Stefan Goldmann's very first release from 2001, thoroughly remastered. Long out of print, this has been extremely sought after classic vinyl. In their day, these tracks (together with Missing Days / That Ghost) created the prototype of today's stripped down house sound. Especially "Gee Baby" has recently been rediscovered and became a signature tune of Ibiza's DC10 / Circo Loco with DJs like Raresh and Matthias Tanzmann - which made it swap back to its native Berlin and its legendary eternal afterhours. The A side's "Closing In" with its broken funk predated a lot of convergence happening now between house and bass music. And last but not least, Stefan Goldmann provides a brand new, ultra-stripped down EDIT of the mesmerizing "Read That Lips." Essential all the way.
Remastered by D+M's Rashad from the original DAT source and cut to premium vinyl, they are finally available again in unprecedented quality.

Ark has got an eclectic and "organic" sound, something in between. From his origins as guitarist in a number of 80's funk bands, most notably Trankilou, where he hooked up with the legend that is Pepe Bradock and onto the great Matthew Herbert & LoSoul with their first collaboration, 'Belle Lurette' in '99. The 'Alleluyark' EP series from 2003 reaffirmed as his status as chief protagonist of experimental, groove led house and techno. His 2005 long player on Perlon, 'Caliente' won him critical acclaim, which is furthered by his more recent works together with Shalom (as Shalark), Krikor (as Krikark), Cabanne (as Copacabannark), Mikael Weill (as Les Cerveaux Lents) and Dolibox. His cannon of remixes is as long as the channel tunnel, reworking the likes of Stephen Beaupre, Mr. Oizo, Archive, Mossa, Salif Keita, Slabb, Fym, Robag Wruhme ... ARK's new LP (cd+vinyl) features singers (Xanax, Lippie) and is here now...

It is a smart and airy groove of atoms in space that rules this mesmerizing album, leading off with an irresistibly deconstructed downbeat monstrosity deceptively tagged as the "Modern Hit Midget" as opposed to actually being a giant. One giant of seven, to be precise: safe in harbour are the seven giants of free Funk who proceed through a variety of way-out psychedelicacies. Which increase in flavour under headphones.

The wane of Villalobos' and Loderbauer's free-floating energy of their Re:ECM work is more than offset here by the increase in rhythmic push through sensual syncopation and eruptive bass energy. The duo is the impetus in Perlon's great new swinging machine.

The Yore Captain returns to his own Yore Imprint on the Labels 21st Release. "Shadow City" presents different visions of funky house grooves. The A side's "The "Y" Theme" gets deeply moving with a funky house pulse before stoking the fire with the addition of speaking voices (trippingly intoning the Q&A "What are we doing this for?" and "The music"), a move which single-handedly jumpstarts the track. After the voices appear, the groove's intensity escalates and plunges deeper, its gyroscopic house swing becoming more dizzying and torrential with each passing bar before coming to an acidy storming end. In its opening moments, "Shadow City" opts for a deeper and more serenading vibe by comparison, but that's traded in for a slinkier attack at the three-minute mark that grows progressively more ferocious as the track makes its drastic upwards ascent. A Trippin' dangerous murder weapon to say the least. Watch your Heads! The B side's B2 track, "Mumbai Dweller" keeps the focus primarily on the bottom end, specifically a strutting tribal-house funk groove that's dragged even deeper by a throbbing bass undertow, adding Dark Chords to it, giving this EP a Darker Feeling towards the end. To sum it all up: This is Raw House Music at it's best!
