Electronic funk holy grail written and superbly arranged by the likes of the south Italian-based singer and multi-instrumentalist Mario Rosini. This incredibly rare original 7" reportedly dropped in the mid-80s during the blueprint of the Italodisco era and, in some way, it fixes perfectly those feelings but with an upgrade that places it at a level to be considered as a classic of the dance scene without the time and genre limits. Fully restored from the original source the reissue comes courtesy of Erezioni, after a quite long time of interrupted transmissions. More

Bubbling, detailed, beautifully-worked house music from the Parisian. I Want You tracks a jazz-not-jazz snippet of piano onto the dance floor; The Way You Look At Things steals the show, with its meticulous, highly evocative layering, and clipped, bewitched swing. Outstanding More

Rene's return to Blank Slate, one year on, with two further excursions in grooving, minimal, dubwise house music, moody and haunted; a kind of widescreen steppers, Berlin style. Right from the off, the Cywilizacja sequel is one step beyond, with hectic, scattered claps, and filter effects running into the distance. Again, melody and ambience are conjured from the moans and whispers of old films, but more pressingly than before. Half-submerged synths stick close to the hard-driving 808 beat. Midway, the elements become unglued, slipping out of synch, going off on their own... before the bizarre climax. Lamia retains the disquiet but eases up a little on the theatrics. Bobbling bass and queasy pads pock the orchestral miasma; some singing whipped from a student Tarkovsky opens the way forward for the bones of a rhythm.

Michal Wolski wastes no time with Derivate, his first appeance on vinyl. Clipped percussions arc and swoop around a throbbing 909 kick as a grinding bass and ragged open hats begin their dark business. Crystalline lead synths raise the tension and climax with a brutal filtered clap and jarring percussion.
'Remorse from Londoner Shcaa switches the gears. A journey into a clicking, hissing vortex of toms, wandering filtered bass, and impeccable vocal sampling. Somehow he wrangles an infectious groove from this dizzying mess, contending with phased splashes of water, menacing piano notes and squelching audio sprites. 'Comute brings us back into the smoke and sweat with Black Pressure, a steadily rising freight train of a track. Rolling low toms and driving, merciless hats suddenly swing down as the sky splits open and the chord, the only chord you need, bursts through. This is the chord that everyone, seeing each other in a flash of light, understands. It is all we need. 'WV closes the EP in fine style, for the Mexican's sophomore vinyl appearance. Iinthecity pits heaving, clinking drums against ricocheting chords. A prickly hat and clap hold steady as the song reaches its melodic climax. Simple, strange and beautiful.' More

Blank Slate presents the debut of the Düve project, a collaboration between Soren Jahan and Ali Çakir. Combining live recorded drums and
instrumentation, samples from vintage 78s, internet videos and analogue electronics, this fifth instalment holds nothing back. Karv starts out with a brisk pace, jarring acoustic drumming held together by a sly shuffling 808 beat with a brooding syncopated bassline. Hints of Santur and robust, crackling horn explorations bring the duo's Turkish influences directly to the dancefloor. Woman steps back from the smoky fervour of the A1. John Evangelista takes centre stage on the bouzouki amidst echoing steps, soaring clarinet and bare-bones rhythmic accompaniment. Winding, filtered hand drums and flutes provide the counterpoint. Streets changes gears entirely. Brutal, unrelenting shouts and live street dance bands cut up between two duelling drum sequences in 9/8. Somewhere between breakbeat, collage and alternative house music, not for the faint of heart.
Closing the EP in style, 660 takes things further. A synthesizer voice, alternately gravelly, droning and forlorn, takes flight supported by thundering, tripping percussion. A nine minute excursion with a climactic melodic peak, the way only Jahan and Çakir know how.

Dan Ghenacia's influence on the European underground over the last 25-plus years cannot be overstated. He has run vital labels, hosted essential parties, laid down definitive DJ sets, and produced seminal sounds both solo and as part of the tastemaking Apollonia trio with friends Shonky and Dyed Soundorom. His understanding of house music across the ages and continents is second to none, and he brings all that experience to this fantastic new solo EP.

The bumpy and infectious 'Rouge Ou Noir' opens with looped and funky guitar riffs and neon synths winding their way through dusty, dynamic drums. Cooing vocal stabs ramp up the steaminess of this most tasteful party starter. The superb 'Chilly' has a bustling blend of louche rhythms and rugged synth arps that dart about the mix. They hurry along beneath swirling vocal sounds up top with hints of Metro Area magic and tripped-out colours, all making it a characterful groove. Last but not least, 'Chilly' gets dubbed out and becomes a more low-slung sound with a fleshy bassline popping up the choppy, playful and synth-infused rhythm. More

Keita Sano joins forces with fellow Japanese producer XTAL and makes a welcome return to Delusions following last years amazing Love Is Emotion EP.

Those familiar with Keita’s production will know that his sound is a unique blend of raw, crunchy disco beats, touches of acid and a left-field sensibility which creates an intense and captivating atmosphere on the dance floor. A vibe that has seen his tracks become secret weapons for DJ’s as diverse as Ivan Smagghe, Pablo Fierro, DJ Nature, Frank Tope and Hot Toddy.

Kicking off the EP we have a track called Broken, a high energy and uplifting slice of loopy filter disco which hits all the right notes. Things roll along perfectly, building to a crescendo as a full on string break cuts loose, everything dropping away before slamming in with timbale fills joining the party.

Let Us Have Nice Days, The Sun is up next and makes great use of a classic Italo bassline to drive the track along whilst dub delay FX and side chained pads keep the energy bubbling. Bending bass synth notes bring an extra bit of drama without upsetting the flow and rolling 16th note intensity from the bassline. Feel the love!

Closing the release, we have Time Passing which slows the BPM slightly for a chugging slice of string-drenched gorgeousness. Drop this at sunset and watch as this melancholic gem creates a little bit of magic on the dance floor. More

It’s 2024 and Egyptian-born artist of South Sudanese origin Sam Alfred has had a monstrous 12 months. A new year means stepping in a new zone with new tunes. This is Forward Step. First is the title track “Forward Step (Journey Mix)”, an epic cow-bell-laden house hammer that blooms into a euphoric flower. Running with a 90’s club flavour, Sam lays airy synths over punchy piano and rave stabs while an all-powerful speech plays out, celebrating the idea that we’re all in control of writing our futures. There’s a bubbling over of excitement on this one as it builds and builds and builds! Up next is “Care 4 U” – a crunchy drum club roller paired with fuzzy bass tones and a super hooky vocal loop. A section that’s been lodged in our brains from the moment we heard it. Toss in airy pads and a key melody that’s also impossible to forget and this track’s got you hook, line and sinker. In true Sam Alfred style, “Care 4 U” is yet more proof that this lad is a wizard at writing jacked-up club cuts, each full of fizz. Third in line comes “Keep It” a relentless hypnotic piece of techno. Outer space synths drone while shuddering percussion rumbles beneath. It’s here where the EP takes a darker turn. The curtain closer and focus track for the EP drop is “Distance” – an acidic house track to seriously lock and load to. Characterised by sharp hi-hats and lively keys, as its name suggests this one goes and goes and goes. More

Exploration, collaboration and curiosity define the rhythm at the beating heart of Mehmet Aslan’s exemplary compositions. The Swiss-born producer of Turkish heritage has already forged a singular path through production, DJing and full-band performances, navigating the more esoteric corners of Berlin’s club culture without sacrificing his musical heritage or innate creativity. Opener ‘Spectra’ provides a forceful, almost industrial breakbeat that establishes the exigency of the album as well as its sense of wonder, while ‘Euphoria’ reaches the potency of its promise slowly, with Aslan’s modular melodies meeting the flourishing percussion of guest player and multi-instrumentalist, POPP. Finally, ‘Aura’ delivers a cinematic conclusion, mixing an elegiac organ motif, haunting guitar chords and the prophetic sense of a scorched earth. Here, with patience and soaring production, Aslan once more makes the abstract and the unthinkable somehow tangible, mixing in sampled birdsong. Accordingly, ‘Auguri’ is being released in accordance with EarthPercent, the music industry’s climate foundation, co-founded by Brian Eno. A portion of the album’s publishing will be credited as part of ‘The Earth As Your Co-Writer’ initiative, allowing artists to directly credit The Earth in their new compositions. Here, streaming and publishing from Aslan’s recorded sounds are automatically paid back to a number of vital initiatives worldwide. From the vaults! 1992 KMS records pressure straight from Detroit, still capable of causing much damage on dance-floors in 2016! This 4 track monster pulls together a pretty heavy cast of Detroit Techno and deep House royalty in the shape of Chez Damier, MK and Derrick May all contributing various mixes and versions across the EP. If deep, driving, soul drenched House is your bag you will be in heaven with "Can you feel it", a truly classic slice of sophisticated dance music indeed. All of the mixes are killers, but it's the "MK Dub" mix, also known as the "New York Dub" that really steals the show, here MK and May combine to craft a classy, slamming, emotive string driven jam that pushes all the right buttons. As usual, essential retrospective action here from one of the most legendary dance labels out of Detroit. All tracks remastered and fully licensed with the sole permission of Mr. Kevin Saunderson. 100% legit and not ready to quit! More
