In late 1997, unsigned Melbourne producer Castel won a competition at a local club. The prize was certainly sought-after: a CD single release on leading local label DanceNet. That EP, “Estrel”, subsequently appeared in stores in 1998, but within two years Castel had packed away his Atari-ST, sold off his hardware and quit music for good. Thanks to Echovolt Records, Castel’s story now has a happier ending. 22 years after it was recorded, the unfeasibly gorgeous “Estrel” is finally appearing on vinyl alongside original bonus cut “Me & You” and a trio of similarly impressive unreleased productions from the period. “Estrel” is positivity personified – a melodious, morning-fresh blast of deep electro bliss rich in bustling drums, tuneful IDM style lead lines and darting, psychedelic electronics. It’s joined on side A by “Me & You”, a pitched-down chunk of hazy ‘90s electronica that wouldn’t have sounded out of place on one of Warp Records’ legendary Artificial Intelligence compilations. On side B, Castel opens up his archive of unreleased recordings for the very first time. The rush-inducing, bass-heavy swirl of “Safer Somewhere” – one of the last tracks he ever recorded and reminiscent of some B12 recordings from the period – is followed by the intergalactic ambient brilliance of “Latch” and the lilting, sun-bright bliss of breakbeat-driven shuffler “16/11/1998”, whose combination of weighty bottom-end and layered electronics neatly sums up the unheralded qualities of Castel’s previously forgotten work.

Echovolt is thrilled to finally bring you the work of the first Greek producer on their growing "reissue" catalog offering two ultra-rare recordings that lived on the shelf for exactly two decades. The then 16-year old Starcount recorded those two stripped-down cuts straight to DAT tape in
his bedroom studio in Athens during the late 90s between cutting classes and sailing in the Aegean Sea. Despite his young age both "Calma" and "Jeraldine" showcase top notch production skills with solid arrangements featuring the typical vocal samples of the period underlined by hypnotic melodies, jazzy chords and a densely populated pallet of drum hits. It is most likely that the above mentioned tracks might be the earliest Detroit influenced productions ever made in Greece around that time! Suitable for night cruising and any kind of rides with friends and family!

Echovolt expands its remit with the launch of a new series of mini-albums with the first edition coming from Templeyard Studios, a recently formed project of Berlin-based Greek artists Miltiades and Goolyk. A rough, rugged and raw set of Boyd Jarvis productions finally receive their first official airing on Echovolt. Legendary Colonel Abrams's vocal lines power through Yamaha CS-15 workouts with sprinkles of dub atop bounding drum-box workouts. This fourth release in Echovolt growing re-issue catalog includes the bass heavy, passionate thumper "You Got Me Running", the much feted first draft of "Release the Tension", which only ever saw press as an alternate production - with different vocals - by a band named Circuit. And the previously unreleased, Peach Boys-esque, downtempo, surreal soul jam Celebrate as the cherry on top! All tracks written by Boyd in Timmy Regisfords bedroom studio and recorded straight to cassette tape in the mid eighties.

Cultured Greek outlet Echovolt serves up its second EP of the year and this one comes from Amsterdam techno pair Crystal Maze aka Gstring and MarcoAntonio Spaventi. 'Black Orchid EP' contains two deep and long techno jams, and one shorter track characterized by an otherworldly beat. There are moments in which the production places plenty of focus on melody, while elsewhere eerie synth sounds conjure an uneasy sense of terror that turns into trippy, loopy techno rhythms. There’s plenty of warmth, atmosphere and inventiveness in all of the three tracks on offer: together they make an ideal combination that's suitable for both club use and heady home listening.
