Tracklist:
A1) Woo York - Samum
A2) Woo York - Prophet
B1) Woo York - Samum (8Kays Remix)
B2) Woo York - Samum (Echonomist Remix)
Release Info:
Woo York - supreme electronic music duo make their debut on Watergate Records.
The Ukrainian duo have a watertight reputation for crafting stunning dancefloor compositions, having
released music on Life And Death, Soma, Dystopian, Drumcode and Afterlife, the latter home to their
critically acclaimed 2018 album ‘Chasing the Dream’. Their appearances at Watergate have been numerous
over the years, making them an obvious choice to join the label family.
Their Watergate Records debut maiden offering is sparkling. The title track begins as a chugging key-laden
cut before a stirring folky melody rises to the fore with beautiful intent. With its unique sonic signature,
‘Samum’ will stand out in any set. Woo York show a new side of their outstanding musical talent “For this
release we wanted to push boundaries of the melodic techno sound. For Samum we have worked with a
bag pipe, one of the oldest instruments to give the track an almost „housy" note.”
The accompanier is ‘Prophet’, an emotional slice of dance music, hopeful and melancholic in equal doses,
this is custom made for big dancefloor moments.
Accompanying the package are remixes of ‘Samum’ by fellow Ukrainian producer and live act 8Kays, who
turns in a dark and shimmering re-rub, not losing any of the original’s power. Meanwhile Greek artist
Echonomist crafts a rich and multi-faceted reinterpretation that fits for the club and home listening alike.

woo york - Distance
With its first release of the new year, Life and Death is proud to introduce the newest members of its formidable and tight knit family, Woo York. Hailing from the Ukraine, this hard working duo has been successfully making the transition from local heroes to major international players through their crafting of strong, emotive techno accompanied by a live show notable for its improvisational streak, allowing the guys to stay true to the spirit of the songs while still adapting them to whatever setting they find themselves presented with. For their debut appearance on Life and Death, they show an impressive range as they move from one mood to the next while always retaining their cohesive sound. From the beautiful opening salvo of Valley of the Songs to the forward march of Odyssey to the unrelenting battle cry of Black Soul and then back to the triumphant finale of Distance, Woo York cover all the bases here, taking the listener on a trip that feels complete from start to finish. It's an impressive beginning for their debut on Life and Death and we can surely expect much more from this forward thinking pair in the years to come

Ukrainian duo Woo York debut on Soma with the first in a two part series entitled Ancient Light. Denis & Andrew have been regulars on the underground scene in Kiev for many years now and with a live act armed with drum machine, samplers & groove boxes they bring their experience direct to the dance floor. This EP explores the deeper side of hypnotic techno. Ancient Light opens the EP with deep and powerful rhythms. Haunting synths float atop a bed of rolling analogue sub bass and a driving kick drum. Woo York create a perfect DJ tool with this as the track seamlessly flows powered by a real analogue sound. Solar Diet ties in perfectly as yet more dystopian rhythms seep out the track. Crisp and snappy percussion back a dark and pulsing low end while a trippy synth hook flickers in and out keeping the one of this track firmly in the deep end.
Woo York have crafted two fine techno tools doused with their signature deep and hypnotic sound, perfect for any DJ set. More

INFO:
Feeling the deep and the hi simultaneously. Not craving for the extreme - finding balance instead. Indifference.
The word reflects what I often felt in recent times. Not just a feeling but a desire for things less pointed. It seems to be a general zeitgeist phenomenon but as I am part of the electronic music scene, I reflect a lot
about what is happening within this genre. There has been an urge for the either really hard, driving, fast and aggressive, or the extreme opposite.
Catchy vocals with a pop music feel, very direct and relatable melodies, soft grooves, piano chords. Either way - it feels like it has to be very distinctive - aggressive or soft - as long as it is extreme. It seems to be a moment in time where in whatever you do - it HAS to be in the face. All of this is fine of course - but never was my nature or personality. There is a reason why I chose to the adjective "Recondite" as an artist name because I could identify with the meaning of it. "hidden, obscure, not in the obvious”.
“Indifferent” is opposing this Zeitgeist and is representing driving techno with minimalistic melodic atmospheres, deep, haunting vibes, reserved yet strong and decisive within its own language, floating between melancholic desperation and hopefulness - music that lives right in between the hard and the soft... the aggressive and the neat... not black or white.
Not separated but INDIFFERENT.

SHORT INFO:
Recondite returns to his Plangent label in January 2022 with a hugely personal seventh studio album,
Taum.
The tracks were written between his Berlin home and the Lower Bavaria hinterland of his youth. In
capturing the array of emotions, he was feeling during the pandemic and mixing up both pastoral and
urban influences, the album is his most diverse to date. It takes in classic Recondite tracks that are deep,
melodic and meditative as well more edgy, darker beats inspired by his lifelong love of hip hop, grime and
trap.
With Taum, Recondite takes his signature sounds further than ever before. More

Recondite has announced his fifth album, Daemmerlicht , due out in February on his own Plangent Records. Translated as "fading light," the new album finds the Bavarian musician exploring novel territory, combining his love of instrumental hip hop and downbeat with ambient and classical music.
The result is Recondite's most focused, meditative work yet. From the haunting soundscapes of "Lichtung," to the cinematic beauty of closing track "Immer Da," the album demonstrates a new level of sophistication to Lorenz Brunner's venerated catalogue of work. Making conscious use of atmosphere and space, the album ultimately harkens to Brunner's unique upbringing in Lower Bavaria. More

Since day one, Alex.Do accompanied the evolution of Plangent Records. He gave his opinion and feedback on the first tracks and was actually living in the same flat as Recondite when the label was founded back in 2010. It feels only natural that Alex is nailing the plangent mood with excellence on his first appearance on the label by delivering 4 sensitive, gentle, deep and mysterious tracks.

Deep moody emotive techno tracks on Recondite's own Plangent label. Recondite goes back to its roots with this release with deep lush tracks that are not just aiming at the dancefloor, and just like with first 4 releases on the label no repress on this title! Uchi delivering 3 conceptual and personal tracks that were made over the past 2 and a half years. Luna (January 2016), was named after a talking cat. It's kind of a sad story. You will find some synth sounds, three different kick drums, and a couple hi-hats. It's kind of moody. You can take it as it is, or not. Pride is Poison (July 2014) ironically, it's titled after experiencing dosages of unhealthy relationships, though it might be the one people like the most. It's sad-ish, noisy, bouncie, and bassie? That about sums it up. INC (February 2016) is titled after the International Noise Conference, where it was recorded. Actually it's a 3 part spliced zoom room recording of a 25min long improvisation, made in a punk bar. The argument here holds; Is it really worth it to make perfect music? Where is the concept of ''live'' in techno anyways? It doesn't matter. It's just a semi-distorted recording of a moment that meant nothing to almost no one, and yet it lives. Plangent is digging deeper!
