There are a number of producers who are known for being prolific; Roska, Cooly G, Benga to name a few, and now Gerry Read can be added to that list. The Cambridgeshire producer has only a handful of actual releases to his name, but a vault of hundreds. We can well imagine his hardrive straining from the sheer velocity of ideas that he sends our way. Raw, urgent and frequently off kilter, Gerry's production challenges your ears but always manages to lock in the groove. Roomland is classic Gerry, bristling with syncopated energy, driven along by crisply stretched rim shots, muted key stabs and a wickedly snakey shaker, only to be pierced by a killer synth line, which has won support from a host of key tastemakers and DJs including Untold and Ben UFO among others. On the remix, is rising star Youandewan, who has been getting love from the underground dance press, as well as a debut release of
deeper dubstep orientated material on Skream's Disfigured Dubz label. Here the "north Londoner" delves deep under the skin of Roomland, digging out the underlying essence and subtly incorporating its rhythmic character into a reshaped, dubbed out house/ techno lather. You can still hear the slight broken beat, but the synths get more covert, almost throbbing away and building the pressure as the baseline peeks in and out; subtle and powerful. One of our favourite illustrators/ artists returns for his 3rd time to adorn the label artwork. Portuguese man of mystery UIU, delivers his most abstract design to date, an awkwardly symmetrical sludge of technicolor. Playful and oddly brilliant. With ingredients like ancient drum machines, arpeggiated melodies, and 80’s pads, their connection boils over with a certain cheekiness that makes listeners grin from ear to ear. Those 3 tracks have lots of groove and solid bouncy Disco House beats and that piano (mmmhhh !!!). Vocals aren't the main event here but they do add another level showing some true Disco production skills. Cosmic Dutch space cadets Morning Factory step up for FINA 005 with a slow motion rhythm and tone EP. Having previously appeared for Yore Records and brother from another mother 2020 Vision, the guys have been busy in the windmill whittling a perfect autumn release. Sultans of Swing EP doesn't quite shadow Dire Straits but it certainly delivers. Hypnotic title track of the same name is features futureproof basslines, layered with an enigmatic drowning echo-led synth while 'Lady' adds a different finish to the wax. Here we find D'Angelo's 96 vocal hook effortlessly breaking through the shuffling punchy bass. There's no Edam to be found on the reverse either as mysterious edits man Cottam reworks 'Sultans of Swing' into a mid-tempo cosmic number.

Though classically trained, Arthur Russell?s major contributions to the music world is in the dance genre. Despite the fact that his pioneering work in the late ?70s and on through the ?80s was only quietly acknowledged at the time, his long-term impact is best described as formidable. Russell died in 1992, but his art lives on and his influence is still felt in the world of dance music and beyond. His innovative, leftfield dance records flew way ahead of what people were used to hearing at the time, due in part to his involvement in New York?s downtown avant-garde music scene. He scored several hits at clubs like The Paradise Garage (Larry Levan was a huge supporter) and his biggest tunes, ?Go Bang!? and ?Is It All Over My Face?? are worldwide hits and still played to this day. His seminal work, the full length ?24-->24 Music? album, has now been expanded to a deluxe 4LP set in a hand silk-screened box. In addition to the music found on the original issue of the album, this collection includes rare 12? remixes and edits, such as the highly coveted Walter Gibbons mix of ?Go Bang!? and the infamously rare ?You Can?t Hold Me Down? (Test Pressing Version). Cool new Ratio? with a surprise Doc Martin remix...! About one year ago Melon met two old friends from Amsterdam lying on the streets of Berlin who gave him an old fashion tape. Out of respect of his (now homeless junkies) friends he borrowed an old tape deck and gave it a listen. He really liked the track but unfortunately he never found his friends again when he went out looking for them. After playing it for months and getting massive feedback the decision has been made to put it out and complimented with two fantastic remixes by California house legend Doc Martin & newcomer Tom Ruijg from Amsterdam, it’s now available for everybody. P.S. guys I owe you a fix!

Sepalcure are poised to release their eponymous debut full length through Hotflush this November. In advance of the album a key track, "Pencil Pimp", will be released as a single, backed with an exclusive track, "I'm Alright".

The single reflects Sepalcure's approach to the album, where Travis Stewart (Machinedrum) and Praveen Sharma (Braille) utilize the longer format to develop their collaborative process and incorporate the diverse influences present in their solo work to their sonic mixture. Machinedrum's much-heralded Room(s) LP and Sharma's recent EPs on Hotflush and Rush Hour reflect the impact of the frenetic, paranoid rhythms of the modern Chicago underground on the wider electronic world and the return to vogue of another musical style that originated from that city: House. But both artists add a crucial sense of emotional sensibility and melodic sensuality that defines the Sepalcure sound. Pencil Pimp will be available on October 31st 2011, followed by the album on November 21st 2011.

As one of the founding talents of James Ruskin’s continuing Blueprint Records empire or Richard Polson and Nick Dunton’s seminal Surface Records, we at THEMA don’t really think we need to remind you who Oliver Ho is. Since 1996 he’s released a steady stream of high quality, stylistically diverse, and highly dependable records on Blueprint, his own Meta, Light and Dark imprints, and such leading labels as Klang Electronik, Macro, and Poker Flat that bridge the gaps between techno, tech-house, and deep exploration and always keep DJs like us reaching for them when we need that not-quite-ordinary thing that keeps people moving. With his different aliases and long career, it’s sometimes difficult to say what exactly makes his sound so unique, but we’ve always enjoyed their tight, funky grooves that keep experimentation in mind at all times. It’s a delicate balance that most couldn’t maintain, but over 15 years Oliver has nailed it almost every time, and we’re proud to have him aboard here for more of the same exceptional quality we’ve come to expect from yet another legendary producer. Whether its under his own name or his more house-focused Raudive material, we’ve always been very impressed with Oliver’s originality, and we’re pleased to report that he integrates some of those avant-garde tendencies noted on his new Wires releases to excellent effect. Actually, some of that comes out on Glass Hearts opening track of the EP, a spooky echofest haunted by abstract, metallic keyboards and repeated vocal detritus. Things go uptempo for the next cut, the “Dark Version” of Seven, where more repeated vocals, some very controlled toms and hats and downcast keys make for an appealing, tightly wound tune sure to make an impact in the mix. Widescreen splits the difference between the opener’s abstraction and the drive of Seven, and it comes up on the half-tempo, introspective side of things for something that we personally find a lot to like about. He heads back to the floor on the B side cuts, certainly the hardest and most unabashedly driving pieces here. Windows sneaks in with some nice rising pads making for something a bit moodier and deeper when combined with the punchy groove established by the drums and female vocal samples. The closer, King and Queen charges forwards with his percussion programming, but there’s still a darker current under those fierce drums that shades the edges and makes for more complex and compelling listening to close this well versed EP. A little something for all users.

We first came across Presk in Eindhoven last year playing support for Doc Daneeka. For his inaugural outing on under the shade, James Johnston delivers a deep and heavy house workout with three original belters that all seem to evolve and grow from a slow sauntering groovers into mammoth club rumblers. Slow in tempo but huge in delivery all teeter around the lower pace of the house spectrum but as James layers them up all become so crammed with content they bust out at the seems and drive home in splendid fashion. Also included is a killer Andy Ash remix of "There is always time to change" that boosts the tempo and utilizes the underlying disco sample to devastating effect.

Wow! What a year the wolf Music crew are having. Every release gets better and better. Each time serving up a unique new offering from a variety of artists all with one thing in common: extremely high standard of production. All too often labels release good but not great music but Wolf Music is a testament to what searching high and low for the freshest artists with the best skills can really achieve. Wolf EP 009 is no different. The A side delivers two prime cuts of super-chic disco house. This is not the 'cheesy' stuff which is abundant in this genre, instead, a really cool low key affair where the finer details of production and the essential yet simple touches have not been over looked. This will appeal to those with both a love and passion for disco and those who have an appreciation for fine music. We flip the record over.. and we are on the B side. Time to get deep. We lead the B side with Greymatter. A warm throbbing bass line combines and intertwines with the stabby vocals and heavy head nodding synths to create a masterpiece strictly for the coolest dance floors in town. This track was built for big speakers and super sub clubs. In my opinion an astonishing record. Next track. B2. A much more subdued affair yet retaining that deep vibe. Melodic synths guide you through the track from start to finish in a hypnotic trance you will fail to escape until the music stops. Vocal stabs are ever present in this also but used sparingly and tastefully to brilliant effect. In conclusion. One often talks about real class produces and labels and buzz names and 'the next big thing'... but only do a handful of labels ever live up to the manufactured hype they seem to receive. Wolf Music not only lives up to it but indeed outshines it. This EP is a must have for any DJ/music connoisseur who truly knows their trade.
