tolga baklacioglu - B1 Hidden Beneath
VENT pushes forward, and the result is its third installment of raw and unpretentious techno, consisting of the visions of label boss Tolga Baklacioglu, and a reinterpretation from Skirt. Tolga communicates in his characteristically straightforward manner, which is important for VENT, and he wants to talk to us about what is hidden inside. Restless Punk is what we all are deep inside. While during the day we display calm and patience, and that we are always in control, on the night we let show that we are all just restless punks looking for the next thrill, eager to revel in the night, with no time to waste on false mannerisms and dilettantism. Skirt takes Tolga’s message to a deeper level, lodging it further into our minds. She lends an unrelenting quality to the original that only serves to further enhance its significance. Hidden Beneath lets us know that Tolga’s philosophy isn’t just the brash words of a fiery soul, but that of someone who knows what a vast landscape exists in each and every one of us. Hidden Beneath is a sacred place, to contemplate and re-evaluate, find energy, and reach assurance in oneself before returning to the reality of a Monday morning. Hidden Beneath is a power cell.

VENT present the next step in Tolga’s journey to explore the peripheral edges of consciousness and experience - a mental expedition beyond the fringes of reason into dark borderlands of cognisance. Swedish black metal band Totenwelt contributed to “Illa Ki” providing vocals for the track. Our wish for this release is to help guide the listener to a stripped down state of being, free from thoughts and emotions, alone with nothing but one’s living breath.

VENT adds yet again new sonic influences to its palette, this time owing thanks to its main curator Tolga Baklacioglu. With this release, we are pleased to add more than just a sprinkle of industrial and ebm influences to the catalogue of records we are proud to say is the sound of VENT. To make things even better, one of more interesting techno producers as of late, and also Sweden’s favourite son - Daniel Andréasson - wanted to lend us a hand to really bring the point home with this record. Laden heavy with distortion, this release goes further than one can call the lofi sound - instead the thought is taken to its logical conclusion: distortion is as much an element in its own right as time, space and velocity.

VENT goes dark and deep with this fourth release, which so far has received nothing but great reactions. Following the success of Tolga Baklacioglu’s raw message in “Restless Punk”, this time Arbiter and Tolga teams up for a split EP in order to further define the essence of VENT. “Resuscitation” is a great starter track which aligns the motoric synapses for a night of repetitive locomotive dark magic. Gradually it builds into a state where it surpasses the body’s ability to filter it out due to its sheer sonic mass, and it animates the listener into a state of blind locomotion. It resucitates from the unmoving routine of everyday and lets you breathe again in the bliss of danse macabre. Continuing the theme is “Startling Neuromancy” which sheds a sliver of moonlight turqoise over the dancefloor, on which it bestows a timeless quality. It shocks its audience with apocacryphic whispers of forgotten arts and secrets, and induces a state of conductance between this world and forgotten realms where mind and body has always been understood as one entity. On the B-side, now that the portal is established, a cry rings out from the other side that permeates thoughts of peace with the absurd notion of finding “Serenity” in chaos. Like a sandstorm rolling over the horizon this track is a grainy mass of particles with a combined weight of a neutron star. Serenity can now be found everywhere. After all patterns have been shattered and all tables overthrown, an shape is silouetted against the stormy backdrop. A building which conforms to no law of physics stands tall, a proof of the channeling which has just taken place. Mind and body has again been merged together and the sigil of this is the “Ziggurat”, a beacon that emits a rhythmic signal unceasing and timeless

VENT forges new alliances, as Dee Grinski and Tolga Baklacioglu joins forces to explore musical synergies on a collaborative LP release of drone alchemy, eternal rhythms and harrowing vocalisations, which explores the lightless mazes of subconscious voids, teasing at barely understood taboos. Tolga’s past explorations of unrelenting industrial sounds are further refined, and enforced with Dee’s vocal talent that covers a wide range of expression - from commanding and authoritative to harrowing howls of disembodied despair. They invite us to come with on a journey towards the lightless fringes of cognisance.

Bana’s compositions display layer after layer of colourful enigmatic veils, hinting at an inner core of darkness whilst remaining playful and intuitive. Her ideas expand over the length of this LP, and beyond that, further into our minds and bodies with the reverberations of her sounds.

VENT is revisited by an old friend, bringing visions and prophecies of times to come. Arbiter’s message is bleak and machinistic, telling of a future where objects and subjects lose their boundaries and entangle. Pockets of resistance will never give in to the oppressive powers that be, and will dance to the never ending percussive rhythms and melodies they worship. The revolution is not in sight for them, but never forgotten.

tolga baklaciouglu - No Title
VENT looks inwards to its core and delivers seven meditations from label curator and manager Tolga Baklacioglu. A series of questions on the same subject: “Who dictates what is a transgression - what is a sin?”. The journey inwards is propelled by Tolga’s drilling enquiries. On this record you will find nameless tools and a man in the moon pulling his levers, but no answers.

VENT is receiving another dose from enfant terrible Cindy, and it’s just like the relief of the hair of the dog that bit you. Relentless and distorted, Cindy weaves hypnotic spells of repetition, reminiscent of basement hardcore, punk and no-wave influences. Seldom has one heard such artistry using solely a 909 hihat. To round the package of, Rebekah adds her take on the aesthetic and holds nothing back.

VENT is happy to deliver yet another take on stripped back essential techno. Stephanie Sykes has had the opportunity to entertain many dancefloors since her last ep on VENT, and we are astonished with her artistic progression. The sonic imagery is smoky and bass heavy, perfect for those heady dancefloor experiences. And as if the package isn’t perfect already, Cassegrain delivers an absolute killer remix with raw, truly minimalistic techno.

miss sunshine - revealed
VENT loves raw and unpretentious techno. The second love dose comes from no other than Miss Sunshine, who has distilled her intimate knowledge of techno dance floors worldwide for us into two driving tracks - one of which is remixed by Zadig. In this instalment, Miss Sunshine plays with the dichotomy between the feelings of entrapment and revelation, and does so in the language that VENT prefers to communicate with: no-nonsense, stripped down techno. “Trapped” is filled to the brim, curled tightly into position ready to burst with kinetic energy. Like a compressed spring, it waits to be released and yield to its essence, free of containment. “Revealed” on the other hand is an amalgamation between relaxedness and vital energy, as its cool pads contrast with the tireless percussive rhythm. To reveal does not mean that it shows, it means that it lets one see. Zadig's remix takes “Trapped” to another place, high and deep at the same time, where he binds the listener to the state that only techno can bring to mind and body. Some call it Detroit, some call it transdimensional beingness. Come with us and enjoy a stay in the quantum state between trapped and revealed.

The first release is from Arbiter, which is a new moniker from Ingemar Stalholm. Arbiter sets out to catch the mood of long northern nights and the smile of underground party revelers, by combining his curiously personal sense of harmony with clockwork percussion and a moderate touch of grit and distortion. Gothiscandza is the name of what old Roman explorers theorised was the northern city from which the yeats was stemming from, thus the heart of Scandinavia. Arbiter’s EP is the journey to there. Night Transporter is an aerodynamic toolesque thing, painting a picture of dust and graffiti lined city streets. Over a relentless rattling beat a flickering reel projects traces of afterglow. The track is gritty like an industrial district, but full of hidden pockets that people can find freedom and sanctuary in. Drown is inebriated and frank, with darkness around the edges of vision. It’s a rude poetry, laden with crude percussion, unhaltingly and with an overwhelming melody. It helps you shrink your world in that pleasant way a dancefloor does. Nomad is an ode to unceasing movement and inner chest momentum. A massive kick drum thunders forward while a caustic acid line spins like a compass needle next to a magnet. Nomad is the largest track in the pack, another techno beast bred in the forests of the North. Finishing track Gigsponk is performed behind heavy eyelids with acid trace remnants and flashbacks of self-confidence. Sultry bass and eager drums make for a rhythmic climax in this peculiar world view. A pagan kiss of parting, but at the same time a promise of new encounters.
