Sven Väth mixes the universal hits and hidden gems of this year´s club music into a 160-minute trip into the now of electronic music. The 12th volume of Väth´s "Sound of the Season"-Series is a unique listening experience for electronic music afficionadas and innocent bystanders alike.
With the Cocoon Heroes, Sven Väth´s techno tribe entered a new stage in its never ending metamorphosis. Fuelled by the communicative energies of the social networks of the internet the Cocoon is opening up, declaring ravers and performing artists, dancers and helpers part of the Cocoon as well. Within the concept of the Cocoon, this is something entirely new: As the nineties, techno´s groundbreaking decade, came to an end, Sven Väth realized a fundamentally new path had to be persued. Calling longtime fellow travellers and new acquaintances together to form a Cocoon: a remote safety zone and a exciting playing ground, a highly productive agency and a weird tribe of electronic music freaks and party animals. With the Cocoon club, Väth and his companions created a new type of club which fused sound and space into one immersive experience. Having realized that the daily life in the big cities compromises partying without limits, they set up a second home each summer at Club Amesia on the Mediterreanian island of Ibiza. The "Sounds of the Season"-Series is an aural photo album and an a compressed culmination at the same time. The love for electronic music is the driving force of all Cocoon´s endevours. Yet they closely watch what is going on outside their Cocoon. Exited about the chatter about musicans and night life going on services like Facebook or Twitter, the concept of the Cocoon heroes was created. Serving as an arena for gossip and discussion, there is even a Facebook app to create the most unlikely avatars, desolving the border between performer and listener.
In the first part of "The sound of the 12th season", Väth melds the crowd into an orgiastic techno feast. Being bold in its outcome, the beginning is quite subtle. Efdemins and Kozes surprisingly slow grooves lure the dancers into their unique electronic sounds. With their demanding beats and heavy basslines, Dense & Pika set a different, energizing tone. Suprsingly quick Väth reaches a first peak with Boys Noize´s "Adonis" - an unlikely encounter of a 80s-Chicago-House-bassline and a seductive arabesque melody. But Väth doesn´t give it all away just now. With the elegant techno soul of Justin Vandevolgers he lets the crowd take a deep breath. Then, when you don´t expect it at all, Todd Terjes accoustic space disco sets in. Terjes Tracks is as an unexpected exposition of the hammering bass and nasty acid sounds of Mark E´s "Belvide Beats" as well. Entering with unexpected force, the gates are open now. The contradicting forces of the dancefloor are finally in sync. Only Väth´s longtime favorites Chateau Flight manage to bring this orgiastic mess back on a managable level. With their stripped down funk, they create a perfect stage for the electronic fusion jazz of Aufgang. The final sequence of the first mix is a journey into melodic electronic sounds: Gary Beck takes us into a clowd of allien strings. Benoit Sergio´s processed voice sounds like Indiepop from a parallel world. Acquiesence´s cloudy soundscapes let us dive into an ocean of pure electronic grace.
With tracks by Steffi, Gerd and Anthony Collins, the House grooves of the second mix set an entirely different mood. It is a set for those moments when the party goes on for hours or even days, when the dancers are completely lost in the elyptic electronic sounds. Move D puts us into a deep trance driving our ever moving bodies into accoustic territories yet to be discovered. A tiny vocal sample is endlessly repeated until the human voice is stripped bare of all humanity. Osunlades shockingly beautiful voice is enriched by Ame´s multilayered House sound which encounters Alli Borèm rough "Scotch Your Mind". Borèm funnily mocks senseless afterhour conversations bare of any sense. Maceo Plex sets a driving disco groove which desolves into Roman Flügels subtle, analytical approach to classical Chicago house. With tracks by Philip Bader, Matt John and Re.You the grooves and voices disssolve into those poetic moments when everything but the music is forgotten. The groove, like life, never ends. But this mix has to. And it does, with Mark E.´s longing synth-pop.
There are many Cocoon Heroes, but there is only one Sven Väth. With his unique curiosity and courage, he gives us a chance to surrender to the music completely. Finally we realize that the beauty and the beast are two faces of the some creature. It is always the electronic trip that you was hoping for. But it never comes the way you expected it to.

Cage & Aviary, - In Todd Trust
Electronic duo Cage & Aviary are set to release their debut album .Migration. on Prins Thomas.s Internasjonal imprint this coming January. But before that 3 exclusive dub mixes of 3 selected tracks are going to be released for your listening pleasure: Migration . Dub Sampler (INTC&A1). Part man, part machine, part cockatiel, Cage & Aviary take flights of fancy whenever they can. Jamie Paton is a DJ, a one-finger keyboardist, and a pot-tickler. Nigel of Bermondsey is a musician, South London.s finest oscillator, and a dedicated dabbler. Together they are winners of the cosmic lottery. Having put out releases to much acclaim on the ltd editions that are Dissident Distribution, Cage & Aviary have since spread their wings with releases on DFA, Tiny Sticks and Astro Lab. Their own label, The Walls Have Ears, is slowly carving out a reputation for quality dubbed-out dance music too - the Cage & Aviary remix series has met with great critical acclaim thus far, with the likes of Andy Blake, Prins Thomas, Horse Meat Disco, Mock N Toof, Bill Brewster, Tim Sweeney, James Murphy, Tiga, Erol Alkan and other such luminaries counted amongst fans of their work.
Some info on the upcoming album (INTCD004 / INTLP004) Now the feathered friends are set to take a new flight of fancy as they unveil their debut album, aptly titled .Migration.. From the opening rolling, cinematic sheen of .Giorgio Carpenter (Director.s Cut). that openly wears its influences on its sleeve to the cosmically spaced out funk of .In Todd We Trust. and slo-mo, disco-not-disco of .Good Egg, Bad Apple. the pair spread their production wings across the dancefloor. Then we teleport our selves via the Leroy Burgess funk-portal to the disco-boogie rockin. .Infatuation. whose slick-rick R&B production adds even more sex appeal to the bird-caged discotheque, whilst .Dead Dancers. brings a live, percussive and guitar .Liquid Liquid. vibe and then in contrast we have the shimmering and floating sun-drenched keys and vox that melt into .Friday the 14th Part IV.. Finally the duo sign off with the proto-house groove of .Lean on Me. which features guest vocalist Denise Johnson (of Screamadelica and A Certain Ratio fame) and the title track .Migration. which oozes yet more Moroder and Carpenter inspired funk. With the imminent release of their debut long-player and remixes for the likes of Blancmange, things are really set to take-off. You know, like a bird.

Freedarich, - Schön

Freedarich, - Gerade Alt
3
Freedarich, - Thank
4
Freedarich, - Spezi
If you were to ask Freedarich to state the artistic area he prefers working in, his shotgun answer would most probably be "music with all its influences". "What amuses and enthuses me most, is the subtly absurd introduction of different styles" Freedarich says about himself.
Generally, his main passion seems to lie in the unearthing of the concealed and unknown, and making these accessible to the listener. Freedarichs music can be found on his new EP "Lava Boy", his first to be released on the label Krakatau. Said label was founded by the Berlin Gentlemen of "Bodi Bill", in order to offer a home to the less established, yet all the more dedicated artists. The EP accepts no vocabulary which could be found in a catalogue. Techno, minimal or house don't belong here, as this music is everything! "Lava Boy" has many stories to tell, this becomes obvious after merely a few tones. The Earth spins a little slower, at least that's what it feels like. You begin to breathe more calmly and your senses intensify. "Lava Boy" sashays and floats, it whispers, but at the same time it rushes forwards and rejoices. One moment the calm ripple of the surf, in the next the screaming, furious waves breaking on the rock. The music ist he tranquility of the landscape and the agitation of the city. It takes you on a journey through the day and into the adventures of the night. It's the pulse of the club, the laughing at the bar, the urge to dance, the exhausted relaxation and the marvel at sunrise. Eventually the sounds fade away and bequeath a soft sense of melancholy: Did minutes pass, or was it hours?
Freedarich has a lot to say: when you listen, when you dance and when you feel.

5
Luigi Madonna, - Vibration
Italian-born Luigi Madonna made his name in his home town of Naples with early EPs released by Loose Records and Analytic Trail, catching the ear of many established techno stars before his original productions and remixes for the likes of Material and Drumcode began punctuating a succession of Plus 8 / Minus boss Richie Hawtin's DJ sets in recent months.
And so Hawtin has now called upon the producer to step up for his debut EP on the Plus 8 imprint, throughout which Madonna explores streamlined and stripped back grooves of the sort perfectly befitting the outlook of the label. The Sensation EP's lead track received a high profile debut in October, making an appearance early on in Hawtin's performance at the Boiler Room Minus special from ADE 2011 (which has thus far reached an online audience of over 100,000).
The EP is marked with the stamp of the Neopolitan's best work: '300' is hypnotic from the off, with wavy grooves building through warm apocalyptic winds and the slinkiest of hi hat patterns. Some rasping synth textures squirm through the whole thing toward the end, whereas 'Vibration works up and down as much as side-to-side. It's derelict, dark and devilishly functional techno whilst next effort 'Blaster' is punchy loopy perfection and 'Fuencarral' hops it way through classic Plus 8 territory whilst exuding a broody mood all its own.
'Sensation' itself has more of an insistent snap in its tail. The kicks and percussion here are livelier than before, with spraying synth sounds and classic techno percussion exploding into a beautifully bouncy peak time concoction.

Tiefschwarz beckon you to 'Dominate My Sensation' with their latest single on the boy's own Souvenir. And with its booty-shaking, bass-bumpin' funky house vibe, it's ripe for the plucking on dancefloors across the world.
The title track kicks things off with a dual attack of bass and hi-hat; urging us into its insistent groove. Then it takes a firmer hold with its sultry vocals, shaking us around a bit in the process. With the Carnivalesque atmosphere of seamy summers in Rio, we welcome a funky percussive workout into the mix while a synthline squiggles around us. The break's saucy vocal instructs us to allow entry into our very own adventure, percussion building to peak levels. Lost in the moment, none can resist this kick, and bodies are lost in a dizzying swirl.
B-sides include an energetic reimagining from the label's very own Frankfurters, Chris Wood and Meat, fresh from their recent smash "Triple S EP" on Souvenir and Pascal Feos & Frank Leicher manage to dial up the sleaze quotient, murking out the bassline and distorting the vocal.

Ruede Hagelstein, The Noblettes, - Good Night
Ruede Hagelstein is best known for techno and house. Although his heart beats not only for the bass drum. His first album, Soft Pack, invites you to melancholic deceleration, which runs like a thread throughout the album. Yes, Ruede is a resident DJ at Berlin's Watergate club, but here he presents songs he would not play in the club because they are too down tempo and sentimental for sweaty dancefloor nights.
In 2004 his first EP 'Sweaty Balls' appeared on Freundinnen Records, the label of his friend and Berghain-Panorama Bar Resident ND_Baumecker. Celebrated in England by the sleazy disco crowd, and licensed by Output Records. The B side, Eclectic People inspired France's electro-clash scene and landed on the Kitsune Maison Compilation. Despite different stylistic orientations, Ruede's choirboy vocal remained the unifying element. This was followed by functional techno hits on Lebensfreude Records, losing the vocals in the process. Mathew Dear grabbed 'Keep Us Away' for his Fabric mix, and Sven Väth worked Waves into his Sounds Of The 6th Season. Remixes were done for Chikinki, Louie Austen, and Elle P: & Iftah. His home base is Tiefschwarz's label, Souvenir and Upon You Records, where is recently released 'Who's Me' EP filled the favorite summer CD slots of many Djs, including DJ Koze.
But Ruede Hagelstein hasn't lost any ground on the dancelfoor with his new album. Aside from the Digital, and CD release of Soft Pack, souvenir will be presenting three singles with various club remixes. A good example of the arc that spans Ruede between strobe and candlelight is the track 'Emergency' which stormed DJ charts and polls on 2010, will be presented in a down tempo edit on Soft Pack.
For most of the tracks, Ruede calls in for backup, and formed a band, The Noblettes. Together with his buddy Justin Evans, he writes spherical numbers like Posteriori and Leaving The Center, reminicent of Simon & Garfunkel. The most danceable track is 'Private' featuring vocals from Aileen Mrkwitschka, although he composes also without beats, as on 'Good Night'- The Complex horns are contributed by friend of Aileen, Mieke Wenzl, who joined the band as a multi instrumentalist. The blend of these four musical personalities is Ruede Hagelstein & The Noblettes, who managed to create this timeless indie-electronica album.

Needless to say that E.A.R is very happy to of signed an E.P off Luke Solomon. Luke's "Say Something" was recorded using live musicians, vocals, and drums, this is something that E.A.R love doing and bringing the talent of live music into a club environment and Luke has done this perfectly. The original boasts a good feel vocal with breathtaking production, whilst the "Dub Something" brings it into the clubs for the Deep House crowd. Now dim the lights and focus on the heavier darker side of Lukes mind as he brings the "Do Something" mix in to a peak time track.

All the Cave Paintings releases are one-take analogue excursions constructed by machines and recorded live in New Cross Gate and mastered for vinyl in Hackney. 3x is a close cousin of 2y. A simple but dramatically effective warmly buzzing bassline is clambered all over by layers of interlocking pure analogue percussion. Machine funk meets the locking crew for a warehouse showdown. 3y heads into thus far uncharted territory. An evil, growling lfo driven bass underpins militaristic percussion that's slammed hard into ancient spring reverbs and accompanied by the sound of synthesisers being choked to death. Heads down strobe-lit dancefloor action.

Dub for Mehdi" is, indeed, a fitting homage for the late producer. A-Track has turned the Rapture track into dance floor perfection. In the original's place is a song that morphs from music-to-move-to into a full on electro whirl. The whole track simply soars. The Populette remix, on the B-side, while not quite as frenetic in its energy, achieves near visual beauty, the images it conjures are so lovely. Imagine the original now filled with blinking, silvery-synth bells, all flashing like lights. If you could turn music's notes and tones into images, Populette's remix would be nothing short of illuminated. - Kali Holloway

Late 2008 Discos Capablanca invited Eric D. Clark and Traxx (Nation) to dj at a label party. Eric ended up singing live over Traxx' beats. Doing so 'In a daze', originally an unreleased instrumental by Traxx and Beau Wanzer, evolved into the final version you hear here, combining 808 sounds and a passionate vocal delivery, with the rough and gritty edges still intact.

Resurfacing a few years major his explorations "At the End Of the World," Dan Quin throws from left field and scores a hit with his unorthodox take on vocal house music. "Everybody Knows" is a party-rocker with heart and integrity, remaining loyal to the tenants of dark, exploratory house and techno while superseding the problematic attachment to the past that has retarded the development of song-based dance music. The result is a sprawling, ominous and moving piece of internally conflicted electronica, caught in the ford between a reverence for the work of electronic-pop visionaries like Fever Ray, and the loyalties of the vast, red-lit expanses of NYC rooted club music. Featuring the fresh new talents of Brooklyn native Tammy K., "Everybody Knows" is the latest release on Dope Jams' very own in-house record label, a new manifestation of soulful house for a new generation of dance music devotees thirsty for the universal sensibilities of the vocal without the tired cliches of yesteryear.

After their recent success with their latest remix for Homework's track "I'm Into This" on Exploited which has been holding a strong position in the Beatport house charts for the last 3 months, Andre Crom&Martin Dawson suggested to make a guestrelease on Shir Khan's Berlin imprint Exploited. Here it is: A peaktime oldschool house roller with a kicking remix by Homework. Already highlighted by Pete Tong on BBC Radio 1, Solomun, Axel Boman, Round Table Knights, Hot Chip and dOP. Martin Dawson has been absolutely smashing it for the last 12 months, with some very successful releases and collaborations with some of the best labels in underground house and tech including Cocoon, Crosstown Rebels, Get Physical, 2020vision, Off recordings and Moodmusic. Notably his Sunday Smoking album released late last year was a huge success, with a number of charismatic, melodic house and deep tracks aimed at the dancefloor, as well as some beautifully crafted downtempo soundscapes more fitting with a lazy sunday afternoon.

After 3 years of hibernation, Golem is back ! The monster was reactivated. After listening his new EP "Lucifer En Discothèque", he decided to kidnapp I:Cube, brought him in his cavern and ask him to do special edits to make him dance. That's the real genesis of this 7th episod of Golem adventure : "I:Cube presents Cubo Edits".On Side A, I:Cube took what its seems to be an italo track to turn in in a slow pitched house monster with a strong climax...It's followed by the track "A Bicyclette", a cosmico-romantic trip with french lyrics...But the Golem wanted more...really more... That's why on side B you can find first "Piano In Paradisio". As you guess, a real piano house anthem which will bring you back in the late 80's House Music golden age era. And last but not least, this new episod ends with "You Dance So Well", a real floor filler cosmic/synth wave hyptnotic track sung in german.

Raudive, - End Of The Street
Another critical release, following the deadly DJs Pareja single of last month. Perfectly timed and cued after the recent Raudive long-player on Stefan Goldmann's Macro label. Raudive is Oliver Ho's darker, more 'new-wave' operative, and these latest productions have caught the attention of the folks at History Clock - and it's a perfect alliance. The 'Levels EP' is a debased mix of sleazy, after-hours acid-dancehall with the icy cool of minimal, machine-music dynamics. Essential, in a word.

Hot release alert by our boy Paul du Lac who is a long time close friend of the frustrated family, colleague at the Clone office and an old DJ buddy of Frustrated Funk label boss Klen (when they played the Nighttown Basement in the early 90's). So it's a bit of a special thing for us having him aboard. This EP shows Paul's signature minimalistic approach on Chicago style house. Typical jacking 707s and 808s combined with minimal synth pulses. 'Qom' and Access' are pure jackin' bliss for the floor while 'Moodswings' goes deeper with layers of warm pads and spaced out stings. The title track comes with a stripped beats version from Tevo Howard, for those who like to mix things up.. Highly Recommended!!

Hotflush presents the third single from George FitzGerald: “Shackled”. Having already dropped two excellent EPs for Aus and Man Make Music this year, George returns on Hotflush Two with three tracks embodying the style he has matured over the last two years. Using a sonic palette that melts the emotive flavors of UK garage & soulful house into a slower amalgam of dubstep and techno, this emerging London producer offers his own suave and enticing blend of bass music. “Shackled” has already made a distinct impression as a standout track on Scuba’s DJ Kicks mix compilation released in October.

The legendary Gene Hunt !!! Gene Hunt's first release was on the infamous TRAX imprint and he swiftly followed it up with a string of tracks that were personified by a strong influence from Detroit. Deep strings mixed with intricate drum patterns were his trademark and his Melodies EP for Nepenta was one of the labels first hits. A Chicago house music pioneer, and World Class deejay, Gene has collaborated with a range of critically-acclaimed artists and producers, including Adam Beyer, Cari Lekebusch, Carl Cox, Paul Johnson, Farley Jackmaster Funk, Frankie Knuckles, and Ron Hardy. This Ep with four killer tracks brings back old times !!! HOT !

‘And I heard a strange deep sound. As I got closer to that particular place, the music took a more stable form...I thought I already knew this sound from somewhere’…welcome to the musical world of exciting new Amsterdam based producer Simon Weiss. Coming over all early Theo and Moodymann-esqe, he clearly demonstrates a passion for all things Detroit in terms of mood, melody, rhythm and texture. Half bouncing feet, sweaty walls and concrete floors, half sophisticated, futuristic movie soundtrack score …Simon Weiss fits the description of a Home Taper absolutely perfectly. Dance to it, close your eyes to it, but whatever you do listen to it. 100% House music with bits. Play it all night long!!

Following on from the likes of Maya Jane Coles and T.Williams, next to release on ever cultured Hypercolour off shoot HypeLtd is Toronto beatsmith Kevin McPhee. With releases on labels like Idle Hands and [nakedlunch] in 2011, this man has established himself as one of the finest and freshest producers of the year. Here turning in four more original cuts, McPhee's fascination with house apparently continues apace. Opener 'I Will' has gorgeously under-lapping beats, teary-eyed melodies and dreamy female vocals all rolling along together in sombre harmony. Variously being peeled back to just the chords, just the vocal or just the scuffed beats, it's a track that remains forever swollen with an unspoken sadness, despite making decent progress.
'Hang My Head' is less dreamy and more gnarled round the edges. Punching along at an inviting mid-tempo, a buried bassline gets busy as louche beats echo in the spaces above. It's hollow and suggestive, where 'Your Side' returns to a more mopey and insular vibe. Here the kicks trudge along, a mildly euphoric male vocal floating in between them and some long tailed, churchy synths leaving a trail in their wake. It's beautifully melancholic; cautiously optimistic...'Blue Organ' again sounds distant, instilling a dreamy, hypnagogic kinda vibe to the smeared tones and edgeless kicks which otherwise spread out in every direction. Even the percussion is murky and half remembered, veiled with years of dust that also obscures the sound of some nimble fingers which begin to dance up and down a piano toward the end of the record. McPhee very much has his own fine grain analogue aesthetic... this most delightful EP only confirms that.

Second release on iS Records, The A-side, The Future Never Was combines sparse beats and pads held together by a growling stuttered bass, which gives the track an industrial feel but on a techno/house tip. On the flip, Fake The Feeling, draws on sounds beyond the current trend for vintage analogue in an original take on the house blueprint. The B2 track Out of Orbit is 4 minutes 48 seconds of Tech soul, for the floor or the headphones.

Biodub, - Reminder
3

Biodub, - Reisegefaehrte
Following the Debut LP on Ki, we've put together a few of our favorite artists to remix some tracks of their choice. It was important for us, that the artists kept their individual approach to their genre, so that we could get a very diverse release. First up is the Japanese producer Stereociti, who just released his debut album on Mojuba Records. He gives the title track "Reisegefaehrte" his very own deep touch. Second up is our close friend Glitterbug, who seems to create a very own genre with his interpretation of "Barracuda". On the flipside Stundman goes straight to the dancefloor. Jacking beats and pounding basslines are his "Reminder". And as if P.Laoss knew what the real deal is, he turned "Subsistence" into a Fata Morgana trip back to the time when Dub was really "Dub". Perfect completion of what we expected from this Remix EP.

LB003 arrives courtesy of Bristol born, Brighton based producer Sam Kidel, aka El Kid. Following up his well received debut on Immerse Sam drops 3 tracks of wildly varied bass music. Beginning with the title track 'Hypnosis'; lush ambient pads and plucked guitar soon give way to fearsome bass swells and metronomic percussion, coming across like early Autechre remixed by Floating Points. Second track 'Mud' drops the pace for a noisy house workout, reminiscent of fellow Bristolians Kowton, and labelmate Vessel. Kachinja on the flip is the straightest - and darkest - of the lot, a lurching warehouse techno cut that wouldn't sound out of place on Ostgut Ton. Finally Hyperdub wunderkid Walton contributes a rough & ready funky dub of 'Hypnosis' to round out the EP.

Lonesome Hero is the anonymous, vinyl-only project spawned from a love of Techno’s vinyl purism by a collective of artists growing tired of Techno's current cult of celebrity. Visit lonesomehero.net to read up on the LH philosophy. Lonesome Hero's 3rd iteration introduces an entirely new artist project: "Campaign of Love". COL is the brainchild of an artist collective comprised of individuals perhaps atypical in modern dance music: a guitar-playing tattooist; a pianist cop; one, legendary mid-90s house producer; and a handful of analogue-minded individuals... With the mission of ignoring hype, COL has chosen instead to focus on the joys of experimenting with sound in a room full of friends and analog hardware.

Incarnations, - Let Love Find You (Lexx Remix)
Incarnations strike again with a fine batch of reworks of tracks off of the mesmerising “With All Due Respect” album. For starters, Lexx turns love ballad “Let Love Find You” into a haunting Balearic Jan Hammered beauty, keeping Bing Ji Ling's vocals and adding some Nyabinghi drumming and spectral synths. Space Ranger then take the uplifting “Hindi Ko Alam” to jacking disco territory while sprinkling their cosmic dust all over it, and Kare Frisvold & Rune Lindbæk manage to transform the contemplative “Sunset On Punta Paloma” into a psychedelic dancefloor affair.

Enter the purple maze again with three subtle techno tracks from Yør. After some challenging an experimental offerings last time out, secretive musicos Purple Maze are to release their second offering, the Rave EP, in December 2011. It comes from equally low-key producer Yør, and is a release that operates a little closer to the dancefloor than maze 001... Despite the opening track?s title, though, ?Rave? is still no mindless banger. It?s heavy, analogue and deep house with a well-swung kick swaying back and forth to start it off. Soon as some minor chords drop in from above, though, the air turns dark and somber and things wallow. But with the arrival of some sandy hi-hats and grimy percussion, the mood grows optimistic rather than pessimistic, and picks up momentum as a result. ?Golden Boy? is slightly more mobile from the off. Again taught analogue bass notes start it, but nebulous samples and percussive sounds flesh out the structure as a panning tick grows louder and a radiant synth line weaves its way throughout the whole mix, threating to explode into euphoria. As a result you stayed lock in, willing it to break out, but it doesn?t? the subtle joy of the chase is immeasurable. ?2712? is like eavesdropping on a busy dancefloor from somewhere underground: The whole thing is in fine grain, with soft focus beats and indecipherable voices all muffled by static and tape hiss. It fades and dissipates with no warning and sounds as if it started long before we tuned in, and will go on long after the thing finishes? eerie, earthy stuff. A self-assured and delightfully suggestive release, Rave EP pulls you deep into the Purple Maze without you really realizing.

Hugo Barritt was a promoter at London's infamous 'Egg' venue, during which time he focused his attention on Robert Owen's residency at the club. A friendship was struck up and when Hugo finally decided to leave to concentrate on production he could think of no-one better to provide the vocal's to 'You Are' than the most recognisable voice in dance music, Mr Owens himself. Befitting such a wonderful coupling, Efdemin heard the track and agreed immediately to provide the remix, and a splendidly slick ride it is too, taking the merest hints of Roberts vocal whilst injecting a melodic feel for a blissed out ride through the early hours. Contrast that with high octane thrill's of murmur regular Tom Demac's remix - dispensing with the subtleties of the original in favour of a power house ride of beats and bass, warping Robert's vocal into something altogether sleazier.

Kingdom, - Let You No
2
Kingdom, - Stalker Ha
3
Kingdom, - Dreama
4
Kingdom, - Hood By Air Theme
Fresh from starting our US sister label Fade To Mind, Kingdom is back on planet Night Slugs with a new 4 track EP. The long-awaited "Let You No" continues where "Fogs" (NS006) left off: A cinematic half-time environment of snap percussion and winding eski synths, with a longing performance from a disembodied diva, the track's anonymous guest star. "Stalker Ha" sees Kingdom return to the vogue track format he first explored on his remix of Egyptrixx' "Everybody Bleeding" (NS002). It's a 'Ha track' in that it samples Masters At Work, but its militant precision and weight are all Kingdom's own. "Dreama", the EP's title track lives us to its name, a soundtrack to the disembodied rave experience in a forest clearing that the EP's cover depicts. Stargazing with an eski grime soundtrack. Finally "Hood By Air Theme", originally created for a show by the clothing label of the same name, is an apocalyptic soundscape with footwork percussion at its unsteady core.

Other Heights brings the debut EP from Ghostek, one of the young pioneers in the postdubstep-era. Next to his own ’Cryon‘, it features an intense collaboration with Roof Light as Ghostlight and a remix of his favorite track from TH. Eerie, deepness and a little blend of darkness straight out of the Russian forests marks this first exciting release.

On the Prowl's Party Breaks imprint is back, this time with a four-track collection of tunes from label co-owner and the other half of Runaway, Jacques Renault. Here, we find the Brooklyn-based DJ and producer doing one of the things he does best: edits. However, unlike previous releases, Renault is expanding his reach and dabbling in genres he hasn't publicly unleashed before the 12" begins with an ode to the sounds of early 90s raves (complete with air horns and a Mary J. Blige vocal sample), hops over to the deep house styles of the era with a jam that sounds right out of a Crystal Waters playbook, and finally lands on a couple of electrified, feel-good disco edits, properly (and authentically) embellished with fidgety guitars, sexy vocals, and a dash of piano glitz. As always, Renault's distinctly gritty, rythmic aesthetic underscores each track, unifying them despite the fact that each is a nod to a different era, a different style, and a different inspiratio

Simon/off, - New Basics
Phuture Shock Musik present their 5th release, this time procuring the reliable talent of one of the most slept on producers in the world of Bass music - that is Simon/off. Those in the know will be aware that the Austrian native has been simmering in the underground for quite some time now, having laid the groundwork through early releases on Haunted Audio, a noteworthy EP for Immerse Records, and further contributions to several other smaller labels. This latest plate by the name of 'Planetary Communication' EP finds Simon/off leaning more towards his Techno and Broken Beat side, which has of late began to flourish in his recent productions, and consists of three well crafted Afro-Tech riddims oozing weighty low-end frequencies, funky drum work and finely detailed percussion. Widespread support on Sub FM, and increasing support from several other major players in the underground bass scene.

With Vantaa, Raster-Noton releases for the first time an album by Vladislav Delay aka Sasu Ripatti. Even though complex electronic manipulations are used, Vantaa wants to sound like a piece of nature, resulting in a mixture of techno/dub and organic textures. The tracks oscillate between a decadent, greyish, post-industrial sound cloud and the intimate atmosphere of a vast and desolate Finnish landscape.

Tangible Assets’ is a new independent solo platform for underground dance music that will be releasing various forms of house and techno associated with traces of deepness. The label stands for quality music that would differ from the current trends in the vibrant music industry. Releases will be available only in tangible (physical) form. The debut release ‘Asset001’ showcases four original tracks. The opening ‘Introvert’ track is a strong pounding melodic techno where the infectious pad theme is filled with various warm synths and chord jams. With adding the classic 909 drums and the fat baseline, creation here is a podium oriented deep mood banger. This side continues with the ‘Decay’ track, a nice symbiosis between the old-skool groove and mellow pad accordions, spiced up with leading texture and beautiful string arrangement that forms an outstanding floor builder that could be dropped at any time. The B-side kicks off with a track called ‘Traveler’, a deep ‘n soulful groover, with raw percussions cuts, funked-out baseline notes, bell texture, dubby chords floating thru and unique lead, all together delivering out dynamic & warm tech ride. Finally the last cut of this EP is ‘Raw Method’ is a Detroit-Influenced stripped down house tune, where the 808 drums are combined with a synth aspect that develops along the track respectively with the padlines, the strings, and electric piano chords. All together forming a melodic theme which’s elements are carrying out really strong emotion. On this release we witness Stojche’s ability and skills to execute a ‘must have record’. This is another strong release by Stojche and great intro for Tangible Assets!

The project, a 6 hands affaire, sees teaming up three of the most interesting artists of the moment: The Analogue Cops, duo already known for their imprint Restoration Records and for their Moodymann's remix under the Appointment moniker and Blawan, the UK producer who saw his debuts released last year by imprints such as Hessle Audio, Warp, R&S and soon on Clone who represents, alongside fellows James Blake, Pearson Sound a.k.a Ramadanman and Joy Orbison, the young breed of talentented new UK producers. Runaway's remix of "Push 4 Love" sees a return to form for the duo of Jacques Renault and Marcos Cabral, and a Wurst homecoming of epic proportions to the label that released their debut smash. A monstrous bassline drives the mix, signaling a different direction for Runaway one that we'll hopefully see more of. Flip it over for an altogether alarmingly groovy remix courtesy of none other than In Flagranti. Tuff beats and nasty low-end form the rhythm section of this cyber-boogie jam, saving the vocals for the last bit, keeping them dubbed out and dreamy in the best way possible.
