From New Jersey via The Netherlands: longstanding US craftsman Joey Anderson makes his debut on Deeptrax with his inspiring new album... 'Exotic Sequence' His fourth LP to date, 'Exotic Sequence' is a fully instrumental deep dive into both Joey's machines and mindset, as he explains himself... "The title 'Exotic Sequence' stood out to me because throughout the LP I tended to use a sequencer for the main melody of most of the tracks. Almost every time I approach a track with techno intentions it eventually ends up being deep / housey," states the artist who broke through 15 years ago on Qu's Strength Music and has worked closely with the likes of Dekmantel and, more recently, Avenue 66. Now at home on the relatively new and positively thriving label arm of Dutch record store institution Deeptrax, Joey tells us where he's at with a body of work that poignantly reminds us that it's not the destination that counts; it's the journey we endure to get there. In this sense, 'Exotic Sequence' is the sound of Joey letting his instruments guide, inform and inspire him. Cuts like the constantly rising and hopeful 'Sky Children', the deep 808 bubbles and dreamy reflections of 'Behind The Valley' and the emotionally rich 'Stop' are just a handful of examples of Joey being lost in deep flow, channeling the creative energy in his studio. It lands exactly three years after his last album 'Rainbow Doll', neatly bookending the strangest and most surreal start to any decade we've lived through since house and techno culture took root in the 80s. A timeless document that looks forward and back and remains unhurried, thoughtful and crafted with longevity, 'Exotic Sequence' is arguably the most honest and frank side to Joey Anderson we've heard in his extensive career so far.

One NYC's brightest drops a beauty of a double LP on Dekmantel. Awesomely dope! TIP! Spring 2014 will see Dutch label Dekmantel release the debut full-length album from New Jersey producer, DJ and Inimeg Records boss Joey Anderson. Entitled After Forever, the album is the natural next step for a producer who has turned out plenty of deep and intriguing techno EPs for labels like Latency, Deconstruct Music and Syncrophone over the last couple of years. Having been championed by the connoisseur likes of Levon Vincent and DJ Qu before the rest of the world cottoned on, Anderson’s style has proved to be truly idiosyncratic, where near bottomless techno grooves get run through with haunted piano lines, shadowy synth work or elegant drones. There are barely ever any claps or snares, instead just plenty of deeply hypnotic kicks and plenty of noir tension. “Every track on the album has its own take on my personality, my mentality musically and my vision of off-dancefloor music,” says Joey. “I find it very difficult to create something for people just to like. I’d rather pay attention to making them get close to the album and uncover the ideas within it. Being my first LP, it’s dedicated to my two daughters, Akatriel and Auset.”As well as two tracks that were released on Anderson's previous Dekmantel EP, the album offers nine new cuts and kicks off with ‘Space Between Curtains’. Haunting, saddened piano keys linger in the air above metallic synth sounds for the emotive duration of the track. Then there’s the teary eyed, end-of-the-world yet optimistic vibe of ‘Space Colors Ideas’. After that various intimate moods are explored, from heavy and ominous on ‘Maidens Response’ to celestial and cautiously uplifting on ‘Archer’s Ceremony’ via ‘Amp Me Up’, which sees Anderson’s spacious and atmospheric style suck you in with its weird, gurgling machine noises unravelling above an unchanging drum track. It’s an album that demands and indeed warrants close inspection, and is the sort of work that really transports you deep into another world far away from here. With After Forever, then, Joey Anderson confirms he crafts moody and atmospheric techno like few others.

A recontextualized hybridization of that which is familiar to create the foreign.... Using classic Chicago, Detroit and New York as a reference, I sought to explore new sonic possibilities while limiting myself to the classic machines and sounds of the era that inspired me to dedicate my life to this art-form.
Revivalism was not my intent. Perhaps neo-futurism if any ism's must be assigned. That, and a strict code of minimalism. I aspire to use time, space, and absence, as well rhythm and sound, all in equal measure to create suggestive music (pun intended). Defined as much by what is not there as by what is. Music for travel. For Dance. For Contemplation. In a club among hundreds, or at home in bed. An album. Along player. A fantastical voyage through the soul and mind via abstract, minimalist etudes exploring the range of emotions that are joined to a particular year in my life. Using as few elements as possible to create the most emotive material I could, these studies are recorded documentation of one student's pursuits to master the craft of creating raw, yet elegant. Rich and sonorous, yet stripped down modern electronic music. For the club, at home, and everywhere between. Modern music for modern living. I hope to contribute to the progression of the form and create excitement in the next generation so that some of them will also be inspired to expressively create and add on to the culture. Peace

Sister Label to Vanguard Sound Anunnaki Cartel plays host to the fourth installment of the Vanguard Sound Series featuring 4 tracks from crew members Dakini9 (Lola), Chris Mitchell, DJ. Spider, and founder Amir Alexander. During the time since Vanguard Sound Vol. 3 launched the Vanguard Sound label, the series has reached a kind of cult classic status among the most dedicated U.S. underground vinyl collectors. As more and more people discover Alexander and his Crew of ultra talented DJ/Producers, their releases on discogs disappear and then reappear for three to five times their original price. Buy on sight status is quickly being achieved by all six members of this shadowy Crew. The four tracks contained in this release all touch base with the vibes already established by the Crew, while continuing to expand the sonic palette as well. Amir Alexander's Cypher is classic dirty analog at it's finest. With a slightly overdriven synth baseline leading the way, followed by restless percussion. Midway through, deep and mysterious pads create a dreamy texture as a spoken word passage muses about loyalty to those you came up with. Chris Mitchell's 213NL raises the temperature with Chris's signature "Phrenetic" drum programming under an SH101type acid baseline oscillating wildly as melodic strings soar. DJ Spider keeps things gutter with some Vanguard/ Plan B style street knowledge in the form of New World Resistance. An industrial/ futurist tech beat frenzy full of vocals dropping science about the New Word Order's plans for global domination.
Dakini9 closes the release by taking us to the depths and beyond with her deeply emotive work in the form of Rollercoaster to Nowhere. Sci fi atmospherics weave in and out of lushly serene pads while her always deadly serious percussion marks the time effortlessly. Time travel is evoked as the dulcet tones erode all sense of the here and now. Fall into infinity! For the collector's, this one is not to be missed as it is a rare Vanguard Volume on it's sister label Anunnaki Cartel with both logos on one record. Don't sleep..
