ashworth - Whatever Weather
Joe Ashworth has marked himself out as one to watch over the past year with a string of underground cuts on Waze & Odyssey’s Street Tracks label, notably his collaboration with Citizen, “Situation”. He brings his textured, melodic sound to Anjunadeep for the first time with debut release “Rebound / Whatever Weather”. On “Rebound” he showcases a nuanced approach, deftly blending strong techno influences with a delicate ear for melody. The twinkling, sometimes discordant keys that rise and fall throughout demonstrate an enviable maturity in Joe’s productions.
“Whatever Weather” is one for the dancefloor, revolving around an infectious bassline groove that rolls beneath crisp drums and more gorgeous flowing piano. More

Ashworth concentrates on the essence of solid techno in his first full EP for made of CONCRETE. Inspired by the main component of concrete itself, the material is intitled ‘Portland’ and consists of no less than four original tracks. “World” makes for a gentle introduction by opening with a soft melodic lead, swiftly changing the tempo after a few measures. We’re quickly immersed in a syncopated bassline peppered with whirring synths that harmonise with full scale piano cuts, the most intriguing earworm on the entire cut. On “Launch” the producer lays down hard hitting techno drums from the get-go, setting the foundation for a tense atmosphere. Ashworth’s signature move quickly ensues, as he manages to inject emotion through synths and piano pads into an otherwise tense and anxiety-ridden ambiance. Toning down the graveness of the previous tracks’ mood, ”Mineral” reveals a surrendering groove, with a stripped down, minimalist approach, where the melody is assembled with the help of industrial elements, emotive bleeps and electric glitches. Ashworth’s experimental edge is evident in the final track “Scatter” - the sub bass lead creates a morose atmosphere paired with low-key synths and mechanical loops. While the first two tracks showcase Ashworth’s ability to instill life into solemn techno soundscapes, the second half of the EP successfully exhibits his edgy experimental side, adding up to a heterogenous release.

Ashworth's Grain LP captured the imagination of many in the music world on it's release last year. After releasing two original EP's from the album we get an excellent remix package from three leading lights in electronic music. What better way to wrap up his debut with Needwant. The EP serves up three very different remixes all for a different occasion and mood. The ever reliable Dorisbourg, who remains one half of the lauded Genius of Time, takes a laidback Electronica approach but with Techno at it's heart. Newcomer Kris Davis and Yost keep the original feel of Cork but provide a sensual but progressive vibe.
While Simon Haydo drives all the way to the end with his remix of Fireworks. Great production on show across the EP for the emerging producer Ashworth. More

steve huerta - Bear Witness
LA born and Berlin-based Steve Huerta makes his debut on Anjunadeep following an impressive run of releases on Waze & Odyssey’s’ Street Tracks, Dirt Crew and Amadeus. Featured on the Anjunadeep 06 compilation, which topped the iTunes Dance Album charts, Huerta delivers an emotive and powerful A-side in “Say It Wasn’t”, built over subtle chords, shifting percussion and deep fuzzy tones. “Bear Witness” pulses into life over shifting hi-hats and weighty kicks, with the slow burning percussive groove partnered with hypnotic oscillating synths and delicate chords. On remix duty is Hotflush Recordings star Locked Groove, who seamlessly blurs the lines between house and techno for his epic club-ready take on “Say it Wasn’

Hailing from Sydney, Australia, Lancelot is the latest in a line of talented musicians to join the Anjunadeep roster. His debut release on the label, "Givin' It Up / Make Ends Meet" set the blogosphere alight and has been supported by everyone from T. Williams and Danny Howard to Tensnake and The Magician. In fact MK, fresh from his unstoppable UK #1 single, loved "Givin' It Up" so much that he found the time in his hectic schedule to turn out a remix. Built around the swirling vocals of Antony & Cleopatra, his mix is a masterclass in groove, blending shuffling percussion with an infectious yet subtle piano refrain to create a true retro gem. Reminiscent of the classic 90s piano house sound that MK himself helped pioneer, it's easy to see why he's one of dance music's most exciting artists right now. Isaac Tichauer and DJ Nibc take their remix down an equally retro, but altogether different path, channelling breakbeat influences in a ravey piano number. A surging piano riff drives the track through to an old school breakdown straight out of 1992, complete with melodic stabs, syncopated drums and of course the infectious vocal. Rounding off the package in style are UK up and comers Panda. Fresh from releases on Cool Kid Music and Sound of Sumo, they bring their contemporary bass heavy sound to the original. Once again the irresistible vocal leads the way, accompanied by bouncy piano stabs and a potent bassline.
