Ruede Hagelstein, The Noblettes, - Berlin
Souvenir presents Ruede Hagelstein's second single release 'Berlin' off last year's debut album 'Soft Pack' alongside his band The Noblettes.
Last time round it was 'A Priori' with a bunch of remixes, and here 'Berlin' is featured in its original version as well as with lots of digital only goodies. Mathias Kaden, much-loved around the city as a member of both the Vakant and Freude Am Tanzen families, supplies the A-side treatment. He warps out the original's sunset melody, into a swirling, psychedelic bassline more fitting to a an afterhours sunrise, the once-jubilant vocals processed down into a careless whisper. Frankfurt dons Chris Wood & Meat, subtly crank up the tempo on 'Private' retaining its warped strings, but underpinned by a driving drum pattern, the diva-esque spoken vocals are stretched over it all like the tight skin drawn over a snare. Finally, the joyous, open-air anthem that is the original, lightens things up, that particular excitement felt by Berlin residents on returning home perfectly described by its gentle plucked melody and soothing saxophone.
Digitally, there's three fantastic extra remixes, Emerson Todd chopping up 'Berlin' into a wonky, peak-time monster, the chorus barely recognizable as a mere double-tap to the kick. Less & Moses cook up a very special treat for 'A Posteriori', throwing all the constituent parts into a solid pot of galvanized steel, swirling synth sweeps and a dubbed out bassline bubbles away until exploding into the beautiful vocal refrain of the original. A rain of rhodes chords signals the stew's reached a turning point, Orbital-esque fills applying emotive seasoning until the track finishes out on the same crowd samples as it began. Gunne does a Mathew Herbert on 'Good Night', upturning the original's cabaret vocals onto a tribal, uptempo groove, with guitars and a throbbing bassline. Aileen Pho?nex's sultry lyrics turn from melancholy to predatory, as she sweeps across the dancefloor, seeking the pleasures of the love rather than yearning for things lost.

Ruede Hagelstein wants it all, and not just that jazz. The Berlin producer, known for his productions that straddle the boundary between house on techno, released on labels like Souvenir and Upon You Records, will release his debut album 'Soft Pack' together with his band, The Noblettes on November 18, 2011.
A Priori is the first track on the indie-electronic LP, and cannot claim itself free from jazz influences. With piano, a horn section, and brushed snares, the track swings with the best of them. Since Ruede's vocals also require something a little more dancefloor-friendly, this digital appetizer will be served up with a remix from the man himself. The vinyl will follow with remixes from Guillaume & The Coutu Dumonts, Noir and Tiefschwarz.

Ruede Hagelstein is best known for techno and house. Although his heart beats not only for the bass drum. His first album, Soft Pack, invites you to melancholic deceleration, which runs like a thread throughout the album. Yes, Ruede is a resident DJ at Berlin's Watergate club, but here he presents songs he would not play in the club because they are too down tempo and sentimental for sweaty dancefloor nights.
In 2004 his first EP 'Sweaty Balls' appeared on Freundinnen Records, the label of his friend and Berghain-Panorama Bar Resident ND_Baumecker. Celebrated in England by the sleazy disco crowd, and licensed by Output Records. The B side, Eclectic People inspired France's electro-clash scene and landed on the Kitsune Maison Compilation. Despite different stylistic orientations, Ruede's choirboy vocal remained the unifying element. This was followed by functional techno hits on Lebensfreude Records, losing the vocals in the process. Mathew Dear grabbed 'Keep Us Away' for his Fabric mix, and Sven Väth worked Waves into his Sounds Of The 6th Season. Remixes were done for Chikinki, Louie Austen, and Elle P: & Iftah. His home base is Tiefschwarz's label, Souvenir and Upon You Records, where is recently released 'Who's Me' EP filled the favorite summer CD slots of many Djs, including DJ Koze.
But Ruede Hagelstein hasn't lost any ground on the dancelfoor with his new album. Aside from the Digital, and CD release of Soft Pack, souvenir will be presenting three singles with various club remixes. A good example of the arc that spans Ruede between strobe and candlelight is the track 'Emergency' which stormed DJ charts and polls on 2010, will be presented in a down tempo edit on Soft Pack.
For most of the tracks, Ruede calls in for backup, and formed a band, The Noblettes. Together with his buddy Justin Evans, he writes spherical numbers like Posteriori and Leaving The Center, reminicent of Simon & Garfunkel. The most danceable track is 'Private' featuring vocals from Aileen Mrkwitschka, although he composes also without beats, as on 'Good Night'- The Complex horns are contributed by friend of Aileen, Mieke Wenzl, who joined the band as a multi instrumentalist. The blend of these four musical personalities is Ruede Hagelstein & The Noblettes, who managed to create this timeless indie-electronica album.
