Vox low come in hard, slow and dark on a new 3 tracker for Correspondant. The Pyschedlic Parisian duo display various iterations of left field menace, ranging from Glam Rock on “The Hunt”, Electro Disco on “Some Words of Faith, and pitched down Acid on “I am a Strange Machine Sometimes”, but all with the signature analogue pulse which Correspondant is famed for presenting.

It grabs you and turns you round. Resistance is futile. Fall into it gleefully because the darkness has been lit, there is a chill in the air and you feel as taut as a bow. Laurent Pastor and Marc Lapeyre (FKclub) are responsible for Décadanse where “Ice doesn’t hurt anymore” according to the whisper in the title track. The label head was convinced by his partner to start production in a basement studio to create a sound using guitars and synthesisers. The coming together of these 2 strong (id)entities has culminated in an EP which is cinematic (Train in Vein, Easy Drive), distinguished post-punk (Plan B) and electronic (Décadanse). And when Susuma Makai ventures into the meandering “Ruin”, he delivers a mind-blowing version.

Fkclub Aka Marc Lapeyre did it again with the Illuminati EP on Astrolab. Mixing modern synth and old school analog sounds to create a dirty, catchy and powerful track : Illuminati. Volta is new wav-ish with its dark synth bass and voice, like Depeche Mode on magic mushrooms. Pilooski’s remix of Illuminati brings the track to a point of dissonance and trippy ARP, where the man show us one more time what a flair he has for it.

French label ASTRO LAB RECORDINGS has been around for 6 years, releasing vinyls, and now introduces its first compilation on 2CD. As a turning point in its history, the label had to put together a special and exclusive selection, putting forward all its beloved inspirations and influences. This is how the TREASURE HUNTING compilation was crafted. The eighteen tracks on the record are mostly unreleased and composed by fellow artist friends, all part of the ASTRO LAB adventure since the beginning : Andrew Weatherall, Kaos or Timothy J Fairplay… to name a few.
