Rothmans are back with there first release of 2014 - Coyote - The Socrates EP. This time the guys are paying hommage to one of the more contriversial stars of the late 70's/ early 80's , the absolutely legendry Dr Socrates!!. This 6th release by the the retro, football mad, perm loving lot sees them take a step away from the various artists format into the world of EP's. And what a stomper they have in the form of the 'Is It Balearic...?' boys Coyote. Featuring on last years Claudio Gentile Release the boys are back on Rothmans and in fine form with a mixture of psychadelic disco and funky Balearic beats that would make Dr Socrates himself stand up and shake that afro all over the dancefloor. And joining them on the team sheet are a pair of knock out players in the form of Mark E & Ste Spandex. Mark E putting his silky skills, and attacking mark on Passing Memories, and then Ste Spandex bringing it up the rear and joining him in attack with a live VHS remix of Act Like You Know. The Rothmans label seems to be taking shape now and looks like it could be also putting together a dream team of releases.

It is time to succumb to the sounds of the Magic Wand label once more and this eighth sonic spell is another one that will leave you happily helpless. It finds the Coyote lads step away from their fine work on Is It Balearic? to cook up two top edits. First up they offer 'Lonely' - a broody, steamy and shimmering tropical Balearic workout and then comes the organic and lazy drums of 'Western Revolution' with an iconic gravelly vocal from Gil Scott Heron. There are folk-tinged Americana sounds on 'Love Home' and laid-back disco licks on the seductive 'Luca' to make this a summer party essential.

The latest mini LP from Coyote sees them continue to explore the realms of emotionally charged electronic music. From dreamy horizontal soothers to more ecstatic uplifting refrains. 'Both Gone' is an embrace from the sun as it sets gently into the horizon, 'People Take It' is an early afternoon watching the shimmering sea with a mint tea, 'We Got Lost' is a cautioning tale to all, 'Beltane' a celebratory Pagan dub, 'Show Me' is a poolside midday smiler, 'Cirrus' is an ecstatic sunrise anthem. So hurry up, and Live!

Is It Balearic finally offer up four cuts from Coyote's fantastic The Mystery Light album. First up is Dan Lissvik on the remix of 'Simpsons Sky' with its loose-limbed Balearic drum funk and tropical synth work. Then come Reverso 68 who layer in some superb arpeggiators for the silky piano sounds of sunset gem 'Copacetic.' Japanese downtempo boss Calm brings his signature mellow acid lushness to 'Outsider' and last of all Chris Massey reworks Coyote's 'Cami Sa Valeta' which was a tribute to Tony Pike. Here it is a go-slow, blissed out and cosmic star-gazer.

Coyote - No Entry
Last year's 'Will We Ever Dance Again' 12" was a big one for Coyote who now follow it up and impress once more. First up they do so on 'Baka Re-Rub' by paying their respects to the iconic Jon da Silva remix of The FADS track. It's steamy, tropical, full of loose drum energy and jangling synths that lightened up any club. On the flip you find 'No Entry' which is a big house anthem plenty of classic tops, uplifting arpeggios and pianos, and dramatic strings next to big acid lines. It's an all out, hands in the air gem that brings the good times.

Coyote - Writing On Water
As NuNorthern Soul gets ready to celebrate its tenth birthday, it seems fitting that the label’s next album release comes from Coyote, whose impact on the 21st century Balearic scene has arguably been even more significant than that of Phil Cooper’s Ibiza-based imprint.
Everything Moves, Nothing Rests is classic Coyote. Musically varied but tied together by a distinctively warm, dreamy and tactile trademark sound, it contains numerous subtle references to musical and cultural themes that have long been an under-reported feature of their work (the title, for example, is a reference to the 7 Hermetic Principles outlined in ancient Greek text The Kybalion, a work that has long fascinated the duo).
Those familiar with the pair’s output will feel right at home. A rich, loved-up musical tapestry rich in drifting chords, dubby basslines, echoing vocal snippets, languid instrumentation, colourful synthesizer motifs and relaxed beats, the album’s multitude of sonic highlights come together to create a coherent musical voyage that seems to reveal new audio details with each successive listen.
And what highlights. There’s opener ‘Free To Choose’, where aural textures reminiscent of vintage Italian dream house tracks rub shoulders with echoing spoken word vocals, cascading synth solos and flashes of acoustic guitar atop a head-nodding groove, the Flamenco-dub shuffle of ‘Freya’s Song’, and the yearning lament of ‘Nothing Rests’, whose lilting trumpet solos, swirling chords, tumbling Marimba melodies and infectious drums sound like a sunrise soundtrack in waiting.
The quality doesn’t stop there, either. Many will gravitate towards the subtly psychedelic electronics, weighty acid bass and evocative ambient house chords of ‘Vine of the Soul’, and ‘Fullness’, whose atmospheric synth strings, sampled spoken word vocals, slow-motion grooves and deep bass are the aural equivalent of a tender embrace. Then there’s ‘Writing on Water’, a rushing, ever-building dancefloor excursion in which spine-tingling piano motifs, life-affirming strings and waves of kaleidoscopic synthesizer sounds lap around a dubby house groove. It provides a stunning conclusion to a fittingly evocative album from Nottingham’s Balearic masters. More

Mint Tea is the post breakfast view over the shimmering ocean. Bougainvillea is a moment of calm. Cami de Sa Veleta is an homage to a fav Ibiza road trip for lunch and music. Some two years in the making, Glide Time is the brand new studio album from Is It Balearic..? Recordings head boys Coyote. Eight tracks deep, this album sees Ampo and Timm Sure further perfect their approach to modern Balearica, ambling from moments of incandescent calm such as the expansive opening track "California Jam" and "Feel Beautiful" to euphoria inducing cuts like the chuggy "Swimming" and acid tinged "Break On Through". Look out for the guitar playing skills of Is It Balearic...? Stalwart Max Essa too. It is indeed Time to Glide. Switch on and feel the new Balearic beat at its best

Somewhere between Center Parcs in Nottingham and the white sandy perfection of Formentera reside two men dedicated to the art of horizontal dancing. Their mums call them Ampo and Timm (funny names, those Notts lads), though we know them by their collective name of Coyote. In their minds eye, it is 1986 and there are leathery looking Germans with alarming posing pouches dancing to Simply Red records on the shimmering terrace at Ku club while down the road Alfredo is building his legendary reputation at Amnesia. Apart from the clued-up few, most of the Brits are billeted in San Antonio where the beers are cheap and the sunburn is plentiful. Coyote’s music, despite being produced in the east Midlands conjures up a world of sun, sea and ’80s glamour, while still sounding very much like today.

After last year’s highly sought after collaboration between Coyote and Nesreen Shah that resulted in the dreamy “Moving” on International Feel, Coyote are back for another summer record for 2011 with their equally beautiful ‘Always’ on Needwant. Teaming up again with songstress Nesreen Shah on Always, Coyote have created a hypnotic groove from the outset; a ghostly vocal over a driving slow tempo bassline that keeps you hooked throughout. The results are a sublime piece of haunting dance music laid somewhere between electronica and balearica that manages to trap you in a haze of echoes and drums, perfect for the encroaching long summer days. Neville Watson, here flying solo on this remix, rather than his celebrated partnership with fellow lover of all things 808 – Kink. Neville subtly works the groove of Always, edging up the tempo, adding his trademark old school sound and keeping the full vocal intact. On the House Dub he ups the jack factor and lets the bassline and drums create the raw dancefloor punch to complete what is a great EP for Needwant

cale parks - 9G - Eddie C Remix
Rothmans are back with their first real milestone as a label and what better way to celebrate the labels 10th record than honouring the greatest no10 of all time Diego Armando Maradona Franco. The Diego Maradona EP comes from Brooklyn based producer Cale Parks. Better known in the New York music scene as a professional drummer Cale has recently turned his hand to producing and off the back of some fine releases on HAKT (Have A Killer Time) , he has now found his way onto the Rothmans Teamsheet.
Track 1 - The Big Bust sounds like something you might hear as the opening to an Apparat album , the sweeping synths and beautifully scored piano remind me of the first time I watched Maradona leave Beardsley and Reid for dead in the centre circle of the Azteca Stadium on a hot evening in Mexico City. Track 2- 9G steps up the pace a bit with a much more attacking Piano sound and darker synths that remind me of watching Diego charge right past Terry Butcher and storm towards the goal on that fateful night in Mexico. The record is finished off with a banging breakbeat sounding remix by the delectable Eddie C that almost replicates the same energy, and kick ,as Maradona steaming into the box and beating Shilton to score the greatest goal in World Cup history. All we can say is that Rothmans have delivered another masterclass of their own. More

Rothmans are back with their 3rd release of 2014 and back in the squad is Brooklyn beat master Aimes. You might remember his substitiute appereance on Rothmans 2 alongside Fairplay & Strunz. The release plays homage to informous French defender Marius Tresor who hard nosed defending earned him a place in Pele's top 100 players of all time. He also made waves off the field with a brief singing carear but we will leave you to research that yourself!!. Back to the release and we find Aimes following on from where Ste Spandex left off with an up tempo trancy, acid belter 'Tunnel Down' . Tracks 2 lowers the tempo a little and feels a little more classic Rothmans with that Nu-Disco/Italo feel too it , a sound that served them so well through Roth 3 - 5. The remix comes in on the B side from the legendary Brassica , and he doesent pull any punches at all, the remix takes all the aspects of the origianl and weaves them into an 8min piece of original music that just keeps on giving! The 5th release from Rothmans plays homage to legendry Argentinean defender Alberto Tarrantini and to mark this 5th release Rothmans have provided a team sheet to rival even that infamous 1982 World Cup squad. First up we hear a welcome return to the label from Timothy J Fairplay who featured back aongside Toni Schumacher at the start of the year. This time around he brings us some spaced out Chicago flavour in the guise of 'The Third Season'. On the Flip side we have a welcome addition to the Rothmans squad in Max Essa, and the Tokyo resident brings us nothing short of silky moves with a dark taste of the Orient with his aptly named "Stereoscapledmysexpool". Coming up the flanks we have tracks from Al Gobi and Tommy Walker 3 who bring some dark deep donk spacey vibes with wacked out basslines that really bring this 5th release to the boil!

The Rothmans label combines an unlikely link between football statistics, some of the best (or worst) haircuts to grace the European version of the game, with jacking drums and acid-based rhythmics. The label dedicates its third EP to French striker Dominique Rochetea, with a various artists EP as strong as the back four of Arsenal's '98 FA cup winning side. The Nigel Winterburn of the release is Coyote's "Without The E", a squelchy and Balearic groove with psychedelic vocals not too far off from DJ Koze "Mrs Bojangles". Aimes and Scott Fraser provide the EP with the composure of Tony Adams and the brute force of Martin Keown with their respective synth-led productions "The Kontemplation of Kosmic Order" and "Heat for Dust", while on the right - a would be Lee Dixon - Drvg Cvltvre, supplies "The Master Builder", an EBM and industrious dancefloor workout.

Named in homage to the series of collectable football cards from the 1970s, the Rothmans label follows the inaugural Mario Kempes Release with another long-haired icon being given his dues in the form of The Harald Toni Schumacher Release, complete with another four tracks of chugging techno-disco. Emotional Response's Timothy J Fairplay kicks things off with "Off The Rails", an expectedly dark and tense piece of Carpenter-esque synth, while LWE writer Per Bojsen-Moller delivers the atmospheric techno of "Staying Late", whose rippling analogue bassline gives way to an unexpectedly funky breakdown. On the flip, Steve Cook's "Noah's Arp" takes things a Balearic house direction with its thick, filtered analogue textures adding some psychedelic colour to its mid-tempo grooves, while Emile Strunz's "Magnetic" adds some acid flavour to its low-swung, vocoder saturated Italo swagger
