alex niggemann - Tripping Minds
AEON009 is expertly crafted by AEON label boss and veritable wunderkind of the multi-faceted anologue electronic, German DJ and producer Alex Niggemann. As a firm believer that a collection of music should unravel and develop like the plot of a good book, this EP is an apt offering from the German maestro, who has recently seen (and is still seeing) underground chart success with his release 'Materium' on Poker Flat, as the likes of Sven Vath, Tale of Us and Mano le Tough continue to drop it to revering masses across the globe. Following successful releases on Poker Flat, Compost Black Label and Last Night On Earth to name a few, 'Abaton' carries on his chameleonic success. The title track highlights Niggemann's affinity with texture and genre- defying sound, as he mixes ethereal chords with stark ashen synths for a truly goose bump-inducing musical experience. First on remix duty is the outfit Quantum Entanglement, comprised of Lee Jones and Fink, who provide a somewhat mellow interpretation, leading into a satisfying deeper progression. Irish producer Chymera evokes an eery landscape with his rework of the track, with the tentative sound of synths juxtaposed with murkier sonic trails and a tiptoeing bassline. Niggemann rounds off the EP with 'Tripping Minds' - a maze of rhythmic curlicues that dance around melancholic pads and descend over a bassline that truly packs a punch, causing the listener to yearn for a dancefloor, or reminisce on a past moment of musical clarity that can only come from the most prolific of music. This collection of intelligent, almost lugubrious sonic expression is a fitting display of how far Alex Niggemann, and indeed his AEON label have come; catapulting you into a darker, more aggressive and impressive world of musical capability

Making his debut on Crosstown Rebels, AEON founder Alex Niggemann takes us on a sonic exploration of the African continent for his next musical venture. Allow yourself to melt into the hypnotic rhythm of Zoulou. Ambient sounds are textured with percussion that lures you in. Tribal chants and explosive drums seek add drama as the abundance of intricate layers pull you along for the journey. Bwana is more progressive than its predecessor with a soft drumbeat underpinning it. It utilises that same tribal vocal stab contrasting against harder synths.

We here at Watergate are extremely excited to bring you our next 12" release from a close friend of the club and producer extraordinaire, Alex Niggemann. For this EP Alex joined forces with the acclaimed voice from WhoMadeWho, Bon Homme, to create an incredibly warm and beautiful journey. "Sorrow" is a masterfully crafted array of sound and emotion. While a big rolling kick and crisp hand claps drive the groove, a capricious arpeggio, warm piano chords and the smooth serenade of Bon Homme's vocals create an undeniably passionate excursion into the deeper moments one can experience on the dance floor.
On remix duties we have two heavy hitters; the one and only Deetron and Watergate mainstay Marco Resmann. Up first is Deetron and he does exactly what he does best. A massive peak time revision that keeps the emotion of the original while adding his signature touch of shimmering synth loops and huge sub bass perfect for peak time club antics. Marco Resmann rounds out the release with his rendition of "Sorrow" creating a vast and psychotropic soundscape by using echoing atmospherics, washed out vocals and heavy, chugging drums. Whether it's a late night in the club or a sun soaked afternoon with the sand between your toes, one of these three incredible versions will be the perfect selection for an unforgettable moment."Sorrow" will be released on Novmber 24, 2014.

Poker Flat Recordings welcomes back the ever-prolific Alex Niggemann for another speaker-troubling dispatch. This time out, the Aoen and Soulfooled boss drops a heavy–duty release that more than lives up to his usual high standards.
'Materium' is epic in every sense of the word- a sprawling, tough journey into analog techno - with a dash of house thrown in. It rips through the speakers - the crisp and aggressive production provides the space for growling synths and atmospheric, tense pads.
What’s more, the whole track audaciously dissolves into silence mid way through - before exploding back into life via a descending analog synth line.
'Primary' is no less dramatic, but opts for a dubbier vibe as it builds and releases the ever-present tension. It’s hard, moody, electronic funk for after-hours basements and warehouses.

Eventually, out of the precise interplay of elements, explodes a huge euphoric melody that will surely take the roof of many a club in the months to come. The Dark End version is another beast entirely, switching the vibe to something a little malevolent- a techier workout that maintains the essential core of the original but provides a little extra drive to the groove - tough, body-moving Tech House for the heads. Diamond hard beats, unhinged synths and an evolving groove are classic Niggemann traits, resulting in a deeply assured track that will see as much club play as the other two bombs on this releases.

Alex Niggemann’s 2012-defining long player 'Paranoid Funk' dropped in June to a rapturous response from DJs, dancers and home listeners alike. Here, Poker Flat Recordings revisits some of the exceptional highlights of that record, and deliver a remix package sure to be as equally sought-after by those in the know.
'Paranoid Funk' saw the Berlin resident explore a variety of grooves and textures, an experiment that won him many new admirers and a great deal of critical acclaim. Here, some of the hottest remix talent in the scene get their hands on the originals and twist them into new shapes.
Following on from releases on Cocoon, Kling Klong, Circle and two strong EPs on Poker Flat ("Dinosaurs" and "This") renowned producers Alex Flatner and LOPAZZ take on 'Don’t Wait' and drop a growling, main room monster that will standout in any set.
Francys, the young Italian making quiet a name for himself on the underground house and techno circuit, lends his skills to 'Back 2 Basics feat. Benji' – channeling the spirit of the early 90s into seven ecstatic minutes.
Next up is Salvatore Freda – the highly respected Swiss DJ and producer who injects Niggemann’s 'I Don’t Care' with a narcotic groove that sits somewhere between Detroit and Berlin – the dubbed out vocals adding an element of otherworldliness that work in perfect compliment to the track’s twisted (paranoid) funk.
Berlin’s own Andre Lodemann picks out 'Lovers' for his excursion, a deep bomb that grows and grows around an exceptional vocal from John Rydell - this is one for the very late nights or early mornings.
What is clear from this release is that Alex Niggemann’s star continues to rise – the classical pianist turned producer and DJ extraordinaire is moving on to the next phase of his career – and with the slew of outstanding releases to his name already, who is to say where that could lead.

Berlin‘s Alex Niggemann is one of an exciting new run of artists to arrive on Steve Bug‘s established Poker Flat Recordings, bringing fresh, high quality house music to the world‘s dancefloors. In his own words Alex set out to “create an album which is different to typical club or listening albums... where songs fit together (even when having different styles) without being too similar“. And so “Paranoid Funk” is a brilliant debut album and a great achievement for this up and coming producer. About Alex Niggemann Producer, remixer, audio-engineer, labelowner (Soulfooled) and DJ Alex Niggeman gained an international reputation with his releases on various labels including Tsuba, Ostwind, Supernature, 8bit, Darkroom, Poker Flat and his remixes for the likes of Gorge, Booka Shade, Phonique/Louie Austen, Spektre and many more. He already achieved a top position (#8) on Resident Advisor’s “Top 20 Charted Artists”! His solid reputation has opened the doors to some of the world‘s leading, most influential clubs, including Ibiza‘s “Space” & “Privilege”, “D-Edge” Brasil and Watergate in Berlin and he will be on a world tour once more around the album release. The album: The confidant, retro-meets-nu-school grooves of Niggemann‘s 11-track debut album ‘Paranoid Funk‘ fit perfectly to the man behind the beats. A classically trained pianist who gave up the ivory keys for a more technological dream, the young 26 year old producer joins a new wave of artists enjoying a steady resurgence in deep, groovy and indeed sexy house music. It‘s a mature, well considered achievement that will no-doubt find favor with club DJs and avid home listeners alike.
Guests featured on the album include
- Daniel Solar, founder of Disko Records, releases on Einmaleins, Diynamic and more
- seminal Florian Schirmacher of Wareika, Hatikvah, Glowing Glisses, Chaenge,

Düsseldorf born Niggemann has enjoyed a constant climbing success in recent years thanks to his precise tech house productions on 8bit, Tsuba and Supernature. Now based in Berlin, he arrives on Poker Flat with this, the first single to be lifted from his imminently arriving album debut. We don‘t want to tell you too much about
the album right now, but if these two tracks are anything to go by, be sure you‘re in for a treat!
'Don‘t Wait‘ (Extended Mix) layers Niggemann's trademark tight, percussive beats as it builds towards a surprising vocal arrival and a killer, positively hung bassline. Equally perfect for late night sessions as it will be for the coming spring summer season, basking in the sun, its a versatile and uplifting cut in the true Poker Flat tradition. On the B side a dubbed out synth voyage unfolds with 'Curious‘. Working snappy drums and airy, wistful FX, Niggemann skillfully tells his moody story with passionate charm. Swirling synth pads lift before a mid-point break gradually introduces a second theme, cementing the young producer‘s able hand at writing melodies and creating strong, rushing feelings.

Alex Niggemann, - Lately
Popping up on labels like 8Bit, Supernature and Tsuba, releasing quality tech-house and club-assured cuts since 2008, we're delighted to welcome German producer Alex Niggemann to Poker Flat. This new EP raises Niggemann's game with three tracks taking in heavy acid bass, chicago-house vibes and inventive, smooth flowing arrangements.
‚Lately' is a real stomper in the classic Poker Flat tradition. Haunting, acidic, modern, club guaranteed! Niggemann twists a spooky and funky synth line around a heavy old-school house vibe, complete with a thoughtful smokey-voiced naration.
‚Madness' lifts the tension higher with a sub-heavy chigaco bass attack, 2011 style. Alex has fused the best of both old and new and found a new sound that leaves behind rigid sound in favour of more funky, warmer and totally fresh vibes!
The EP concludes with ‚Smash Your Face', a groovy houser that rolls wonderfully with more growling square wave bass and plenty of details to keep the flow nothing short of riveting!

Sidetracking - Part 1: Prologue' is the first vinyl taste of Jona's de- but album project for Alex Niggemann's forward-thinking AEON la-bel. The musical puzzle will be completed in February 2016 with the release of a second vinyl instalment, featuring 6 more original tracks, and the full 10-track album on CD format. Created over the course of two highly creative years, the concept for 'Sidetracking' was for Jona to invite some of his musician and producer friends to collaborate with him in the studio and compli- ment his album's solo productions. This impressive coming together (to be fully revealed over the coming months) features Varoslav (Rue de Plaisance, Paris), Usio (Studio Barnhus), David K (Cocoon), Bo- livian percussionist Daniel Aguilar, Italian pianist Giovanni Verga, and Edinburgh-based producer The Reverse Engineer. Driven by his desire to explore new sound perspectives and ideas, Jona has carefully forged his career path by consistently creating exciting and forward-thinking music. His previous label outings: 'Traffic' on 'Lost Tapes Volume 1' (AEON010) and 'Gemini EP' (AE- ON016) have seen him fine-tune his own unique sound. By incor- porating a wide range of styles into his tracks, Jona strives to break down unnecessary boundaries and explores new ideas and ways to ignite that hallowed dancefloor flame. It is therefore no wonder that his collaborative creations for 'Sidetracking' have yielded such stimulating aural delights. Fittingly, the album prologue opens with a track whose style is heav- ily influenced by the jazz music that Jona was so in love with dur- ing his formative years. Calling on the somewhat mysterious Usio (whose 'Kuwa Huru' LP on Studio Barnhus should be checked by everyone) to join him in a studio jam, has resulted in 'The Chase', an utterly compelling afro-beat influenced percussive groove, topped with swirling funk-fuelled stabs and strings, mesmerising chiming piano, and a large helping of pure, hip-swinging goodness. Taking 'The Chase' on an entirely different and yet perfectly com- plimentary twisted trip, AEON family members Simone Sinatti and Marco Paladin (aka Speaking Minds) conjure up a futuristic technoid disco demon that is all about throbbing energy, sweat, darkness and hissing smoke machines – perfect ingredients for an unforget- table strobelight serenade. Changing the mood entirely and cutting the tempo to a dublicious skank, 'Transmission Breakdown' sees Jona's experimental creative juices in full flow, as he teams up with Edinburgh-based digital com- poser and sound artist Dave House (aka The Reverse Engineer) for a delightfully hazy downtempo jam. Both as an artist and a DJ, Manchester's Marcus Intalex has been at the forefront of soulful, musical drum & bass for what seems like forever. A passion for techno has always run deeply through his music and under his Trevino moniker he is also a powerful creative force (check his recent 'Front' album to get the full picture). Here, he takes 'Transmission Breakdown' on a magical excursion, filled with subtle, hypnotic, evolving energy, anchored with an irresistible pul- sating bassline throb - a perfectly synergetic interpretation to round off Jona's 'Sidetracking' album prologue in style.
