After over ten years of Hercules & Love Affair, Andy Butler offers three reimagined versions of classic Hercules tunes and a piece of new music on the ‘Change EP’. Producer with current partner in crime Alec Storey (aka Second Storey), the two have been touring the Hercules catalogue with an approach that incorporates a proper dose of techno while duly engaging Storey’s penchant for breaks and intricate percussion work. Butler decided to put a few of these reworks out for DJs and dancefloors, offering the chance for these great Hercules moments to shine once again.

‘Do You Feel The Same’ by Hercules &Love Affair is easily one of the biggest dancefloor tracks of 2014, the powerful vocal and catchiness made it an anthem in its own right. Now with re-works from one of the most celebrated figures in dance music Todd Terry and talented duo 6th Borough Project the record has been taken in different, but equally dynami,c directions. Todd Terry’s remix keeps the uplifting dance quality of the track whilst adding his signature style of house that was instrumental in creating the deep/progressive house we listen to today. The dub takes the focus away from the vocal and has more of an underground and tech sound. 6thBorough Project often explore long forgotten funk and disco dubs, and with their remix of the track they manage to keep the disco sound of Hercules &Love Affair’s original track, even with the BPM’s dropped down to something far more mellow than the original. Hercules & Love Affair return to the fray with “Controller”, a pulsing, propulsive new song that signals the first salvo from their long-awaited new album. Featuring The Horrors’ Faris Badwan on vocals, it takes the Hercules’ disco-house heritage and fuses it with starker post-punk stylings. A taster both sonically and aesthetically of the new album, Controller connects new wave, post-punk and 80s electro within the clubland realm of Hercules & Love Affair. Also featured is Tuff City Kids Italo-Disco inspired remix, and Mike Simonetto homage to early 90’s West Coast Break-beat House, and then there is the superb Dub of the original….What a package! Hearing the The Horrors’ live version of Frankie Knuckles & Jamie Principle’s ‘Your Love’, Andy realised he’d found a rock artist willing to engage with dance culture's history. With its underbelly of seamy ‘80s electro-pop yet recalling early house records by the likes of Lil Louis and Bam Bam, “Controller”’s sub-dom, master-and-servant roleplay in the lyrics work perfectly with Faris vocals delivery creating something truly quiet special. Mr.intl have unearthed a lost gem. ‘Cortina Kidz’ is an utterly overlooked part of the tapestry of late 80’s British acid house history. Recorded in a cold water flat on Stoke Newington Road in 1987 and then released as a B-side in 1988, its eccentric spoken word overlay and weird lead vocal made it very unlike the prevailing dance music sound of the time. This is a unique recording whose time has come. ‘Cortina Kidz’ was produced by a young Tim Brinkhurst ahead of his imminent record deal with Virgin Records with his band Soho, and long before his current role as manager of Mercury Prize winners, Young Fathers. The A-side ‘Jack Me Some Crack’ was a minor dance moment in 1988, but ‘Cortina Kidz’ on the flip remained undiscovered. That was until mr.Intl, Andy Butler’s record label, made a chance discovery in 2015. It was a track so good that they pledged to resurrect it. Tim was duly tracked down (“you are only the second person in my life to ask me about this record”) and interpretations from Factory Floor and NYC cohorts Juan Maclean & Tim Sweeney are to finally give this track the exposure it deserves. Quriky Icelandic four-piece Sísý Ey, debut on Andy Butler from Hercules & Love Affair’s Mr.Intl label with a huge summer anthem. ‘Do It Good’ is released in with remixes from Neville Watson, Citizenn, and Andy Butler and is gearing up to be this year hot ticket! Sísý Ey can only be described as kooky, fierce, energetic and off-the-wall. The three sisters who sing in close vocal harmony forge a wonderfully unique sound that slays dancefloors. Sísý Ey featured on Kasper Bjorke’s 'Apart' single in December 2014, and the retro-future classic ‘Do It Good’ is destined to be an anthem this summer, with additional production from Andy Butler and Constantin from Hercules. Icelandic band Sísý Ey (pronounced See See Ay) was founded in 2011 to get the three sisters, Elin, Elisabet and Sigga to sing live house music which would serve not only the exquisite combination of their beautiful voices into new and exciting territory, but would also showcase their abilities in a different context as all have more acoustic-driven music careers, working together with producer and DJ, Oculus. The band’s main focus is live performance as this is the best environment to experience their one-of-a-kind talent, together with the intense energy of the music. The A Side ‘Soldier’ is a co-production between Andy Butler & Ha-ze Factory (Constantin Zeileissen & Philipp Haffner) and features Mad Panther (aka Cleo Panther) on vocals. A infectious, bumping mid-90’s New York inspired House groove underpins Cleo’s powerful torch-like vocal. A sure fire killer of a track! On the flip, Ha-ze Factory team up with the legendary Tin Man (Johannes Auvinen) and get deep and ominous, delivering another timeless classic underground tough-jam complete with modern twist.
