Based in Berlin, Slow Life is a multidisciplinary collective of Spanish and Italian creatives led by percussionist Sergio Moreira. His production first caught the ears of Phonica via a trilogy of highly impressive 12”s on the group’s Slow Life label, all of which were instant hits and flew out the shop. For this release, Moreira teams up with Xinner for three of the EP’s four tracks and the results are a spellbinding journey through deep, hypnotic Techno, broken beats and submerged ambience. The artwork is once again by acclaimed visual artist Jack Featherstone, the designer of a number of sleeves for Border Community, Electric Minds, Warm and of course, Phonica.

al zanders - No Title
Al Zanders makes his debut on Phonica’s main label after a sold-out release on sister label Karakul and also Wolf Music, Blind Jack’s Journey and his own AZ label. The double A-side kicks off with ‘There is Rhythm’, a percussive house anthem with plenty of momemtum, a tom-tom bassline and ‘rhythm’ vocal samples and that’s even before the sun-soaked pads and euphoric synth stabs come in.
On the flip, ‘Song About A Dream’ is far more of a collage - made of unconnected genres and styles, inspired by DJ Shadow - all tied together with the common theme of dreams. Shimmering astral keys and psychedelic guitar feature heavily alongside a vocalist and full choir; its a unique combination of different parts that show Al Zanders’ versatility - it really doesn’t sound like anything else

Following on from last years exceptional ‘Obsession EP’ from Art Crime is a budding young talent by the name of Will Lister. Originally from Lyme Regis, Will moved up to London to attend Goldsmiths University and in his spare time he helps us out behind the counter here at the shop. When he’s not here at the shop you can also hear him playing records on his Balamii Radio Show or his monthly club night, ‘The Aten’. ‘The Phantom EP’ is his production debut and we’re extremely happy to be putting it out on our main imprint. The title track opens up the EP with heavily reverbed pads, echoed claps, crunchy percussion and repetitive synth stabs that all work together to create spaced-out atmosphere that’s full of twist and turns. Flipping over to the B-side, ‘After The Light’ picks up the pace with a driving high-hat rhythm and full-bodied kicks that underpin warm piano keys and smooth synth lines. ‘Agency’ closes proceedings by turning up the intensity to full with a masterclass in building tension.

art crime - Rise Fall Run
Russia’s Art Crime seemingly came out of nowhere with his first record and it blew us all away at Phonica. Lead track ‘Release’ was pure nineties house nostalgia, a huge reverbed piano over skipping drums that became an instant shop classic. We just couldn’t get it out of our heads! Needless to say we reached out to Art Crime instantly, hoping to lure another 12” of material from him and with the ‘Obsession EP’ we are blown away with the results. Art Crime has delivered another anthemic record, four tracks of melancholic house music, sounding both of the past and future. The title track ‘Obsession’ is another massive piano laden House beauty, permeated with shim- mering synth stabs. Up next is ‘Show Interest’, with its almost-oriental synth melody glowing over a cold arpeggiated electro pulse. On the flip, ‘Eye Contact’s glacial pads and piano are followed by ‘Rise Fall Run’, the most restrained track of the set, an etheral journey through the clouds.

DJ Kaos & Loudtone - Buffalo Dub
Phonica unveil the third in a series of three 12" samplers featuring a selection of tracks from their new compilation 'Ten Years Of Phonica'. As a long-time supporter of Phonica, Mr. G was a natural choice for the compilation and his contribution is yet another stone-cold Colin classic, named after his preferred day for record shopping no less! Ol of Faces Records is up next with the exceptional house/garage hybrid 'AMC Edit'. On the other side, Lady Blacktronika starts things off with the deep and wonderful 'Gods And Planets', one of her strongest productions to date. Finally, DJ Kaos teams up with Loudtone for their 'Buffalo Dub', an old-school inspired house gem aimed at the dancefloors of today. Phonica Records was established in September 2003 and set up shop in Soho, London, adding to the high concentration of independent records stores that inhabited the area. Founders; Simon Rigg, Heidi Vanden Amstel and Tom Relleen joined The Vinyl Factory with the aim of creating an exciting outlet for innovative dance music, traversing all sub-genres and cultures. Over the past decade the emporium has developed into a well-respected destination for DJs and enthusiasts, and has subsequently become a bustling hive of conversation and inspiration as part of a wider community of music lovers. While trends and movements in music have grown and faded over these years, Phonica has always remained in a state of evolution. It is this openness to change alongside a commitment to it's original ethos and an enduring ardour for quality, cutting-edge sounds that has fuelled the shop's staying power. To celebrate reaching this milestone, Phonica Records have invited some of their favourite artists to produce a track for an eclectic yet cohesive compilation, which will hopefully go some way towards sonically unfolding the 'Ten Years of Phonica.'

Phonica unveil the second in a series of three 12" samplers featuring a selection of tracks from their new compilation 'Ten Years Of Phonica'. Phonica favourite Lo Shea kicks off Sampler number 2 with the ominous 'Home', a bassline-heavy house cut that continues on from his streak of high quality and inventive 12" releases on Seaghdha. Medlar and Red Rack'em join forces for the submerged 'Morning Light'. It's deep house in its truest form and here's hoping they continue to collaborate, because on the basis of this, they're onto something very special. Moiré is another producer Phonica have been hugely impressed with, his highly original 12"s for Werk Discs and Rush Hour blew us away and his contribution 'Solar Signs' doesn't disappoint. Cult producer STL rounds out the 12" with 'Freaky Fingers'. His distinctively twisted take on house and techno is in full effect on this one, whistles and all. As STL releases on labels other than Something or Smallville are a rarity, it's yet another coup for Phonica. Phonica Records was established in September 2003 and set up shop in Soho, London, adding to the high concentration of independent records stores that inhabited the area. Phonica unveil the first in a series of three 12" samplers featuring a selection of tracks from their new compilation 'Ten Years Of Phonica'. Tigersushi and Crowdspacer boss Joakim kicks off the first 12" with melancholic masterpiece 'EAHR'. A prolific and sonically diverse producer, his balearic-flavoured remixes over the years for the likes of Antena and Max Berlin shines through on this one. Up next is the enigmatic Panoram, a shop favourite since his brilliant 'Accents' 12" arrived back in 2012. The lysergic 'Alpha Marmara' hits all the right spots once again. On the b-side edit-masters and rare record connaisseurs Psychemagik contribute the string-laden 'Triumph Of The Gods', an ambitious Axelrod-esque modern funk gem. Finally, Alex Egan resurrects his work as The Draughtsman one last time with the previously unreleased track 'Fade To Green' - a deep, atmospheric house/techno cut recorded during the same 2010/11 sessions as his '1694 EP'. Phonica Records was established in September 2003 and set up shop in Soho, London, adding to the high concentration of independent records stores that inhabited the area. While trends and movements in music have grown and faded over these years, Phonica has always remained in a state of evolution. To celebrate reaching this milestone, Phonica Records have invited some of their favourite artists to produce a track for an eclectic yet cohesive compilation, which will hopefully go some way towards sonically unfolding the 'Ten Years of Phonica.' Split across three CDs or LPs, two discs feature previously unreleased material while the other presents a collection of tracks released on Phonica's own labels. Disc One begins with the legendary Joe Claussell whose track, 'Those Days Are Gone', seems like a statement of intent for this compilation; creative, modern house that honours it's roots. Henrik Schwarz is a firm Phonica favourite and has been a regular guest at the shop's parties. He follows on with a signature, driving, Teutonic house jam in true Schwarz style. John Morales, another renowned figure from the NY scene, graces us with his first original production in a spell; 'Sitting In The Dark' is an experienced producer affirming he's still got it. In Flagranti bring us 'Outsider House', in our opinion one of their best productions yet. Dropping the tempo ever so slightly, Raudive's epicly chuggy 'Health' is a slo-mo bass-heavy monster that will decimate dancefloors. The multifaceted Trevor Jackson pulls one out from the archives - an unreleased synth track that previously featured in his iMax exhibition 'RGBPM', now available for everyone to enjoy. 'Morning Light' is the outcome of a new collaboration - Red Rackem and Medlar become 'Redlar' and synthesize their bass-ier sides. Lo Shea has impressed with a string of solid releases in the last few years, the bass-heavy and shuffling "Home" is no different. Another relative newcomer is Moire, yet 'Solar Signs' shows skill beyond producing years. STL's forays outside of his own Something Records have previously been limited to tracks on Perlon and Smallville, so the inclusion of the aptly titled 'Freaky Fingers' is a genuine coup for Phonica Records. Concluding the first collection is Roman Flugel's 'Giant Talking Vegetables', which is as weird and wonderful as it's name suggests.I:Cube gives us 'Chemise Africaine', exhibiting a different side and clocking uncharacteristically low on the bpm scale. Juju & Jordash's 'Quneitre' follows a similar vein, staying dark, slow and moody with a cinematic feel. Head of the Tigersushi label, Joakim, delivers a track as anthemic as his Antena remix - an uplifting 9 minute sun-drenched odyssey. Massimiliano Pagliara dusts off his 303 for 'It's A Lately Thing', a squelchy analogue number. Legowelt's 'Lovecraftiannature' is signature Danny Wolfers, only rawer and even darker than usual. Discodromo arrive with the swirls and synths of 'Boi', while DJ Kaos' 'Buffalo Dub' works purely on it's old school charm. One of the most prolific UK producers of recent times, Mr G aka Colin McBean, hits the spot with 'My Thursdayz'. Russian wiz-kid OL keeps it playful with intricate and scurrying drum patterns, which are followed by Lady Blacktronika's 'Gods And Planets'. As the playlist winds down, it's back to cinematic soundscapes with a wonderful laid-back track from the talented Panoram, followed by the first ever original production from the mighty Psychemagik. The third and final part of the compilation showcases highlights from the last five years of Phonica Records releases. These include tracks by Midland, Sad City, North Lake and Four Tet. As well as Special Request as remixed by Kassem Mosse & Mix Mup, Sandro Perri remixed by Tom Croose and a Skudge remix of Iori. Two previously unreleased tracks come courtesy of current Phonica staff member, The Draughtsman, and also Steve Moore with his remix of Iori's 'Moon', commissioned especially for this compilation."

Following Lord Of The Isles' "Year Of the City EP" Phonica Records return with a solid 3 tracker from North Lake. "We've been fans of North Lake here at Phonica HQ ever since his Resista outing last year and his second EP on Sweatshop and contribution to the first Blank Slate release only reinforced our desire to release an EP from this talented producer." "Moonwalker" features three analog jams born out of live sessions - three beautiful synth cuts for home and club listening that instantly bring parallels to early Isolee material; melodic and heavy enough to whip up a frenzy on the dancefloor. "Marlborol Noir" kicks off proceedings, chugging away effortlessly with it's ascending and descending synth riffs, the spawn of a long imprpvised session in the studio. "Suomi Kutsuu" opens the b-side emphatically, a heavy galloping rhythm and an ascending synth riff dominating from the off. It's six minutes of pure analog battle gear. Rounding off the EP, title track "Moonwalker" is a pacy mix of arpeggiated synths, intricate drum programing and eerie melodies that intertwine perfectly with the bass-heavy syncopated kick drum.
