Here we have the first release on Husten. Husten is a new label from Apiento (aka Paul Byrne) from Test Pressing. ‘The Orange Place’ by Apiento & Co was originally released on World Unknown and from there became a favourite with everyone from Todd Terje and Andrew Weatherall and the Balearic crowd. Apiento asked Wolf Mu¨ller to have a play with the track and here we are. Wolf Mu¨ller is from Du¨sseldorf. He made his name as a DJ at the infamous Salon Des Amateurs and from there as a producer for labels like Themes For Great Cities and collaborator with the likes of Young Marco as Young Wolf.

Since their inception in 2013, East London duo Payfone have been breathing warm-blooded soul into their unique machine-fuelled groove.
Drawing the dots between the White Isle and Nu Yorica - by way of London's narcotic nightlife - the pair conjure a rhythmic throb and soulful devotion all of their own. Together, Phil Passera and Chieka Ononye buzz along the fault lines of classic R&B, cosmic disco and acid house, injecting their sound with 21st century syncopation. Adhering to a strict 'no samples' rule, their manifesto demands that everything be 100 percent original.

I was deep in Texas when a call came through..."Hey man it's Cherry ! ...We got some sick new shit for you, gonna blow your mind" I waited nervously for the package. it arrived two weeks later. I slipped the hot black acetate from its wrapper and placed it on the turntable... Wired guitars wail like banshees on heat, primal beats erupt drenched in dark juice from roots of trees slick with crunk. Flutes and bells hang like exotic flowers that reek of jungle sex and all night long the pulse goes on and on and on' As usual Cherry was right...this most surely is one sick motherfucker of a record. Don't get me wrong there's warped beauty here aplenty but you gotta take it easy. Don't ingest it all at once...make sure you're in comfortable surroundings, trust me I know...six months later and I'm still feeling the burn.

On a fishing trip two years ago, the two main guys behind Africaine 808: D Leyers and Nomad - went to a tackle shop to buy some creepy crawlies (saltwater worms), not knowing that they were about to make a life changing discovery. In front of the shop a blind man was jammming on a little electronic organ, stomping his feet, singing, growling and basically making a scene. The boys were quite impressed with the fella, who introduced himself as 'Blind Double D'. They offered to bring him home and record him. He turned the offer down, but offered instead that they could record him on the spot in front of the tackle shop - if they bought him a bottle of good Bourbon. He explained that he would never set foot into a studio again in his life: he was sick of music production and the music industry in general, and that he just wanted this bottle of Bourbon and to be left alone. The boys got him the bottle, and recorded Blind D.D. on the spot with a tape recorder they borrowed from the tackle shop. Unfortunately, the tape was stored in one of the tackle boxes over the trip, and some of the creepy crawlies crawled into the tape and stank it all up. This added some extra funk to the recording. With Dirk and Nomad's usual studio trickery and production skills, they created the two versions of this very very funky, creepy, stanky track. We hope you'll enjoy it as much as we do. This record is dedicated to Blind D.D, wherever he is...

He released the Todd Modes / Bobby Dolo EP on the cult underground label M1 Sessions, and as Cosmic Handshakes with Dial 81 they put out an EP called 'The Delicate Details'. Now he teams up with Golf Channel's own wild man Mike Severson from the psychedelic Disco rock outfit Heroes of the Galleon Trade. After a session one night, the two step out for a cold one and bump into burly biker bar bandit Randy Winter and the singer song writer sex visionary Emily Infinity. After a few drinks they invited them back to the studio and the vocals were set. Put on your jean jacket slip on your leather boots and ready yourself for a night thrill ride. From a basement studio in Hackney, East London comes PAYFONE's 2nd release on GOLF CHANNEL - QUARANTINE b/w PADRE, PRAY FOR US. Following on from 2014's extremely well received PARADISE heater, PAYFONE continue down a similar path for the A side QUARANTINE. Featuring once again 24 year old vocal powerhouse Louis Howard Jones, QUARANTINE is a semi auto biographical take on the hardships of a an underprivileged youth, set against a tough Phil Passera production that sounds more New York City 1984 than New Port County 2004 (Jones was born and raised in Cardiff). Cruising at 120 BPM, the dark funk guitar intro gives way to some heavy slap bass and deep synth that touches Michael Jackson's THRILLER before the direct and brutal vocals of Jones hit you right between the eyes. PADRE, PRAY FOR US is a bizarre Afro-Cuban inspired homage to Passera's Italian father Sergio ( who's telephone call can be heard on the songs intro). Featuring the lethal trumpet of former Cuban military private Eikel Venegas Hernandez, this instrumental takes you to the Pinata Party via downtown Lagos. Golf Channel every time !
