Hubie Davison returns to Leisure System December 1st, 2014 with the Khayyam Grey EP, his second release for the Berlin-based label and one that marks both his and Leisure System's funkiest output to date. Following on his 2013 debut of pastoral electronics and muffled house, Khayyam Grey highlights Davison's vivid production skills, drawing from a deep well of influences varying from Werkdiscs and Sound Signature to Bill Withers and Otis Redding. The three tracks here are also the strongest representative document yet of the 26-year-old Davison's DJing, which incorporates all manner of memorable house and assorted wonkiness and has seen him play in Panorama Bar, Corsica Studios, and Gaité Lyrique in Paris amongst numerous others. The title track takes cues from Daphni's stand-up-and-shout, sample-heavy house, while "Get On" is a comparatively restrained yet incredibly funky mid-tempo number. "Vowels", which first appeared as the opening track on the LSR-LSD1 compilation, appears here in extended and altered form, breaking down vocals on a syllabic level from smooth to percussive. These three tracks of addictive house have been on constant rotation at Leisure System for the past few months - it's high time everyone else joined the party.

Who controls the mind controls the body. After three years of experimentation in isolation, Dopplereffekt have emerged with Neurotelepathy, an oracular narrative of cerebral entanglement and advancement. The sleek mathematical models of 2017’s Cellular Automata have evolved into these synaptic interpretations, transferences and modifications, rejecting binary expectations to meditate on the possibilities and pitfalls of what’s to come. With their second LP and fifth release in total on Leisure System, the duo of Rudolf Klorzeiger and To-Nhan have themselves achieved a near-telepathic capacity for collaborative thought and mechanical construction. They continue to use live appearances to present experimental trials of theoretical models, and that effort is heard in the sizzle and swing of the percussive highlights here, programmed with a serious depth and wriggle that reflect both an extension of and return to form. Considerations of the machine-human interface, neurological realities and physical probabilities dominate. But these tracks are economical and precise, glittering with emotional depth and cinematic effects. The album's core, a three-act movement of symphonic uncertainty and revelation, marks one of the pair's most evocative compositions in a career full of them. Territory is monitored, traced and scanned, resulting in unexpected modulations. Underlying systems are questioned, competing mindsets animated and mutated: brain-to-brain, brain-to-machine and beyond. Neurotelepathy processes these transformative mental, psychological and transgenerational states both traumatic and triumphant.

Dopplereffekt present Athanatos, their forth release for Leisure System, including a stunning collaboration with Carsten Nicolai and Olaf Bender. Advancing the concepts of growth and decay considered in Cellular Automata, the duo of Rudolf Klorzeiger and To-Nhan explore the genetic conditions behind mortality in five sections, each offering a different interpretation of the subject matter. While conceived as a whole, the parts could be seen as functional devices in an iterative process. The release features artwork by Carsten Nicolai, and is available as 12” vinyl and digital download from October 26th More

"Cellular Automata" is the new album from Dopplereffekt (Rudolf Klorzeiger and To-Nhan), their first in ten years since 2007’s Calabi Yau Space on Rephlex. Cellular Automata approaches mathematical growth and decay as an iterative process, with each data input considered individually relative to the overall model. The result represents one of the group’s boldest creative endeavors, defying expectations while remaining unmistakably Dopplereffekt. Cellular Automata is the third Dopplereffekt release to come via Berlin’s Leisure System label, following 2013’s "Tetrahymena" and 2014’s "Hypnagogia". More

Detroit enigma Dopplereffekt has been resurrected, emerging from a grave of jagged detritus and technotrash for their first release since 2007. Dopplereffekt has always preferred mystery and myth, and the Tetrahymena EP on Leisure System is a scorching assertion of their capacity for hallucinogenic abrasion. Tetrahymena wanders through decommissioned factories and an omnipresent chemical haze, evasive and contemplative like the last man alive in a crumbling steel city. Whether in the ethereal voices and plunging bass of title track "Tetrahymena," the unidentified flying objects droning maliciously in the thunderous weapon "Gene Silencing," or the retch and hiss of arpeggiated bad trip "Zygote," it's a transportive journey of dread as only Dopplereffekt can create. Leisure System is proud to release the Tetrahymena EP, an essential vision of dance floor dystopia from one of the most consistently compelling artists in electronic music. More

JakoJako makes her debut on Leisure System with Aequilibration, an EP of diverse, experimental tracks aimed at the dancefloor. In F22.0, waves of paranoia break over driving, asymmetric rhythms, offset by soothing, whispered vocals. Kogn. Dissonanz maintains the tension, making clever use of polyrhythms and blasts of machine gun fire. The B-side takes a more hopeful turn with Resilienz, where warm oscillations cluster around a simple but effective groove, and the restrained cries of Katharsis close the EP with powerful intimacy. Self-taught and primarily a live performer, JakoJako makes extensive use of modular synthesis in her productions and on stage. ”Depending on how you configure your system, you can design a completely different instrument every time. I love when it’s surprising me.” When not in the studio, her expertise is put to use advising well-established artists on their own systems at Berlin’s synth-mecca SchneidersLaden.

On the heels of 2015’s hyperactive Longanimity EP on Leisure System and the recent Sense of Purpose LP via Bloc Records, JoeFarr returns to Leisure System with the Spectate EP, another tactile and punishing contribution to the ongoing GRIDLOCK series complete with an incredible remix from sound scientist Max Cooper. Farr throws down heavy drum grooves on title track “Spectate,” with hi-hats and synth zaps creating malevolent movement around a blurry vocal sample. Teetering on the edge of total malfunction, it lurches and leaps in beguilingly twitchy ways. Max Cooper explodes the track on his remix, offering increasingly distorted sections that lure in the listener before shattering the structure. On the flip side, “Comp Killer” and “In Focus” are two slices of deliciously raw techno, featuring shuddering bass and searing melodies sure to split open any dance floor. The fifth edition in Leisure System’s ongoing GRIDLOCK 12” series, the Spectate EP is yet another example of JoeFarr’s able hand at creating fierce, infectious, and irregular techno.

rob clouth - Deep Field (Vessels Remix)
Barcelona-based Rob Clouth returns to Leisure System with the Deep Field 12", a stomping showcase of his focused sound design and knack for memorable melodies with additional remixes from Kowton and Vessels. Deep Field is Clouth's Leisure System follow-up to the Clockwork Atom EP, which was named one of the top EPs of 2014 by Bleep and introduced his electronic wizardry to a wider audience following prior releases as Vaetxh and under his own name. Debuted on Max Cooper's Boiler Room and appearing again on his Essential Mix, "Deep Field" is tactile and threatening, with disorienting glitches weaved into the 4/4 structure. The belching low-end brings to mind a talkative machine that's been muzzled, eager to burst from its restraints. Livity Sound boss Kowton inverts the original into a gelatinous mass, adding jackhammering drums to the cloudy atmosphere and creating a spacious and stuttering lesson in tension and release. Fresh off the release of their LP Dilate, Leeds band Vessels put their own euphoric electronic magic to work with a housier take, drawing out Clouth's propulsive percussion with an added dose of lush melodicism that should make it a new favorite for house DJs looking for a spirited twist on the typical. Deep Field is the third in Leisure System's new GRIDLOCK series, melding the freaky and functional for modern dance floors.

JoeFarr inaugurates Leisure System's new GRIDLOCK 12" series with the Longanimity EP, an invigorating exploration of broken techno released April 20th, 2015. Farr has a diverse history, with three well-received releases on Turbo as well as records with DSNT and Power Vacuum. Few producers can claim to have both remixed Tiga and been remixed by Truss, and the Longanimity EP continues Farr's recent drift towards streamlined brutality, leavening intense drum programming with crystalline bursts of color. The clinical and kinetic "Oleum" kicks things off and hurdles towards a shatteringly powerful peak, while "Mormon Shuffle" boasts twisted functionality without sacrificing roughness in the brittle loops. The monolithic "Standard Issue" has an aggressive edge enhanced by whiplash percussion, and the broken piano melody of "FS3+4" inverts the joy typically found in that rave standby, preferring to drop the instrument from the fifth floor and let the chords scatter and shatter as they please. The first release in Leisure System's 2015 GRIDLOCK series representing our ongoing interest in melding the freaky and the functional on the dance floor, JoeFarr's Longanimity EP is stocked with tested and tenacious late-night weapons.

rob clouth - The Descent
Rob Clouth's Clockwork Atom EP, the eleventh release from Berlin-based record label, Berghain residency, and nomadic party-starters Leisure System, is a triumph of emotional composition and twisted beats. Recalling Jon Hopkins at his fiercest and Autechre at their most melodic, Clouth has put together something special for peak- time and morning-afters alike, three timeless tracks with bass to massage your ears and melodies to warm your heart. Clouth's creative process is driven by an endless thirst for evolution, resulting in diverse tracks still linked with a thread of re-occurring themes. Title track "Clockwork Atom" is the standout here, balancing thick sub-bass and a player piano line recurring in waves of bliss. The track disintegrates and dissolves before locking back into place, pitting lush movements against menacing rhythms. "Islands of Glass" is the cold stare to "Clockwork Atom's" warm embrace, beginning with richly harmonic undulating textures before jerking the listener across hilly and alien terrain. "The Descent" is slower but no less bedazzling, like a clone coming off an assembly line and being blinded by the sun for the first time. There's certainly a menace at work in all these tracks, but it's softened by the entrancing atmospheres. Welcome to the machine - you'll like it here. The Barcelona-based glitch expert Rob Clouth has released music under both his given name and the alias Vaetxh on labels such as Traum Schallplatten, King Deluxe, and Detroit Underground. In addition to Clouth's music work, he's also a relentless tinkerer and audio architect, designing multiple pieces of experimental software and hardware, including recent work with digitally painting waveforms. This release on Leisure System arose from a desire to better integrate his two distinct recording aliases in one project, emphasizing the dancefloor-focused elements without abandoning past experimentation.
