On a fishing trip two years ago, the two main guys behind Africaine 808: D Leyers and Nomad - went to a tackle shop to buy some creepy crawlies (saltwater worms), not knowing that they were about to make a life changing discovery. In front of the shop a blind man was jammming on a little electronic organ, stomping his feet, singing, growling and basically making a scene. The boys were quite impressed with the fella, who introduced himself as 'Blind Double D'. They offered to bring him home and record him. He turned the offer down, but offered instead that they could record him on the spot in front of the tackle shop - if they bought him a bottle of good Bourbon. He explained that he would never set foot into a studio again in his life: he was sick of music production and the music industry in general, and that he just wanted this bottle of Bourbon and to be left alone. The boys got him the bottle, and recorded Blind D.D. on the spot with a tape recorder they borrowed from the tackle shop. Unfortunately, the tape was stored in one of the tackle boxes over the trip, and some of the creepy crawlies crawled into the tape and stank it all up. This added some extra funk to the recording. With Dirk and Nomad's usual studio trickery and production skills, they created the two versions of this very very funky, creepy, stanky track. We hope you'll enjoy it as much as we do. This record is dedicated to Blind D.D, wherever he is...

I was deep in Texas when a call came through..."Hey man it's Cherry ! ...We got some sick new shit for you, gonna blow your mind" I waited nervously for the package. it arrived two weeks later. I slipped the hot black acetate from its wrapper and placed it on the turntable... Wired guitars wail like banshees on heat, primal beats erupt drenched in dark juice from roots of trees slick with crunk. Flutes and bells hang like exotic flowers that reek of jungle sex and all night long the pulse goes on and on and on' As usual Cherry was right...this most surely is one sick motherfucker of a record. Don't get me wrong there's warped beauty here aplenty but you gotta take it easy. Don't ingest it all at once...make sure you're in comfortable surroundings, trust me I know...six months later and I'm still feeling the burn.

He released the Todd Modes / Bobby Dolo EP on the cult underground label M1 Sessions, and as Cosmic Handshakes with Dial 81 they put out an EP called 'The Delicate Details'. Now he teams up with Golf Channel's own wild man Mike Severson from the psychedelic Disco rock outfit Heroes of the Galleon Trade. After a session one night, the two step out for a cold one and bump into burly biker bar bandit Randy Winter and the singer song writer sex visionary Emily Infinity. After a few drinks they invited them back to the studio and the vocals were set. Put on your jean jacket slip on your leather boots and ready yourself for a night thrill ride. Taking Chris Munoz's (aka The Sexican's) take on 'Sometimes' from the forthcoming Spike remix LP 'Orange Cloud Version' as its starting point, Golf Channel favourite Justin Van Der Volgen shunts this bad boy that little bit further through the doors of the club, puts something on its tongue and kicks it into the big room. Beefy drums, a stoopid fresh bass line, big vocals and a tough, explosive, rocky guitar riff ensure this one has anthem written all over it. Flip over for 4 more unheard Spike gems, little lost nuggets that didn't find their way on to the much loved LP 'Orange Cloud Nine' but need to be heard: 'You Can Do It' is much in demand already amongst those that know, and the closing cut 'Careful' is a fragile beauty. Tracks range from blissful, boogie influenced house music (Adriatic Bolt) to the 1992 style Primal Scream psychedelic chugging banger (Quando) via sunny acid (Quiet Force) and deep emotional vocal led ambience (I Don't Care Who You Are). From a basement studio in Hackney, East London comes PAYFONE's 2nd release on GOLF CHANNEL - QUARANTINE b/w PADRE, PRAY FOR US. Following on from 2014's extremely well received PARADISE heater, PAYFONE continue down a similar path for the A side QUARANTINE. Featuring once again 24 year old vocal powerhouse Louis Howard Jones, QUARANTINE is a semi auto biographical take on the hardships of a an underprivileged youth, set against a tough Phil Passera production that sounds more New York City 1984 than New Port County 2004 (Jones was born and raised in Cardiff). Cruising at 120 BPM, the dark funk guitar intro gives way to some heavy slap bass and deep synth that touches Michael Jackson's THRILLER before the direct and brutal vocals of Jones hit you right between the eyes. PADRE, PRAY FOR US is a bizarre Afro-Cuban inspired homage to Passera's Italian father Sergio ( who's telephone call can be heard on the songs intro).
