Infamously sampled by Beyonce for her ‘Crazy In Love’ hit, ‘Are You My Woman (Tell Me So)’ is a huge slice of soulful, funk gold. Marrying Eugene Record’s falsetto alongside Creadel "Red" Jones' animated bass tones it screams flash, feel-good, funk - none more so than when the collective combine for those delectable vocal harmonies. Woven in behind - a heavy bassline, masterful drumming and that crazed horn section, creating a certified recipe for deep-seated desire.
The flip see’s the sumptuous ‘Stoned Out Of My Mind’ demonstrating, once again, Record’s magical falsetto, delivered in such a personal way you’ll leave thinking you’re the one who’s gone messed up his mind. Enhanced even further by the dazzling string and horn sections and those choice group harmonies, it’s got a psychedelic tinge to it that serves its namesake all too well.

They’re young and tough – and especially wonderful too – easily one of the most compelling harmony soul groups to ever hail from the Windy City! The set’s a Chicago soul gem from the early 70s – recorded with a laidback, slightly tripped-out vibe that’s different than the tighter styles of other groups from the same scene – definitely righteous at points, with some of the superbad modes you might hear from an east coast lineup like The Delfonics or Soul Generation, especially when they were trying to get a bit more conscious in their message. Arrangements are great – handled by Tom Tom Washington, Eugene Record, and Cliff Davis – very much at the best Brunswick mode, but again with a deeper sort of vibe too. The title cut’s a monster, and a very fitting follow-up to their earlier “Sly, Slick, & Wicked” track – and the album features 2 versions (vocal and instrumental) of a cut called “This Is The Lost Generation”, a very righteous soul groove with a heavy production tip. Re mastered and re released for 2015 in conjunction with Brunswick. Too legit to quit.

Glorious re issue of this classic soul LP from the Brunswick vaults. Impossible to find on vinyl (£170+ on discogs) this album gets its first ever vinyl re issue since its original release in 1976. Fully re mastered for 2015 and released officially in conjunction with Brunswick Records in its original artwork.
