Given that he's always approached life with a cheery gusto, there's something rather ironic about Tim 'Love' Lee being involved in making a track called "Living Is Serious Business". Happily, he has man-of-the-moment Aaron 'Fit' Siegel by his side. The duo's original version is something of a trippy, late-night treat, with dubbed-out keys and percussive flourishes riding a dark Detroit bassline and fizzing, Motor City techno groove. It sounds like something that the brothers Fett would release on Sex Tags Mania, which is definitely a bonus in our book. Carl Craig does a sterling job on his flipside remix, retaining some of the original's eccentricity while adding a sweet melodiousness and production polish all of his own. More

Subtle, low-key and thumping, the title track revolves around a bittersweet piano lead, elegiac 303 and Blade Runner string swells. It's a high-tech driving song in the tradition of Model 500's low-key classic "Pick Up The Flow" and FIT sounds more assured than ever. "First Found" is Mills-ian jigsaw puzzle techno imbued with breathy and addictive humanity. Stacatto, free-jazz informed piano solos lock into ping-pong synths -- eventually, a female vocal emerges over a bed of arpeggiated bass. Loose yet robotic, "First Found" is first-rate Detroit techno mysticism. The record as a whole is a worthy entry into the Motor City's storied canon from a leader of the new school. More

For his follow up to certified underground hits “Tonite” and "Enter the Fog”, Fit Siegel retains a firm embrace of both melody and rhythm. Cocomo is Siegel's most delicate, and beautiful track to date. The track’s loping, memorable theme achieves the relaxed deepness of Larry Heard's productions. A hypnotic vibraphone loop is supplanted by an assured string line, stately piano and finally, a jacking snare builds Cocomo into a tropical hands-in-the-air anthemic house dreamer . A beatless version reveals the song's filmic quality - its lush and subtle synthesis will transport you to the tropics envisioned from the city. Seedbed snaps the listener back to the dancefloor with a syncopated acid earworm. A minimal 303 line foregrounds an unsettling drone before a lead knocks on the doors of the 303 passes, adding to the pleasantly maddening feel. Fit’s percussion puts Seedbed a league apart from the average acid jam. A heavily swung hi- hat is colored by a machine cowbell and watery, rhythmic samples. As tension builds, the creeping pad becomes a more defined presence, oscillating wildly as the track winds itself down. For his label’s tenth release, Fit Siegel presents two fully-realized, divergent sounds, obviously able to harness the energy of his unpredictable DJ sets in the studio. Expansive new material from Swedish polymath Jean-Louis Huhta, who has channeled decades of work with groups such as the Skull Defekts, Lucky People Center and even Anti-Cimex into the Dungeon Acid project. Rather than setting the controls to bludgeon, JL reveals a dynamic nuance on this three-tracker. Move, its purpose self-evident, begins with swinging african guitar, hand drums and an organ solo before acid and modular textures seep in. Duped is similarly elusive - on the surface, the track consists of a bobbing acid line and muffled vocal sample, but a closer listen reveals suitcase synth textures coloring the track’s murky corners. Duped ends with Huhta’s synth buildings panning from side to side, a psychedelic touch for headphones or sound system. Astro is noiser and more cosmic, but maintains the introspective bent. Move, out on Detroit’s FIT Sound, is tough and functional dance music. The acid form is stretched to contain a wealth of influence, both musical and personal. More

The O.G. mix is a version Fit started working on to be a dub version of "Tonite- Original Mix", but morphed into something a bit more epic, and due to time constraints could not make it on the initial release. The D.D. version, is based on the original demo track Fit wrote before any vocals were recorded, then edited and dubbed out by Omar-S. If you liked the original release on FXHE, be sure to have this one as well and if you don't have the original release then you better get that one too! More
