after successful ep collapsed (r-n116) the bristol based project strikes back with a full length album on raster-noton. once more james ginzburg & paul purgas challenge the perceptual boundaries between noise and music and the potential for both technology and architecture to embed and codify themselves within sound. recur is presented as emptyset's third studio album, continuing on from their work with demiurge the material examines the central themes of time, structure and recursion, through the analysis of scale and the interaction of both formal and fractured sonics. the album furthers the project's exploration of rhythm, dislocation and feedback within the framework of full frequency sound, structural abstraction and analogue processing. the work examines how notions of time interact with both experience and form, and the resulting modes through which this affects sound through compression and rarefaction and the forcing of signal thresholds to their critical point.

Emptyset, - Avichi

Emptyset, - Avichi
After the big success of their "Altogether Lost" release, CLR presents you another one of those clearly unusual tracks by Bristol based experimental Techno duo Emptyset. The original of "Avichi" is an innovative production with eminent attention to each single element. It is stripped down to the absolute basics, consisting of little more than huge bass - which makes everything around vibrate, an irresistible, characteristically diversified groove and some sensibly placed noises. After their recent milestone release on CLR, Emptyset have managed to craft a truly dignified follow up.
The choice of the remixing artist definitely makes perfect sense, as we have one of the experts for slightly twisted and noisy, yet elegant and atmospheric Techno productions on the case. Monoloc´s remix of "Avichi" is comparatively straightforward, also with a compelling accentuation on the lower bass frequencies. One of Frankfurt´s up and coming producers has delivered a very respectable alternative to the original.
CLR054 is a piece of solid workmanship with a vanguard edge. It is a solid release which will most certainly draw some attention.

Atom™ - ich bin meine maschine
30 years anniversary of raster media edition repress!
ich bin meine maschine is a spiritual track / ich bin meine maschine is a musical track / ich bin meine maschine is a scientific track
to underline this tryptic statement and to demonstrate the diversity of one of atom™'s compositions that appeared on his 2013 »HD« album, raster now re-releases the long sold-out vinyl ep featuring remixes by boys noize, function and atom™ himself.?? »ich bin meine maschine«, in an elaborate manner, illustrates uwe schmidt's main musical concern - the exploration of electronics in pop music. inspired by a statement of the cybernetician heinz von foerster, atom™ generated a message that is playing around with a widely-cited kraftwerk quotation, turning "ich bin eine maschine" into "ich bin meine maschine" (i am my machine). besides the album version of »ich bin meine maschine«, the ep features some dominantly techno influenced versions that perfectly connect the pop attitude of »hd« with dancefloor functionality. the boys noize remix shows off alexander ridha's deft skills for translating atom™'s futuristic pop into his own rough and driving electronic language. on the other hand, atom™'s »linear remix« breaks down the original structure of the song and turns it into a reduced and much straighter, forward looking composition. function - one of techno's true underground heroes - provides a remix that is breathing the air of solid and hypnotic club music, in which just the essential elements are streamlined and condensed into perfection. all 3 remixers adapt the track to their particular universe. by doing so, they prepare the 12" vinyl for its final destination – the club.

gomila park - Calculus
the penultimate issue of raster-noton's unun series features »gomila park«, a new project by the two swedish musicians martin rössel and carl michael von hausswolff that started in spring 2013 in palma de mallorca. on their first ep released as a duo, they present three rather unconventional and diverse tracks. »leibniz«, for example, is characterized by a heavy rock attitude with lots of distortion and screaming guitar riffs. the b-side on the other hand, including the tracks »calculus« and »ramon llull«, is the more experimental part. considering only the track titles, »gomila park« is a homage to two of the first mathe- maticians and philosophers that helped developing the binary system and, generally speaking, the digital world. but despite all that, »gomila park« is also a matured piece of work that was held in trust for at least two years. it's once more an inspection of a fundamental possibility of music, a reference to the past. similar to mika vainio's »vandal« ep, »gomila park« echoes the tradition of rock (music) and is thus the counterpart of a younger, historically unbur- dened generation of producers like ueno masaaki or kyoka
