Albion 04 brings forth one of the true pioneers of the French house scene with a three track ep from the infamous, Ark . The EP features 3 original tracks which have been dug out from the vaults of his studio deep in Lyon . The before now unheard tracks consist of three peak time slammers: Funk Da Police (2013) Dunktrain (1994) and Liposuccion (1996) all tracks emanate that raw, heavy hitting analogue sound which Albion is renown for. On the remix duties it's the industrious Arttu who delivers a seriously heavy remix which is a real dancefloor weapon.

Monsieur Guillaume Berroyer—the infamous Ark—recently underwent a sort of sea change in both his artistic and personal life. Anyone following his career with even a passing interest knows of his long resume (collabs with Pepe Bradock and Cabanne, Dolibox, Mika Weill, releases on Brif, Karat, Circus Company, Perlon...) and has heard tales of the studio fire and the creative energy shift and all of the stories associated with his frenzied live performances and DJ gigs. Great stories are fun and build mystique, but as most heads know the music more than measures up to the legend. His recent “Arkpocalypse Now” full-length showed a matured craftsman that is not so much waxing introspective as he is distilling his signature sound into something manageable enough to truly adapt to all of his musical tastes.

From his origins as guitarist in a number of 80's funk bands, most notably Trankilou, where he hooked up with the legend that is Pepe Bradock and onto the great Matthew Herbert & LoSoul with their first collaboration, 'Belle Lurette' in '99. The 'Alleluyark' EP series from 2003 reaffirmed as his status as chief protagonist of experimental, groove led house and techno. His 2005 long player on Perlon, 'Caliente' won him critical acclaim, which is furthered by his more recent works together with Shalom (as Shalark), Krikor (as Krikark), Cabanne (as Copacabannark), Mikael Weill (as Les Cerveaux Lents) and Dolibox. His cannon of remixes is as long as the channel tunnel, reworking the likes of Stephen Beaupre, Mr. Oizo, Archive, Mossa, Salif Keita, Slabb, Fym, Robag Wruhme ...

Ark makes us happy again with his punkfunk. On album length he mixes weird stutterhouse patterns with hip hop grooves and funky vocals. For the latter he has invited two guests: On "sucubz" Xavier Vindard sounds even dirtier than James Brown. Then Jamie Lidell smoothly enlarges the chessboard to the previously unknown format "r2d2". This album should be listened to with your sneakers on because you wont stop moving your feet till your neighbour rings the bell.
