SIDE D 01 I'm not there 02 Next Time (Grenier Remix)
The name "Sabota" comes from the infamous area in Nelson BC, where kids congregate late at night to smoke weed, hook up and watch the sun come up. Both Max Ulis and Robbie Slade (of Humans) both have (if somewhat indirect) roots in the area, making it a fitting concept for their collaboration. With the release of "Next Time" on Discobelle., Sabota immediately caught the attention of journalists and fans alike, and before any kind of formal release they have played SXSW, Sled Island in Calgary, Vancouver International Jazz Festival with Nosaj Thing, and Symbiosis Gathering. The two full-time music collaborators have been making ethereal goodness. The bumbling synths and beats harmonize together filling your ears with a whimsical wonderment.
Vital Sales Points:
This is a brand new collaboration between 2 very talented, and separately quite successful artists. Robbie Slade, is one half of Humans, and Max Ulis has been a lynch pin in the West Coast Electronic Music scene for over a decade. After establishing themselves as prolific artists on other projects, with Sabota, their individual sounds (which range from techno, bass, and house to vocal heavy pop music) are being synthesized in a highly nuanced and beautiful way.

Pressed lovingly on 180 gram vinyl, with art from the talented Evan Geltosky, Sabota returns after a bit of a hiatus with some music they are very proud of. These songs have been getting played in their live set over the last couple years and it's time they saw the light of day for dj's and music collectors alike.

cafe lanai - lanai
Special Remarks: Limited Edition 12" vinyl
Tracklist 12": A1 Lanai 5:00 A2 Le Stud 4:40 B1 Girl Music 2:35 B2 So 4:05 B3 Skyboyy 3:50
Info:
Cafe Lanai is a duo in paradise. Friendship and music at once led vocalists/producers Michael Brock and Forever to adventure together to Pahoa, Hawaii. Originating with the absorption of tropical sounds and antiquated island imagery, the project made a " sweet, sweet double espresso debut" with their deep first single 'Lanai'. On their debut 'Paradise' EP, Cafe Lanai enlists the spirit of humid rainforests and black sand beaches, imploring you to close your eyes and throw your body to the beat. Infused with interweaving vocals, sultry lyrics, sweaty synths and the flyest rhythms for house heads and disco souls, "Entitled Paradise, the record pairs subtly tropical textures with the more subdued strains of house and disco, as well as bits of dark-tinted R&B. "Lanai" is one example of what that sonic concoction can yield." - XLR8R "Split in two, "Lanai" narrates from light to dark, with a naked synth breakdown as the divide. Precise percussive hits cut through layers of warm analog streams, the mood alters, and vocals fade away." - Thump/Vice

Info:
Following up his recent Basic EP for Vancouver-based Hybridity Music, Project Pablo's latest offering will be released on August 5, 2014. Three raw heavily swung funky playful house "Utensils" is aimed straight at the dance-floor…Over top of dark gritty rolling grooves, Pablo layers frenetic vocal snippets, cheeky jazzy chord stabs, and warm resonant synth melodies. The release is "tape saturated, swung-out house music; hints of the old and new."
Project Pablo is the latest moniker of Patrick Holland (formerly 8prn). Over the last couple of years the young producer has been making some waves within the West Coast underground electronic scene, producing a slew of remixes, and curating mixes for i-D Magazine, Do Androids Dance, and the Slowcast. He also runs the label, ASL Singles Club in collaboration with Heartbeat(s) and Chef. The label was recently featured on thump and xlr8r. Project Pablo's own production is diverse, moving between a more experimental/ambient sound to classic Chicago House. He recently played SXSW in collaboration with installation artist Charles Long, and will playing a number of festivals throughout the summer; Sled Island, Bass Coast and Shambhala.

*Traps received a 4/5 on Resident Advisor
Humans, are an electronic music duo based in East Vancouver BC. Following the success of Avec Mes Mec (2010), Humans released 'Traps' March 6th on Hybridity Music.
Since Robbie Slade and Peter Ricq met in 2009, Humans have been in a constant state of growth. In 2010 they opened for Broken Social Scene, Crystal Method, the Junior Boys, and Clipse, and played the Shambhala Music Festival. In 2011 they played Glasslands Gallery in NY and festivals such as, SXSW NXNW, WEMF, the New Forms Festival and Big Time Out. Humans latest EP emerges with obvious maturation, each track carrying a depth of sound, evolved production, and focused vision, while never straying from their early commitment to make music for the dancefloor. The duo recently played SXSW and CMW and are set to tour with Young Empires this summer.
