Banda Black Rio’s ‘Maria Fumaca’ is one of the strongest Brazilian samba-disco-funk-soul-fusion albums of all time. As regularly played by Theo Parrish, Gilles Peterson and co.

‘Maria Fumaca’ is the groups first album, originally released by Atlantic in 1977; a record that bought the group worldwide fame. This album features in a list of the 100 greatest Brazilian albums of all time published by Rolling Stone Brazil, coming in at number 38.

Originally released in 2011, this new special edition for RSD features two tracks from the project that were never released on vinyl, ‘Irerê (feat. Gilberto Gil)’ and ‘Aos Pés Do Redentor (feat. Caetano Veloso)’.

(Polysom official reissue, 180 gram pressing) Originally released in 1971, B.R.3 opens with a sultry groove, layered horns, and chorus of vocalists -- an inspired arrangement which is matched in inventiveness throughout the entirety of the album. Toni Tornado should be recognized alongside the more celebrated Brazilian funk/soul artists Tim Maia and Jorge Ben on this effort alone.
