The Cellar Boyz ‘Pay Me’ is taken from Ben Cenac’s timeless ‘Cozmic House E.P’ on Thug Records. Pay Me which was recorded in 1986 is the only track from the Cozmic House E.P that had available parts. The stems for Deeper & Deeper, Seems To Me & Who Loves You were never recorded. This was due to the fact that all of Ben's projects through out the ‘90s were tracked MIDI only at mix down, with only the vocals being recorded to tape. ! Thug would never have had the opportunity to release Ben Cenac’s Cozmic House 12" if it had not been for Simoncino. Simoncino did all the A&R for the record. A gift not only for Thug but any fans of Ben Cenac's amazing productions. With that in mind, Simoncino has provided 2 remixed versions of Pay Me, alongside a remix from close friend Nicholas. !

A demo tape, sent to Capitol Records by The Trash Company in the early 90's, garnered this curt response from then President of the R&B Division, Joy Bailey: "Some music was never meant to be heard." Thug Records returns with one of the most intriguing releases to grace the catalogue so far. Not restricted by any one scene, Max Monroe of The Trash Company produces a hypnotic medley of original hard edge rhythm & blues, soul dance and classic psychedelic punk wave textures. Armed with a condition known as Synesthesia [meaning he perceives sounds, words and letters in terms of color] and a 4 track cassette recorder, The Trash Company has spent the last 30 years as a bedroom recording genius.
It wasn’t until recently that the magnitude and quality of his unreleased collection of tape recordings were discovered. Unearthed by The Scorpio Brothers - Troy Hurt and Marty Key, 2 record collectors from Richmond VA. They discovered a copy of "Come to Me Softy"; a 45 by The Trash Company recorded and released in 1979 at the former Broad Street recording studio [Alpha Audio]. The record was discovered in a second hand singles box at a tiny record store called Carrington’s Music in Petersburg VA. Inspired by this weird record, Troy Hurt hunted Max down using various crate digger methods and eventually found he had local contact details. After getting in touch, Max sent across a number of tracks that had been collecting dust in his closet for the last couple of decades. The Scorpio Brothers were blown away... this led to the release of the Trash Company’s now critically acclaimed 2nd album, “The Earle Hotel Tapes 1979 – 1993”, which is a collection of music written in Room 111 of The Earle from that period. Presented here on Modern Love and in vinyl format on Thug Records are 6 new unreleased gems. The Trash Company’s recordings are starkly honest, deeply personal and ahead of their time. Written in the late 80’s / early 90’s these tracks have been sitting on DAT tapes for over 20 years. The tracks themselves feature Ben’s wife Yvette Cenac a/k/a Vai Cee from Dream 2 Science and Lady E of Newcleus, Gregg Fore a/k/a Buster Fhott from Dream 2 Science and Push/Pull, The Cellar Boyz a/k/a the original Jam-On DJs and finally Shareen Evans. A career musician, Ben’s instrumentation and programming is timeless, its a sound that cannot be replicated. We are humbled to be working on a project such as this. Don’t sleep, its a rare 12” vinyl weapon!!!

Jacksonville (Leeds U.K) releases his first original track for Thug Records. The release also coincides with the launch of our vinyl arm and marks a new direction and ethos for Thug Records. After being heavily inspired by a 4 month trip to Berlin in late 2009 and by a number of fantastic labels and artists in the U.S.A, we have decided to make shift back to a more organic platform. To quote Levon Vincent, the medium is the message. Now for the tracks, Dusk is a deep, bumping techno gem that grinds and pulsates with smatterings of acid, drum hooks and creepy vocal stabs.
