Christian Löffler is co-founder of Ki Records and well known for his intense, deep moving sound with melancholic undertones. He started to play music at the age of 14. But living in a secluded region near the Baltic Sea, without a musical surrounding, he had to teach himself the essentials of making electronic music. After several stunning releases for Ki and Orphanear, the imprint of Dial's co-founder Pawel, his debut 'A Forest' is now being released through Ki. His music signifies an upward curve of rising intensity from which everything non-essential drops away. Whereat essential is meant in the sense of introspective. If the kick drum thuds along reasonably unassuming in the beginning of a track, it is already withdrawn into itself. Dancing, sure, but with one foot in a dream.

"Aspen" is the name of Christian Loeffler's single before his debut album on Ki called "A Forest". The name of the single is not to be misunderstood as a dedication to the ski resort in Colorado. It's rather a dedication to Christian Loeffler's home region in the north of Germany. Loeffler walked out into the forests near Darss, to take field recordings of the trees that commonly grow in that area, which are called "Aspen". The landscape near Darss is characterized by signs of storm and rough sea climate, but is also considered as a popular health resort in Germany. The tracks on "Aspen" create this contrary atmosphere: Noise and silence, destruction and peacefulness, electronic sounds and traditional instruments unite in harmony. The Cover Artwork for "Aspen" was taken by Christian Loeffler himself in the Forests of Darss.

Following on from their recent album on Italian imprint Just This, Hunter/Game present the Silence Remixes out June 7th, featuring contributions from Radio Slave, Inland and Jamaica Suk amongst others. Silence is a spiralling voyage into the depths of blissful ambience and meditative techno from Milan-based duo Hunter/Game. Arriving after a series of acclaimed EPs on the same label, it is an aesthetic statement of intent, carving out serene spaces of melancholy and upliftment. For the remixes EP, a carefully chosen selection of artists provide varying interpretations of stand-out tracks from the album. Radio Slave turns ‘Dead Soul’ into a marching ground of melodic techno, whilst Inland breathes robotic life into ‘Crashed Sounds’ and Wrong Assessment levitate ‘Fragments’ over murky waters. Closing off the vinyl is Jamaica Suk’s ominous restructuring of ‘Reaction’. Owners of the digital release will receive three further remixes. Vessels turns ‘Evolution’ into a broken dreamscape of stepping percussion, whilst Just This affiliate Scissors forges a stripped back, tripped out version of ‘Memories’. Also featured digitally is a second version of Jamaica Suk’s ‘Reaction’ remix.

Milan based collective Just This return with two VA releases to continue their ‘Broken Promises’ series. With the aim of documenting the progression of cultural movements, the label have pursued underground material since 2010. Broken Promises Part 3 and Part 4 are due for release on 1st December and 8th December respectively, and each feature four new tracks channelling refined techno with minimalist, ambient sentiments. Hunter/Game open Part 3 with ‘Distance’, a meditative journey through ambient textures using expansive synths and vast acoustics. Next, Architectural brandishes 808 drums for a tense workout on ‘Electric Soul’. On the B-side, label co-owner Pisetzky explores the darker side of minimal on ‘Anterial’, whilst Altman plays with moody bass and ricocheting percussion on ‘Shapes’. Part 4 opens with a shuffling rhythmic framework on Inland’s ‘Aechmea’, followed by ‘Zona’, a pointillist groove by Ben Gibson, aka one half of the collaborative project Dyad. On My Flower’s ‘Kundal’, a cyclical melody wanders through eerie acoustics whilst Hiver navigates a broken beat framework with glitchy distortions and dub echoes on ‘Stellar Parallax Landing’.

The next EP on Just This comes from Octual, an established figure on the Dutch underground techno circuit. His 3rd release to date is an exploration into melody and beat composition – a journey through uncharted territory. “Jupiter’s moon” presents a fleeting view of different landscapes - claps and hi-hats depict the lights and shadows of a sublunary word. “Untold Places” reaches an otherworldly place where rhythm and metre counteract each other and obscure sounds sway us in and out of reality. Amsterdam based electronic pioneer Sterac provides two remixes, analysing and repurposing the molecular details of Octual’s productions. His first rework of ‘Jupiter’s Moon’ provides a stunning and heartfelt view, exploring the intersection of each artist’s approach. For the dub version he reveals a darker sentiment, creating a dancefloor oriented secret weapon.

After releasing their debut full length Album on Kompakt last year, Hunter/Game return to Just This with another immersive offering. On the ‚Dead Soul EP’ the duo continue to refine their expressive yet subtly arranged sound. The title track unfolds slowly, sculpting the melody, texture and suspense. Joey Anderson’s take on 'Dead Soul' is airy and atmospheric without losing it’s pulsing flow. ‚Isolation’ covers a broad spectrum and is filled with contrasts in which an intense bass interacts with a delicate and breathy melody. Balance is key to Hunter/Game’s music and this EP is no exception.

Primal is an Icelandic electronic music producer and Dj based in Copenhagen. The past few years, Primal has been involved with an electronic music project by the name of Kúra, featuring the Icelandic singer Fanney Osk. Kúra, which became a widely recognized electronic act in northern Europe, offered an opportunity to explore new areas, ideas and genres. He eventually got introduced to the underground techno society by Just This crew. Primal was then inspired to evolve his soundscape in new directions, resulting in a previously unexplored, darker universe with hypnotizing melancholic rhythms and heavy bass-lines. The man behind Primal, Brynjar Bjarnfoss, was born in Reykjavík, Iceland where spent his early childhood years. Since moving to Copenhagen at an early age, the music was always on the agenda. As a young adult he quickly got recognition in the Copenhagen underground electronic scene. He rapidly became a re-occurring act at various well renowned events, such as; Roskilde Festival, Distortion, Stella Polaris, STRØM and numerous clubs across Europe. He is currently featured as a newly implemented act of the Milano based Just This movement, and has recently cofounded the Just This record label.
