The White Man & The Arab return with their fifth release, The Exchange EP, further developing the sound that's made their previous four outings so alluring.Informed by a range of cues that reflect the pairs' influences, you can sense dub, ambient, minimal, a love for eerie melodies and raw deepness permeating from this EP’s start to finish. The A side kicks off with "On The Floor" - a nod to the fact that the whole EP was crafted literally on the floor (the studio was 'in transition') - signals what awaits the listener for the duration of the EP. Moody pads, slowly progressing melodies and their signature syncopated drum patterns. "People Say" follows next, instantly shifting up a gear - this is a solid dancefloor shaker with a simple but seriously effective bassline that will be lodged in your brain, a sharp hi-hat & clap combo and a disembodied, haunting vocal that chants along to the beat. Flip the record over for the title track - "The Exchange" - a reverb-drenched ethereal club cut that gets it's unstoppable sense of motion from the irresistible percussion workout, while the squelchy acid line adds that extra rawness. Rounding off the EP "Sideways" signals a distinct nod to Detroit. No homage in sight though - it's been carefully distilled via their own signature processes resulting in a somewhat emotional, dubbed out track - perfect supplement for when you're starting to land back to earth...

The White Man & The Arab's third outing since 2013's 'Misanthropy EP' is finally here. 'Hashashin' has clearly been worth the wait. Four strictly analog jams that have been fine tuned to deliver musical bliss straight to your dome. From the opening track of 'Vanished' the natural progression from the previous two releases is clear to see. Confident percussion patterns, woozy strings and an otherworldly synth melody that lift's the track to a whole other level, bold yet equally subtle. Following is the title track of the EP, 'Hashashin', which takes a slightly more mellower route. Darker, dubbier, and at times abstract and meandering. The signature percussive interplay still there at play, while the melodies are more understated, providing a mood rather than something to hum along to. 'The Tribe' opens up the B-side and instantly harnesses primordial rhythms; intricate polyrhythmic patterns, almost alien like soundscapes, conjuring images of shamanistic rituals. Rounding off the release, 'Face' is the most prominent track connecting to the previous two EPs. A forward moving, gradually expanding rhythm whose subtle mood is punctuated by an intensifying synth line that gives the track an extra dimension.

The White Man & The Arab – BLM & Soho decide to revisit the partnership that gave us “Future Moves EP”. The resulting second EP – “Misanthropy” – while roughly following the same mood of their first release, shows the two producers becoming more attuned to each other’s strengths and sounding more and more like one well-oiled unit. Clocking in at around 20 minute mark, we’re treated to three cuts of pure deep bliss, each with its own distinct flavour. Opening cut “Numbers” works as a statement of intent for the EP; it instantly draws you into a deep, pad-infused world complete with intricate percussive patterns and a dream like synth line that will have you hooked. The almost broken drum beat carries the whole thing forward, the breakdown is euphoric and right then all the little details become clear. Over on the flip, “Thinking of You” is one of those tracks that can work equally well, early in a set or really late. A lush string-led melody combined with the obligatory vocal sample, gives way to a stripped down arrangement that emphasizes all the small bits that you hadn't paid attention to before. Rounding off the EP is “Acid”; starting off with a thumping kick drum and not much else, you’re soon given a glimpse of the familiar 303 squelch that does just enough to tease you, letting you know you’re in for a ride. It’s all shaky percussion, airy pads and a great acid line that carries the whole track; a definite 'what the fuck is going on?' moment!
