hits like ‘Touch Me’ delivers silky-smooth vocals that remain the focus in the opening Groove Mix, whereas JC’s Ecstasy Dub follows up with a rumbling bassline to deliver a club-focussed version. Soulstatejazz, under the leadership of the multi-talented Tom Ellis, unveils their latest auditory adventure, “SOL 3”, released on Chapelle XIV. This double LP vinyl is a symphonic journey, demonstrating a matured finesse in blending jazz, electronic, and house music. Recorded in the creative hubs of Mark Hand’s studio in Hartlepool and the Malt Barn studio in Wales, “SOL 3” is an embodiment of musical innovation and collaborative spirit.

Tom Ellis, showcasing his virtuosic skills, handles drums, percussion, bass, guitar, piano, and synths, setting a dynamic foundation for the album. Classics Volume 2 kicks off with a slice of Defected 2012 goodness; ‘Around (Solomun Vox)’ by Noir & Haze. When Solomun took his turn at remixing this Ibiza anthem, it was heard everywhere from Hackney warehouses to Pacha Ibiza, and showed a different side to the heavier original. On the B-Side is the Moodymann Edit, where he makes subtle changes to Solomun’s mix by interweaving tribal drums and stripping back some of the techier elements, followed by Chicken Lips’ electro banger ‘He Not In’ which thunders through. An instantly recognisable record, even if they’re not aware of its name or who wrote it, with an unmistakable bassline that has truly stood the test of time. More
