Echocord welcomes the return of STL this May with the ‘Take Off Music’ EP, comprised of three murky, dubbed out cuts from the acclaimed German producer. Stephan Laubner, better known as STL has long been one of the most respected producers in the underground electronic music scene. Racking up releases on the likes of Smallville, Perlon, Echospace [Detroit], his own Something and of course Echocord where he returns here. ‘Fluxxy’ leads on the package, embracing STL’s signature style via, dusty analogue drums, choppy dub stabs, penetrating low end flutters and airy atmospherics before ‘Dub Plus’ lays focus on a stripped-back, perfectly balanced drum groove, hazy field recordings and bubbling chord delays and bell chime synths. ‘Magic Thing’ then rounds out the release, fusing fm synth melodies and gritty bass stab sequences with thunderous subs and Laubner’s robust rhythmic style. Stephan Laubner, better known to most as simply as STL is highly regarded for his unique twist on dubbed out house and techno sounds and has been responsible for some underground anthems such as the lauded ‘Silent State’ on Smallville Records and other material on the likes of Perlon, Echospace [Detroit] and ofcourse his own Something imprint. Here though we see him returning to Echocord following 2015’s ‘Message Of Sound’ Part 1 & 2 EP’s with yet more mind- altering murky cuts. ‘Lost Harbour’ leads on the package with textural field recordings, crunchy distorted rhythms and an amalgamation of snaking bass, synth and piano lines, intertwining and unfolding throughout. ‘Mr Sinister’ switches the vibes over to menacing bass swells, fluttering subs, gritty percussion and an underlying tension before ‘Sensimilla’ edges into more ethereal territory with spiralling dub chords, shuffled hats and winding atmospherics. Solar Phenomena welcomes singular rhythm master STL for a new EP that offers four fantastic tracks of dubby house. It is the label's fourth release and finds the Something label boss in a typically inventive mood. First track 'Spy vs Spy' opens things with shuffling drum loops and eerie synth details that hypnotises over seven minutes. 'Atomsmasha' has wooden hits and rough shakers peppering a soft, imperfect groove as awkward chords bring an unhinged edge to the mix. On the flip, 'Summer Breeze & Brotherhood' has loose keys doing an off kilter dance over STL's trademark low-key drums where 'Freebird' zones you out with long held chords and detuned keys as cloudy, dusty kicks bring a barely-there groove deep down low. You know what to get from STL by now, but at the same time you can never get enough. More

Sebastian Eduardo burst onto the scene in 2016 with a fine debut EP entitled 'Ultima Necat', now comes his second EP, this time released in The Untold Stories Protagonist Series. Dedicated to the legendary poet Hanshan, the EP is a deep and personal offering, it keeps to the style which made his debut so appreciated: positively charged, quirky and enlivening micro house, but this time there's a deeper personal dimension to the tracks, a nice development and another welcome offering from the young Swiss producer.

The Untold Stories label continues in cosmic vibe with their PRO series single entitled Spok, by Franco Cinelli. The Bside features a remix by fellow Argentine and emerging talent Nektar Agu. The two artists first collaborated earlier in the year with Franco Cinelli doing a remix of Nektar Agu's track Rainy Days, which received support from Ricardo Villalobos. Now continuing in fine form Nektar Agu returns the favour with a superb remix of Franco's 14 minute atmospheric dance floor filler, developing it joyously, with intricate percussion and an altogether enlivening mood filled with Maasai voices which gives the remix a very different and earthly tribal spin in comparison to the more cosmic aura of the original Spok. Live long and prosper! More

The fifth release of The Untold Stories Protagonist series sees Archipel boss Pheek offer up an EP of three original works. The Aside begins with Lonely Wolf, an awesome work of rousing energy set amidst a very spiritual calm, this dextrous combination, makes for a superb track perfect for enlivening spirits. The second track, Father, continues with a similar momentum, the vibe this time beginning primal and developing into the celestial. The Bside is with filled with a 16 minute extended work filled with distinct and timely percussion, a more contemplative work, filled with warmth and cosmic consideration. A stellar EP by Pheek, whose releases in 2016 have been particularly impressive, this perhaps the pinnacle.

The Untold Stories returns with another double vinyl collection, this time divided into two chapters: Chapter III and Chapter IV. All begins with an extended work by Denis Kaznacheev. Then tracks by Vlad Caia and Kaitaro complete the first record. The second record, Chapter IV, begins with a warm and laid-back work by Ivan Lopez, followed by a distinct Andrey Zots remix. The final side, begins with a track both playful and eccentric by Zefzeed, and the chapter is complete with an ethereal lightness from Verrina & Ventura. So as a collection, 3 darker moodier tracks on the black Chapter III record, and four lighter tracks on the transparent yellow record of Chapter IV, make for another exciting release from The Untold Stories More

The Untold Stories: Protagonist Series. Records dedicated to the stories of some venerable but unsung historical figures. The first of the Protagonist Series was created by Sil, and gives a glimpse into the spirit of the first such figure: Tadeush Konrad. Sil, the pseudonym of Kirill Sylantev, who is more widely known for his work in the duo Easy Changes, now begins solo productions. For the UNTLDPRO series his work dedicated to Tadeush Konrad is of confident vibe, with much swing and rich with soulful flashes from times past. This work is then remixed by Ztrl and Hubble. First comes the Ztrl remix, with energetic bass and a wealth of tones interrelating to great hypnotic effect. Then on the B-side Hubble's remix, an extended work, a floating journey of warm organic sounds, concludes the story and the spirit of Tadeush Konrad.
