Shep Pettibone - A name that commands the greatest of respect from DJ's, diggers, dancers and music lovers across the galaxy. A name that has been emblazoned across so many club classics that the accompanying discography is simply dizzying. The underground Disco of groups like Aurra, First Choice and Candido and early 80's experimental dubbed out club cuts of cult outfits like NV, Alisha and Carol Williams and even the heady pop chart successes of bands like Level 42, The Pet Shop Boys, Jermaine Jackson and many more, have all benefitted from Pettibone's prowess behind the mixing boards. A true musical legend and the man who literally crafted the sounds and styles of almost 2 decades of club music back to back, Shep Pettibone's pedigree can never be called in to question. Salsoul Records thought a well programmed and thought out retrospective of this legends output was in order and this incredible collection of tracks is where we find ourselves. A stellar compilation across 2 heavyweight slabs of wax featuring of some of Pettibone's finest works. Included you'll find genre defining cuts like his mix of Loleatta Holloway's 'Love Sensation', Salsoul Orchestra's majestic 'Love Break' and First Choice's anthemic 'Let No Man Put Asunder' alongside other Salsoul cuts from Weeks & Co, Instant Funk, Inner life and the legendary Leroy Burgess.

2
Leroy Burgess - Heartbreaker (Moplen Remix)
Italian Disco remixer extraordinaire Moplen is back at the controls with a super sublime reworking of a wonderful and rare early 80's Leroy Burgess jam from the Salsoul vaults. 'Heartbreaker' is an underground classic, seeing Burgess back in the studio with longtime collaborator Sonny T. Davenport and Kiss FM mastermixer and producer Shep Pettibone on mixing duties. A tight and flawless early 80's production sensibility and the incredible vocal arrangements and lyrical performance of Leroy Burgess make this one a definite essential in any DJ's box. This is the real deal. If you dig that post-Disco electronic sound this one is for you, simply perfect in every way and quite tough to track down these days in its original form with copies reaching high figures on the second hand market. Needless to say, Moplen injects his own personal style into his remix and adds his unique flair creating an essential new version of this classic on the B-side. Always understanding, respectful and fresh, Moplen pumps 'Heartbreaker' in all the best ways, crafting a drum and bass heavy DJ version and new arrangement that you will be hearing for many years to come! Disco bliss. This remix and reissue is 100% supported by Leroy Burgess, who dug Moplen's new vision of this 1983 classic. Fully licensed, sanctioned and released by Above Board distribution and Salsoul Records, 2020. Accept no imitations! TRACK LISTING: A. Heartbreaker (Original Shep Pettibone 12" Mix), B. Next is Ripple’s ‘The Beat Goes On’ – a shimmering, uptempo disco cut where Dr Packer really exhibits the sound and vibe 70’s dancefloors for contemporary ears while in-house collective The Salsoul Orchestra get ‘You’re Just The Right Size’ reworked: the lush percussive beats and elegant orchestral work are brightened up and who can resist that sultry vocal hook? Salsoul opens the vaults once more to today's top editors and remixers. This incredible 12" sees those PBR Streetgang dudes take the reigns to great effect. Digging in the vaults for those lesser spotted gems, the PBR crew have tweaked up 2 absolute Tom Moulton related killers here for our enjoyment. Side A is a finely tuned, lovingly fondled version of David Christie's LP cut 'Back Fire' from 1978. A sleazy, almost Euro feeling good timer that does the biz. On the flip, is the Destroyers mammoth 'Lectric Love', another lowdown cruiser of a track, nice cosmic FX and leather vibes for the late night prowl! Both edits are brilliantly done, and with a knowing and respectful nod too, one for the heads right her

love committee - Joe Claussell Edit
Some slamming 1978 Disco HEAT from the Salsoul stable! 'Pass The Buck' is a very popular LP cut from the group's sole long player 'Law & Order', naturally any Tom Moulton mix from that period is well worth your ears and your time if you consider yourself a Disco lover, the man's hands were all over a ton of classics and he had the magic touch for real. 'Pass The Buck' has all the hallmarks of the bombastic 'Philly Sound', arranged by the legendary Ron 'Have mercy' Kersey and his team and mixed by Moulton, this blast of FUNK opens side B of said long player. Mysteriously never released as a 12", this is one TM mix that really benefits from a nice loud pressing as it is presented here on this special RSD 19 12" reissue. That's not all, throw in a super, extended, cosmically overdubbed and tweaked re-edit from NYC's master of such disciplines - Joe Claussell - and we're talking some serious business, right? Well, that's what you get on this special limited release, the full 9+ minutes of Joe's very special reinterpretation, this one's all killer and no filler. Spiritual Discofied-Funk straight outta NYC for your enjoyment! Fully licensed, sanctioned and released by Above Board distribution and Salsoul Records. Accept no imitations!

First Choice - - Let No Man Put Asunder (Walter Gibbons Disco Madness Mix)
Walter Gibbons, a true master of the mix, a disco legend, a pioneer of dance music. There's literally very few who can lay claim to progressing the artform of studio mixing and technique than the late Gibbons. His contribution to contemporary music cannot be understated, first as a DJ where his drum laced experimentation captured the ears and minds of his peers and the dancers, then later as a mixer and studio genius where he continued on his quest. Often fixated on the percussion and breaks within records his versions would often dive into spaced out, dubby and stripped back territory that very few of his peers were even contemplating at that time, fervently reconstructing the tracks themselves and often the time, space and dancefloor within which the record was being played. A true original, Gibbons was behind many of the 'definitive' versions of the classics, his unique style often catapulting records that were just fine in their original form into brand new colourful, cosmic interpretations that flourished sonically and rhythmically with brand new sounds that bristled with vision. Salsoul Records thought a well programmed and thought out retrospective of this legends output was in order and this incredible collection of tracks is where we find ourselves. A stellar compilation across 2 heavyweight slabs of wax featuring of some of Gibbons' finest works. Included you'll find genre defining cuts like his mixes of Double Exposure, Loleatta Holloway, Love Committee, First Choice and many more.

A true rarity from Salsoul's vast archive here, one for the bonafide boogie heads out there. This has gotta be one of the rarest Surface records in existence, 3 cuts of that amazing early 80's funk that only Surface can do! A licensed late 90's pressing of this particular EP became highly sought after and has since been impossible to track down for even the most dedicated diggers. 3 full length jams presented here, including a wondrous mix from the legendary Shep Pettibone of the classic 'Falling In Love', also included are the previously unreleased 'Stop Holding Back' and 'When Your X Wants You Back'. This whole record is pure heat, one for the aficionados. Properly licensed, wonderfully remastered and reissued for the dancefloor! You're not gonna find a more solid, well rounded example of that killer post-disco, electronic funk than this collection of cuts. Essential. Snoozing not advised!

First Choice - - Dr. Love (Late Nite Tuff Guy Hypnotizin' Groove)
Legendary Australian Disco-fiend Late Nite Tuff Guy turns up the heat on the equally legendary Salsoul Records with 3 absolutely stellar reworks of some bonafide classics. Somehow, LNTG manages to tweak these old-school recordings and injects a thoroughly contemporary edge into them, making them sound brand new. Featured here are 3 stone cold Salsoul monsters, all respectfully handled and edited with care - First Choice's uber-classic 'Doctor Love' & 'Love Having You Around' (penned by Stevie Wonder & his then wife Syreeta, no less!) and Double Exposure's anthemic 'Everyman' all go under the knife in the best possible way! Beautifully mastered and featuring special Black & Gold Salsoul label artwork this special Record Store Day EP will undoubtedly be a collectors item! One for the Disco heads right here!

loletta holloway - No Title
From deep within the UK underground special things can emanate without warning.
This is exactly what happened here, a special one-off white label remix of one of Disco's biggest stars by one of the founding members of possibly the most influential electronic music crews in the land? Yep. For the uninitiated Loleatta Holloway is part of dance music's DNA, one of the most recognisable voices in Disco. Her tones have graced numerous club classics, she's been sampled 1000's of times, her vocal fingerprints are all over classic House music and are instantly recognisable. Remixer Pangaea aka Kevin McAuley is one of the main members of the formidable Hessle Audio crew alongside Ben UFO and Ramadanman. Rising out of the post-dubstep terrain of modern day England McAuley is a truly open minded DJ and producer pushing sonic boundaries and him and his Hessle co-conspirators have long been garnering respect from all corners since their inception as a collective. 'Stand Up' is a truly potent combination of two very different talents, fusing Pangaea's sparse, stripped back, minimalistic approach and Holloway's roof-raising diva vocals with the end result being a futuristic club classic in the making that gives an understanding, respectful nod to what has come before while gazing forth into the unknown.
Originally released as a promo-only white label, this remix has been wreaking havoc on dancefloors over the course of the summer and has featured heavily in the Hessle Audio crew's DJ sets. Gaining rave reviews on sites such as RA and with people literally passing out with excitement over this very special remix / re-edit it felt only right to give it a reissue on the label that serves as Loleatta Holloway's spiritual home - Salsoul Records. The hype is real on this one, do not sleep!

loleatta holloway - Hit It N Quit It (Cratebug & Jamie 326 Edit)
Yet another solid gold modern reimagining of the mighty Loleatta Holloway, this time her infamous 1977 smash 'Hit & Run' goes under the knife and is tweaked to devastating effect by 2 of Chicago's finest modern day editors - Jamie 326 & Cratebug. Anyone with even a passing interest in Disco or House will be more than familiar with these 2 guys names. Having edited and remixed numerous cuts in their own original ways, they take this all-time Salsoul classic and strip it right back to the essence, to the very basics, and in the process create a total dancefloor weapon. This edit originally came out a few years ago (2013) on a compilation that showcased the new wave of contemporary talent emanating from the Windy City and naturally it was one of the cuts that stood out, finding favour with a wide variety of DJ's across the board from Motor City Drum Ensemble, Todd Terry, Jeremy Underground Paris, Theo Parrish and more. Drawing comparisons with Paperclip People's anthemic 'Throw' from 1994 in the way it snatches a killer loop from 'Hit & Run's' bassline, 'Hit It & Quit It' is a monster, a record you'll literally play over and over and over again, a relentless Disco juggernaut that oozes power. It made perfect sense for this legit single-sided reissue 12" to come out on Salsoul Records, the home of Loleatta Holloway's finest material and all of her classics. This limited reissue has been made in conjunction with Jamie 3:26 & Cratebug and Salsoul Records, 100% sanctioned and lovingly re-presented for your dancing pleasure. This one is HOT. Sleep at your peril!

Nala Sinephro - Space 8
Caribbean-Belgian composer, producer and musician Nala Sinephro announces her debut album Space 1.8 with lead track “Space 3”. Space 1.8 will be released on 3rd September via Warp Records.
The instrumental “Space 3” is a short clip from a 3 hour improvised session with drummer Eddie Hick (Sons of Kemet) and producer/multi-instrumentalist Dwayne Kilvington on synths bass (Wonky Logic, Steam Down) culminating in a synth driven, particle-splitting, rapture. Speaking about the track, Sinephro explains: “We recorded it in the start of spring, it was a magical day. The day after recording I collaged the drums, added fifteen synths, produced and mixed it at home and it was all done.”
Sinephro’s music fuses meditative sounds, jazz sensibilities, folk and field recordings. Her musical practice is rooted in the study of frequency and geometry and guided by the premise that sound moves matter. Her debut album Space 1.8 takes shape as a metaphysical structure, where each curative space is a womb-like cocoon created by Sinephro in service of relief and affirmative, ecstatic freedom. Space 1.8 was composed, produced, performed, engineered, recorded, mixed by Sinephro at age 22. On the album, she plays modular synths and pedal harp alongside her friends James Mollison, Shirley Tetteh, Nubya Garcia, Eddie Hick, Dwayne Kilvington, Jake Long, Lyle Barton, Rudi Creswick and more.
Following electrifying live performances across the London scene, word of Nala Sinephro’s playing quickly spread throughout the UK jazz scene, consequently landing her performances as part of the celebrated jazz night Steam Down, alongside playing with and supporting the likes of Demae, Eun, Coby Sey, Rosie Turton, Robert Ames, London Contemporary Orchestra, Touching Bass, Spitfire Audio, Nadeem Din-Gabisi. She was touted as one of The Guardian’s artists to watch in 2020, has garnered support from the likes of Gilles Peterson; and is a resident DJ on NTS sharing monthly selections of celestial sounds. In 2021, she joined the innovative Warp Records roster where she continues to weave her unique sound world.

Boss Priester - Red Dot (Harry Wills Caught In The Crosshairs Dub)
4 in the chamber as X-Kalay first-timer Boss Priester steps up to the plate. A quartet of the toughest joints you’re likely to hear, maximising that dancefloor impact with minimal fuss.
Flexing like a new-skool combination of golden era Todd Edwards and Nathan Coles right from the off. Groove-forward gear accelerated to new levels through the sheer pressure of that drum programming. Proper dancefloor wreckers.
Stripped back with only the most necessary components required, there’s a dreamlike warmth and sensuality to the funked-out chords and flourishes of hallucinatory detail. Heat-seeking tech house rollers and speed garage revisionism serving pure dancefloor propulsion from beginning to end.
Itchy 2-step into piquant, puckered sidewinders, if the Boss is making baseline and groove his hallmark, then this is a case in point.

Larry Levan's name is synonymous with contemporary dance music culture, his contributions are widely noted in many books and documentaries and in the memories of the lucky people who got to experience his phenomenal DJ sets at the now legendary Paradise Garage in NYC throughout the late 70's until the late 80's. His name is still mentioned with reverence today and he is listed as an influence by countless DJs and artists across the world. Not only did Larry hold down a residency at one of the finest clubs on the planet with his impeccable selecting and DJ-ing skills for a decade, he also lent his expert ear to many remixing jobs and production sessions, adding his touch to a slew of classic dance records that encapsulated the era; Tanaa Gardner "Heartbeat", NYC Peech Boys "Don't Make Me Wait", Esther Williams "I'll Be Your Pleasure", Gwen Guthrie "Seventh Heaven" and Loose Joints "Is It All Over My Face?" to name a select few. It is Larry's peerless tastes that form the basis of this 2003 Japanese only Salsoul records compilation. Compiled by Hisa Ishioka of King Street Sounds / Nite Grooves and consisting of some all time classics dug deep from within Salsoul's vast archives. The tracks included here got regular airings on the dance-floor of the Paradise Garage and helped to form the basis of and inspire the subsequent House and Techno movements in the years following the closure of the club and Larrys' tragic passing. Pressed onto vinyl for the very first time "Paradise Garage - The Legend Of Dance Music Vol.1" contains some stone cold Garage anthems, re-mastered and presented here in triple LP format to remind us all of the power of these timeless records, and the power of the mighty Larry Levan!

Q Lazzarus - Goodbye Horses (New Wave Version)
Summertime Green Vinyl!
For almost everyone, the entry point for discovering the music of Q Lazzarus came via “Goodbye Horses.” The song first appeared in 1988, via Jonathan Demme’s Married to the Mob, but it would not become fully lodged into popular consciousness until it infamously materialized again in Demme’s The Silence of the Lambs in 1991. “Goodbye Horses” felt like a self-contained universe – dreamlike and wholly unusual, an instant classic that left listeners captivated and curious about the mysterious voice behind it. That voice belonged to Diane Luckey, a uniquely talented artist whose music was ahead of its time and who would ultimately remain largely unrecognized in her lifetime.
In conjunction with the release of Aridjis Fuentes’ documentary film Goodbye Horses: The Many Lives of Q Lazzarus, Sacred Bones is releasing a collection of songs that span the entirety of Q’s career, showcasing the different eras of her work and the full breadth of her personality. Released in collaboration with the family of Q, it has the distinction of being her first and only full-length release.
Recorded between 1985 and 1995, this trove of previously unreleased music reflects some of the most interesting facets of pop music from the past four decades in a way that feels both savvy and wildly eclectic. The titular “Goodbye Horses” remains a singular piece of spooky new wave perfection and one might imagine an entire Q Lazzarus album coiled around this aesthetic, but much like singers such as Alison Moyet, Annie Lennox, or Lisa Gerrard, Q’s chameleonic voice could lend itself perfectly to a variety of styles and settings. Her cover of Talking Heads’ “Heaven” transforms the song into a full-throated power ballad complete with tinkly piano flourishes, while her take on Gershwin’s “Summertime” sounds like the kind of dubby club redux that could have been a perfect companion to anything from Nightclubbing-era Grace Jones. Tracks like “My Mistake” and “Hellfire” flirt with house music and showcase just how brassy and belty Q’s voice could be when she really let loose, while “Don’t Let Go” sounds like the kind of bombastic radio single Cher might have released several decades ago. Elsewhere, songs like “Bang Bang” and “I See Your Eyes” espouse the kind of guitar-driven alt-rock sensibilities that, in a parallel universe, could have made them staples on 120 Minutes.
Goodbye Horses represents the potential for so many different kinds of careers that, for whatever reason, never fully materialized. That we now have these songs in the world, and a clearer picture of the person behind them, is nothing short of a blessing.

2024 repress with original artwork.
The original version of this gorgeous schlager techno track, released in august 2001 on Kompakt's Total 3, would put a smile on a lot of people's faces. Apart from the reworked original version, you'll get two sensational remixes: The one from Frankfurt's high-aesthete, super hipster, club- and label-owner with a three-letter name: Ata. Since the very beginning, his Playhouse label has always been a guarantee for finest German House music. It's his first (!) remix ever and his first studio work since the legendary first Playhouse release 'Holy Garage' in 1993. The 'Playhouse Mix' turns the original version into a mega-hip, late-night monster and reminds a bit of the great Larry Levan and Metro Area's congenious adaption of early-80s disco music. The 'Robert Johnson' club is going down on its knees. Wonderful. The other remix comes from one of Kompakt's in-house pioneers of pop ambient: it's Olaf Dettinger. Who didn't want to miss this chance and has interrupted his creative pause only for doing this wonderful 'Moonlight Mix'. Dettinger's cosy hi-tech sounds and Sonja Luebke's seraphic voice, both singing a duet to the moon. Very, very beautiful, indeed.
