You might know Chrissy as his former CHRISSY MURDERBOT alias. You might know Chrissy as co-founder and co-bossman of NITE OWL DINER with ALEX BURKAT. You might know him as a resident of the legendary SMART BAR in Chicago. You might know him as CHRIS E. PANTS, house producer extrodinaire. What you probably do not know is that Chrissy is a walking Disco encyclopedia. With this, the first in a series of edits done under the LA MISSION banner, CHRISSY has perfectly embodied our need to connect with the past and examine and retain the history of dance music, while relating it to our present and future community. Don’t think this makes the record boring. Far from it, Chrissy’s year of edits were chock full of the best of the best of the bootyshakingtastic best of lost and classic songs made even better. “THE RIGHT TO DANCE WITH SOMEBODY” is a high energy filtered disco punch to the face, pushing people into a St. Vitus Dance of ecstatic reverie. On the flip, “ANOTHER WORKOUT” is the sultry, darkroom version of a rock and synth inflected jazzercise class. We at La Mission couldn’t be more excited about this. While you dance, think. Think about who chooses how/where/with whom/when you are allowed to dance. And fight for that right.

A1 Chrissy - You Don't Have To Worry

B1 Chrissy - All These Dreams
B2 Chrissy - If I Could
Release Note:
Party-starter Chrissy joins the Shall Not Fade family with a 4-track serotonin hit which draws on influences from his San Franciscan heritage, as well as those closer to home in the UK.
'You Don't Have To Worry' encompasses this fusion, with anthemic piano chords and uplifting vocals that enliven a swung breaks instrumental. 'Assure Us There's A Heaven' and 'If I Could' also come with plenty of swing, borrowing tropes from UK Funky to show house at its most danceable, whilst 'All These Dreams' is a modern take on old school vocal house. For Hooversound’s ninth release, SHERELLE and NAINA welcome San Francisco-based DJ and producer Chrissy to the family for the label’s debut album release. Coming out on the 27th October, ‘Physical Release’ blends elements of ravey techno, house, and jungle that have run through his previous work. The final result is an exploration of what our scene’s physical spaces mean and how they feed into themes of politics, family, connection and joy. Speaking about the album Chrissy says, ??"These songs were inspired by our scene's physical spaces: the warehouses, clubs, record stores, late night cafes, lofts, and friends' living rooms that let us connect to each other, experience the joy and wonder of dance music culture, and find our family. I've seen these spaces gradually decimated by cops, property developers, cynical corporate brand partners, irresponsible promoters, and a global pandemic. The end result is a dance music culture that feels more online and disconnected, culminating in over a year without any physically shared spaces. Encouragingly, I've seen many in our community finally acknowledge a painful reality: our scene has failed to live up to its utopian ideals, and to protect, value, and uplift all of our peers. No matter how fondly we remember our first raves, the culture was and is broken, and it's our job to fix it. So while this album may feel like a paean to a bygone era, it is more a reflection of optimism about the future: a hope that we can rebuild our scene and our communal physical spaces with better priorities and better values, so that everybody can experience the euphoria, joy, transcendence, and physical release of the dancefloor." The album opens with a quote from artist, author, and transgender activist Edie Fake, who also designed the artwork for ‘Physical Release’. A fellow Chicago-to-California transplant, Edie’s previous work has dealt largely with physical spaces, including historical queer nightlife spaces.

Chrissy's Cool Ranch label is back with another pair of house stormers backed by two fantastic remixes.
'Clap Yr Hands' channels '90s speed garage vibes via Chicago disco house, and 'Give U XTC' is a dark drummy bass workout with a chopped-up vocal. Rising star Baronhawk Poitier (Honey Soundsystem Records, The NeedlExchange) and Glasgow-based scene leader Nightwave (Dixon Avenue Basement Jams, Balkan Vinyl, Dext) both turn in amazing, dark, deconstructed remixes to round out the package.
Previous Cool Ranch releases have been supported by Honey Soundsystem, The Blessed Madonna, Tim Sweeney, Luke Solomon, Derrick Darter, Jimpster, Soul Clap, Project Pablo, Zernell, Danny Tenaglia, The Martinez Brothers, Alison Swing, Parris Mitchell, Shaun J Wright, DJ Deeon, Mark Farina, Jubilee, and more. Chrissy - Composition for Sample, Flexatone & Vibraslap
17 Steps present ‘New Atlantis’, a 5 track EP from versatile DJ, producer and dance music historian Chrissy. The EP takes its name from an unexpected source – a 17th century utopian novel of the same name by Sir Francis Bacon, depicting a future society in which science has become the ruling principle. It’s an inspiring idea for Chrissy – an antidote to the assault on truth and intellectualism led by climate change deniers, anti-vaxxers, flat earthers, creationists, unfit-for-office demagogues and the slow suffocation of fact-based journalism. ‘New Atlantis’ explores the utopian worldview implicit in early rave music, drawing on classic Chicago house, UK hardcore and Drexciyan electro. The result is a collection of jacking breaks and bass infused dance music washed with a bittersweet euphoria – celebrating and lamenting an era’s forgotten optimism.A1. In Paradise, A2. We’re excited to be joined by one of the most versatile and knowledgeable DJ producers on the planet. Hailing from Chicago, Chrissy’s expertise knows no bounds and stylistically there’s few hats he won’t don, with productions appearing on labels as diverse as Planet Mu, Classic and Hypercolour to name a few. For his debut on Super Rhythm Trax his wings remain characteristically unclipped as the tone veers from the massive Acid wall of ’Truth Bomb’ (built upon an acappella from a house legend) through the ghostly dubbed out ‘Stumble’ to the anthemic house of ‘We’re Movin’ before finally resting on the 21st century New Beat of ’24 Hour Puppy People’ .
’Truth Bomb’ is exclusive to the Vinyl only. Digital versions will contain a version with different vocals. More

We here at L A MISSION like to whip out our politics in public. We kinda get off on it. And so we're especially excited to slip you B EANER' s first solo outing on the label . From track titles to sound samples to magazine articles to packaging, this record / magazine / performance package highlights im/migration, the brown experience, and stripped identity. La Mission knows from brown. The collective is run by a crew of devastatingly handsome deviants whose racial identity is, well...it's complicated. We've lived our lives being neither white enough nor brown enough to fit neatly into racial categories. And so we took some time out from our usual exploits (like our "MultiDirectional Playground Tire Swinging" orgies and Elected Candidate/Dead Pig/HungerGames slashfic) to focus on brownness. People started talking about "cultural appropriation" when Miley Cyrus started twerking. We couldn't throw shade fast enough. But cooptation and exotification runs rampant in all genres of music-including dance music. We here at La Mission feel pretty fucking awkward about it. We've seen queerofcolor culture turned into whitedudebro business ventures. And as brown folks with stripped and fragmented identities, we're never sure of what culture is ours to use and abuse, anyway. Can we honor our own roots if they're messy and broken? When we're "inspired" by the music of other cultural groups, is that solidarity or stealing? Nothing we have is whole. We can only work with the fragments we have at hand, well aware that there's unfinished business… BLACKMOUTH is the live version of the classic soul/disco sampling house tune. Take the work o f o t h e r s w h o c a m e b e f o r e y o u a n d t u r n i t i n t o a d a n c e a b l e j a m . G O T B L U E S ? u s e s t h e w o r k o f a b l i n d 1930s blues bongo player to form a weirdo repetitive rhythm tool: another example of using a forgotten artist for one's own gain. The titular song, COOPTED & EXOTICIZED plays on the classic preacher vocal track. All these sure to get get get you up and get down, without thinking about the origins of these mostly pastiche grooves.

Lim. to 250 copies. The son of a church organist, Jonathan “J Choirboy” Bishopstone began his musical education in the early 1990s at the supple age of three, learning both recorder and piano simultaneously. By the age of 13, he was already giving regular recitals in his hometown of Lewes in rural East Sussex. Before long, he was awarded a music scholarship at Eton College, where he joined the college choir. With a solid foundation in the Baroque, Classical and Romantic styles, he started to focus his attention on twentieth century classical music, before making the logical transition to house and techno in his final year at Eton. Just as with his classical education, he began studying the greats of the UK rave scene, artists such as Gordon “The Count” Cummins, John “Acid” Haigh and Graham Young, before moving further afield to international artists such as the legendary Michael Brown. This debut EP is produced with clear references to J Choirboy’s influences, from the majestic cantatas of Bach to the broken rhythmic styles of the early UK rave scene, and even features his own father’s organ playing on the first track “Fantazia”.

Forget vulture discogs sellers. After seeing this going for upwards of 50 Euros, LA MISSION decided to repress their first record in limited quantities for Record Store Day at OYE Records. Now, additional copies ordered, the repress will move beyond. DeWalta's Remix of Beaner has been huge with the arpiar crew (notably coming to wider attention on their New Years Eve recording of the closing of Arma17 in Moscow). Elements of Jazz run throughout, with the original 'Louis Belson' containing almost exclusively samples from a live recording of the drummer and Skirtchaser contribution 'Join La Mission' holding down a loose downtempo groove with a relevant extended sample of the most famous monologue from the 70s classic movie, Network.
