Not much is known to us about Belly Dance, or the producer behind this imprint, what we do know is it's from the Manchester area of the UK. The record itself is intially a vocally, slow beat, number with big kicks and heavy synths proceeding male and female vocals that could have been lifted straight out of the Trash Indie sound that domintated the early 2000's. The vocals are not credited to anyone so its not clear if this is the work of more than 1 person or not but the male vocals sound in some way familiar, almost like a voice from the past. On the flip side things hit a slightly different, funk, Nu-Disco kind of vibe in the form of Headman on the remix. We can only assume if a producer of Headman's esteem is putting his mark on this record then this is not going to be the last we see from Belly or this intirguing, yet slightly odd, imprint Belly Dance.

Diverse 3 track EP from NYC's Ulysses... more sounds that define Bunker NY....TIP! the label say" When it comes to new music from Ulysses, you never know what you're going to get. His career has spanned genres from Techno and House to Experimental and Disco, with every release delivering an exciting musical surprise. An essential pioneer of the late-‘90s electro scene in New York, Ulysses threw some of the earliest large-scale electro parties with legends such as Alexander Robotnick and Arthur Baker, as well as stars like I-f, Adult, and Miss Kitten and the Hacker. Over the span of his eclectic discography, this Brooklyn-based DJ and music producer has collaborated with Thugfucker’s Holmar Filipsson as Filipsson & Ulysses as well as with John Selway in the prolific Neurotic Drum Band. His release schedule has slowed a bit in the past few years as he’s raised a family, but a visit to his basement studio to check out his archive of unreleased tracks proved that he has been very busy producing new work. These three tacks are our favorites of the bunch. This is fantastic music that speaks for itself, but Ulysses submitted three questions for this one sheet: Would you trust a guru in sweatpants?

A re-issue from the Classic stable. This time a little something from early 90's Chicago - Written by Mystic Bill and Carl Giamerese the record was a staple part of Luke Solomon and Kenny Hawkes' DJ sets throughout the Girls FM and Bar Rumba / Space years. Luke got in touch with Bill recently as he wanted to include it on his forthcoming 'Unfinished Business' compilation and after much getting to know one another it transpired that Bill was the only surviving member of the original production team. With that, both decided that it would be a fitting time to re-issue the record with a new re-master and new set of remixes. Eats Everything literally begged Luke to remix the record with astounding results. Luke then approached his dear friend Tristan De Cunha, one half of vinyl sensations Dungeon Meat alongside his partner in crime Brawther, to see if they would be up for giving the record a new school old school take - which they did with wondrous results.

Damian Lazarus presents his new artist project. Damian Lazarus and the Ancient Moons will make their debut on Crosstown Rebels this summer. The single 'Lovers' Eyes (Mohe Pi Ki Najariya)' is the first release from Lazarus's new collaborative artist project, which will build towards an album and live shows in early 2015. Lazarus has been joined at the production controls by James Ford (Simian Mobile Disco, Arctic Monkeys, Florence), with album recording sessions completed in Mexico in February. Ancient Moons brings together a wide assortment of vocalists, collaborators and players, from around the world, with more details of this heady mix to be released in the near future. Taking inspiration from Lazarus's Lazpod series, Get Lost events and Day Zero festival in Mexico, this is music for deserts, jungles and sunrises. Getting the ball rolling is this 12", 'Lovers' Eyes (Mohe Pi Ki Najariya)', a single that promises to be one of the year's more unique and distinctive electronic music releases. Vocalists Fareed Ayaz, Abu Muhammad and Hamza Akram are Pakistan's leading Qawwali singers. Qawwali takes the form of a series of thematically and formally linked verses, and is steeped in a tradition that can be traced back to the 13th Century. On 'Lovers' Eyes (Mohe Pi Ki Najariya)' they sing of cosmic love, and the four eyes of the lovers becoming one. Set to Lazarus and Ford's incendiary techno production, the result has been causing chaos on the dancefloor. Early tastemaker reactions has seen everyone from Skrillex to the BBC Asian Network, Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs to Carl Craig chiming their approval, and with Pete Tong awarding 'Lovers' Eyes' Essential New Tune on Radio 1, this has all the hallmarks of being one of those wonderful electronic music curveballs that confuses and delights in equal measure. The Ancient Moons have entered our orbit.

Delft 002 welcomes another new name to the fold: it's been four long years since the last officially released original JPLS material but the wait was worth it, with the producer making his Delft debut with 'Fall Off Distance', an acid techno nuclear weapon that's been causing panic when dropped on isolated testing sites thus far. Key Fachwerk team member Sascha Rydell is back on his home label founded by Mike Dehnert with another EP of searing techno. 'Thought Disorder' is a cantering, bulky affair with clipped vocals trapped in the middle of meaty drum loops. It's a well-swung track that has plenty of height to it, while 'Haptic' appears to make sue of the same vocal phrases. This time it's subtler, buried deep in a minimal percussive line and dubby, swaying drums. With some cute finger clicks joining the fray, this one is perfect for early evening warm-ups where the opener is a peak time banger. Filling up the b-side is Moony's remix of 'Rings Of Smoke' - a track by Roberto that was released on Fachwerk's previous EP. This new remix is a jazzy bit of dubbed out house with whispered vocals, uneven but warm piano chords and rolling kick drums that all make for a seductive and propulsive listen

That Mathias Kaden definitely knows how to put together a complete mix-cd, is clearly on display for the full-blooded DJ and house enthusiast with the 2011 compilation of the Groove CD number 40. Manuel fondly named his small studio set up at his Dad's place Es Cub (The Cube) and it was here in this sanctuary away from the distraction of clubs and friends that he began to forge the tracks that we present on this LP. As Manuel describes, what started life as a collection of little finger exercises and sonic experiments soon grew into fully arranged club tracks. These were clearly influenced by the omnipresent house and techno that he could hear drifting from the nearby beach club which rose above the rustle of wind-swept trees and chirping cicadas whilst he sat on his terrace. If all this sounds like a bit of a Balearic cliché, then so be it because Manuel is happy to admit to just how much the esoteric, cabalistic nature of Ibiza influenced him in the making of Es Cub.

NeListening back, ‘Interlude’ will feel like the perfect opening to ‘Skylax’. A jazzy encore crawls in, morphing into a skippy hip-hop instrumental with Jason’s signature flourishes all over it. Aptly named as it is, this is the breathing space between whatever came before in your day, and the eleven deep house gems that are to follow. Speaking of, ‘The Love’ will have you gripped from the first bar. It glides the listener in, then subtly drops that signature, tightly-tuned bassline of Jason’s and continues onto soulful vocals from there. ‘Old Dayz’ touches on a bit of a nostalgic note. The spoken vox cuts harken back to 90s hip-hop joints, playing over a looped Latin sample-led beat. From there, ‘Rawkicks 2’ shows Jason’s rough and ready sampling style in action. A seemingly simple track, but one which has that special something which guarantees to keep people on the floor moving for its duration. ‘Cut B’ contrasts this nicely, being a much cleaner production with tight drum programming and synth work. That said, it still has the classic JG atmosphere we love. Closing out the first half of the album, ‘Definition’ slows the pace ever so slightly, with its eternal pad structure that builds up the track’s momentum into something very mellow and deep.Bringing in the second half of ‘Skylax’, ‘John Blue’ takes things back a notch further. A deeper tune, yet one that shows off an uncharacteristically punchy bass hit from Jason. ‘Last Night’ is a track more reminiscent of Jason’s first 'Lost Cuts' EP on Wax Classic, sounding as if it had been freshly taken off an old tape with its sample-led beat and background hiss. The last four tracks of the album see a return to the ‘Mastercuts’ and ‘Lovedits’ series which fans will recognize from the ‘Lost Cuts’ records, with ‘Lovedits 7’ and ‘Mastercut 5’ respectively. The former is a laid back female vocal edit with the entire suite of signature JG touches while the latter is a garage house hit more crafted for the club. ‘BB’ brings the album to a close, twisting a disco/funksample over a pallet of drums and effects for the near six-minute duration of the track.All in all, this is the perfect follow up to Jason’s debut album ‘313.4.Ever’, with tracks for both the club and home listening. If you happened to miss the first album back in 2012, don’t forget that now you have the chance to grab it in a special double pack with ‘Skylax’ on CD!So, needless to say, this timeless record is a must purchase for all collectors and DJs out there

Always hard at work unearthing interesting new projects or forgotten old gems, Opilec Music is now serving up a retrospective compilation of highly esteemed Chicago producer Jordan Field's best work from 1986 - 1991. Field has been active now for some thirty years (on labels like Rush Hour, Headphoniq and Mo Wax) but his best work was arguably done in his first decade or so. Now Opilec boss I-Robots has been given access to a collection of Field's early recordings and has selected, compiled & conceived this project himself. It will be presented as a full-length album but will also arrive in a few select EP parts, with this being the first one. Says Jordan about the project "This album is one of my most important works to date, as it contains recordings captured during a very special moment in my life circa 1986-1991. At this point I had much knowledge about DJ culture and the art form of house music, I was a product of my environment. I was young, but I had already experienced so much in my first 5 years of absorbing it all! While that may not seem like a lot of time, you have to understand House Music was not even a decade old at this point. What's important for me to explain is I had already gone through my baby steps by the time I was recording the trax that are on this album. This is the point where I was at the next level, chapter 2." Up first is the classic jack of 'That's How It Is' with its perfectly analogue synths and drums conjuring a warm, human and organic mood. Acid lines and slapping percussion all interact and ooze Chicago house authenticity. ‘The Answer' is a much rawer and more dishevelled sounding affair with lumpy, rough hewn drums and crisscrossing percussion that screams to be played loud in a warehouse. 'Future Thought's' is alive with the sound of classic Roland cowbells and shuffling drums. It's deep and mystic and sounds as if it's come from somewhere far off in deepest darkest space. Finally, 'Rhythm of Romance' gets a little sleazy with its tight loops, thumping kick drums and mechanical metal hooks. They sound all out of control but are off set by some seriously sombre chords in the latter half. Often imitated but never bettered, this is the true sound of Chicago house music in all its forms from one of its finest sons.

Taken from a mysterious Acetate cut by Derrick May in 1987 this release was originally penned for KMS offshoot Pheerce Citi. Both these sides were later released - 'The Darkside' = as 'A Relic' (by Longer Than Long ago) and 'Tic Tic Tic' was later released on the limited edition compilation as Music Institute 20th Anniversary as 'Untitled'. Both tracks are however, very hard to get on vinyl and have now been re issued as loud 45rpm pressings in Pheerce Citi artwork and remastered for 2014. 300 copies of this release were released in different artwork at Phonica Records as part of RSD 2014 which sold out in a week...

Southern California producer Jeffrey Brodsky's "I'll Be Strong" is the latest EP to appear on San Francisco based label Public Release. Its comprised of four tracks, with Brodsky's original joined by three wide ranging remixes, which complement its energetic feeling with deeper material aimed at late nights and early mornings. The title cut is a prime time house number, which recalls the genre's underground roots through spiralling arpeggios, tweaked-up vocals, and chiming organs. But this isn't just some nostalgic memory, instead Brodsky gives the track some modern muscle via a clean production aesthetic and energetic structure, that locks the vibe in a more contemporary direction. Mark E provides the first remix -- it's a move towards the hypnotic, with tribal drums and cascading bells that ought to provide a worthy complement to late night epiphanies, and memorably euphoric moments spent under the mirror ball. Then comes Richard Sen's take, which runs the whole thing through a filter of '80s-style acid house, with a big raw 303 bassline and dubby vocals accented with delays. The final remix duties fall on Mike Simonetti, whose version teases out the song's atmospheric space through tight, heavy drum programming and monolithic washes of synthesizer.

After celebrating the 20th catalogue number with an extensive compilation, Uncanny Valley continues with serious business in the form of Break SL's long awaited new EP. On "Atlantic Ocean Road" the Uncanny Valley regular returns in top form and with 4 tracks that come across like an acoustic showroom of everything that makes Break SL's timeless House music so special. The title track is a perfect example of his sophisticated drumming combined with catchy and dreamy synth work. As the name implies, "Atlantic Ocean Road" feels like the soundtrack to one's favourite road trip memories. "FM 4 Life" gets alive with jazzy beats, clever sampling and driving yet muddled bass lines. "Trocadero" is based on a field recording which Break SL brought home from Paris. Here again, Break SL masterfully combines slightly melancholic vibes with funky rhythmic elements. The record is finished in style with one of those tunes that dancers won't get out of their head even on their way home from the club. On "Malstrom", cheerful synths play beautiful melodies over a dark and groovy bass and the jacking drumming is full of ideas that are subtle but essential. The cover artwork comes courtesy of David Rost from Dresden. With his tape rendering concept he produced a visual analogy to Break SL's music and the EP's title. Stay tuned for a video that will document the creation process.

When Chateau Flight was approached to participate to this live project of covers of Terry Riley, together with Le Cabaret Contemporain, they immediatly said yes. It was the occasion to play great music from a majeur influence of them, and also to play it live with some great musicians. The live experience went so great that they decided to go in the mythical Vogue studio (around Paris), to record it. The idea was to have a full live take, no edits, to capture the magic of the improvisation. Cabaret contemporain is 2 prepared double basses, 1 drummer, 1 guitar player, 1 prepared piano. Chateau Flight(I:Cube and Gilb-R) providing the electronics sounds and the mixdown Here is the result.

Boogie-down cosmic funk from late-seventies Nigeria — like full-throttle Roy Ayers, at his most brilliant. Jimi Lee Adams packs his inner Hendrix off to Funky Town; the horns are the horniest; Mona runs it all down with an irresistible West African tilt. Afro-jazz scorchers, both sides. Breaking through with The Sunflowers in Nigeria's late-sixties soul explosion, Mona moved to the US after the group's equipment was destroyed in a car accident. There she was active in the new jazz scene, before returning home towards the end of the seventies, and forming The Sensationals with guitarist Jimi Lee Adams. An unsung pioneer, Mona was Nigeria's first female pop bandleader. Fifth in the series: all remastered at Abbey Road, cut at D&M, pressed at Pallas; and presented with a 24" by 12" full-colour poster.
