His story has been an exciting rollercoaster ride going from being discovered by Secret Cinema through Myspace, to being picked up by Cocoon and their booking agency and now touring the globe as a part of the Gem and Bonheur agency roster. September 20th, Egbert will be playing a sold out, astonishing 6 hour solo live set in Melkweg Amsterdam to kick off his album promotion tour. The album takes you on a trip through Egbert's vision of melodic techno. Well produced and euphoric but without stepping in to known territory. In his own words: 'One thing I often miss at techno parties is warmth. I would like to bring that back to techno'. While his live sets are usually filled with percussion and rhythm, this album compiles the tracks that bring warmth to his set. We also get a taste of Egbert's raw side with the powerful pumping grooves and punishing dark basslines on 'Tegno' and 'Shulgin'. Since the overwhelming success of his first Cocoon maxi "Vreugdevuur", Egbert Van Der Gugten has proved that he received the advance praise of being one of the most promising talents of the Dutch electronic music scene with good cause. The myspace discovery of Jeroen Verheji aka Secret Cinema had already gained a permanent position in Sven Väth's record case with his track "Magie" on Michel de Hey's EC Records, and also "Vreugdevuur" belongs to the most successful releases on Cocoon Recordings this year. Consequently, his follow-up 12" continues to celebrate the junction between European Progressive House tradition, Detroit melancholy, Tech House with a heart full of pumping Energy and decorative ornaments in a multi-faceted and tremendously charming way. And so, Egbert sets his first exclamation mark with "Open", a sensual Über-Track whose incredibly beautiful break sends one shiver after the other down your spine. "Strak" is similarly vibrating of sonic-electric energy around a percussive staccato of bells and a heartbreaking layer of sound. More

Ooooooh yeeeaaah!!! Haasten is here! One of techno's fastest rising stars brings his strongest EP to date with two huge tracks you will be hearing lot of this summer! Egbert returns to Gem... 'Haasten' (translates into hurrying) has been destroying crowds during Egbert's live sets around the globe for the past few months. A dark commanding bass line that skips over the beat is accompanied by a retro sounding orchestral jab to create what is looking to become one of this year's biggest techno tracks! The B-side 'Yourself' has also proven to be a crowd pleaser and is paving the way for the future of percussion based techno. The punishing drums, deep basses, narrow mids and rattling hats kick ass throughout the track before taking a break for 30 seconds to introduce some melody and continue on mercilessly afterwards.

Egbert Van Der Gugten is currently one of the most promising talents within the field of electronic dance music. Jeroen Verheji alias Secret Cinema, whose attention was drawn to Egbert via myspace.com, invited him on the spur of the moment to his parties and his studio last year, and thus smoothed the way for Egbert to the Dutch Techno scene. After his debut on Lo-Fi Stereo, it was mainly his "Vlammen-EP" on Michel de Hey's EC Records in February 2009, which went down a bomb on the dancefloors and belonged to the basic vinyl inventory of Sven Väth's record case in this season. With "Vreugdevuur", Egbert still tops this and provides us with a musical exclamation mark that sets standards in harmonic but consequently demanding TechHouse somewhere in between Dub, Progressive House and Detroit. The subsonic bass around the central organ motif will be your companion in between dreaming and dancing in this late autumn, promised! A different sound approach is taken by the flipside "Groots Uitpakken" with its tremendously energetic wall of sound, a nocturnal trip through slow-motion vocal tatters, whose string breaks provide it with an irresistible pull. After a two year stop we decided there could be no better EP for Gem Records to return to pressing vinyl than this analogue tape recorded Kaap De Goede Hoop jam. "When we were putting together 363A everything just fell in to place" Kaap de Goede Hoop's Bobby van Putten says. "We spent an entire evening programming the equipment and tweaking with Robbert van der Bildt (also Kaap De Goede Hoop) John Mood and Eversines in the studio. After that we just hit record and started playing. Originally the track was close to 13 minutes long. All we changed afterwards was cutting a piece out to keep the energy up during the track. Everything else was spontaneous!". Mi Fella (as in Fela Kuti), was created with afrobeat in mind. The deep subby bass line rattling hats and high pitched chanting combined with echoey guitar sounds make for an amazing combination and a an absolutely unique track. Ramon Tapia complements the release with his more controlled yet equally energetic clean but rough sounding remix!

GEM010 features Ramon Tapia's own production 'Pelican' and 'Opal' in collaboration with Secret Cinema. The EP is completed by Belgian golden boy Steve Slight. A tasty 3 tracker! Ramon Tapia's solo track 'Pelican' on the X-side is a tribal tech house hammer that will go down a guaranteed killer on the floor. This is some seriously bangin' shit, people! On the Y1, Secret Cinema and Ramon team up to create a euphoric techey piece of work. On this jam, simplicity is its beauty. These two make for a great production duo! The Y2 comes from rising star Steve Slight who was introduced to us by Ramon as being one of Belgium's hottest producers at the moment. The first track we snatched up is 'Who Knows'. This is the most explosive one on the EP. A well balanced smooth yet energetic and raw techno track. Keep an ear out for this guy!

Created back in '94 by Secret Cinema, no one could have predicted how timeless this track would turn out to be! If you are in to electronic music and live on this planet, there's a 75 percent chance you'll recognise the weird reversed, reverbed piano riff! Now, for the first time, the original is available digitally with remixes by Slam, Egbert and Secret Cinema himself that made their way to vinyl as well. The massive techno tune from '94 is ready for a little update! It can be a challenge to remix a track with so much history, but all three managed to complement the original while giving a unique spin to the track. The Secret Cinema 2011 remix is a peak time main room power tool that will turn a big crowd into a riot any day. Slam take a deeper, more subtle approach that can hypnotize and rock a main room crowd without blowing their wigs off. Finally Egbert takes the track to a warmer funkier level, equipped with a funk-filled bass line and some warm pads over the top. A truly timeless package!!

Bier is an upfront melodic big room stomper with a big fat synth bouncing over the beat that gives the track its most defining feature. It has proven itself to be a huge crowd pleaser in Secret Cinema's and Egbert's sets. The title 'Bier' (beer) refers to the track's positive effect on drunk people A2 Peter Horrevorts & Dosem - Truetone
This collaboration with Peter is Dosem's first contribution to the label; A meaty electronic tech-houser. The kick and bass line form a solid train on which hats, percussion and melody comfortably ride along. Try and stop your ass from moving to this one!
B1 Roger Martinez - Jack This
Martinez also brings tech house to the Summer Sampler, but with an analogue feel. The rhythm provides plenty of funk, accompanying some nicely filtered synths and warm keys. There's a lot of energy bottled up in this one, making it useful either to funk up a techno set or to beef up a house set.
B2 Arjuna Schiks - Mahesvari
Mahesvari really gets the summer vibe going on the EP with a beautifully composed harp melody over the top of a lazy bassline and a calm beat. Nevertheless this track will be sure to bring more energy, love, peace and happiness to a dance floor than your average hit of ecstasy!
