Island Rescue marks the first release from San Francisco's Dan Judd under his Sorcerer alias in three years. Following his time in Kindercore drone-pop outfit Call And Response, Judd started recording solo as Sorcerer and released two acclaimed albums, White Magic (2007) and Neon Leon (2009), on the prolific and influential UK label Tirk Records. In 2007, his 12" single "Surfing At Midnight" chimed with the international Cosmic Disco revival and, along with the Prins Thomas remix on its B-side, became an underground hit, featuring on popular compilations curated by the likes of Lo Recordings and Junior Boys. Always active in various projects, Judd recently collaborated with Terri Loewenthal (of Italians Do It Better/Telle duo Rubies) on the first release for their live dance music project SHOCK (out last year on Voltaire). He also has a longstanding creative partnership with Sam Grawe (aka Hatchback) as Windsurf, and with their unique brand of deep MOR they have notched up releases such as a remix for LCD Soundsystem on DFA/EMI and various albums and EPs on Lo Recordings, Full Pupp subsidiary Internasjonal and Japanese label Catune. With this release on new Diskotopia sub-label A Kind Of Presence, Sorcerer fuses his trademark Californian Balearic sound with influences gleaned from 70s Afro-funk tapes for three new original tracks, backed up by Myakkah and Greeen Linez remixes. Strong support has been coming in for the release from The Wire (who have played tracks from the release on their ReWired radio show), Spin Magazine (who featured an exclusive stream of the release with a feature), Jon Tye, Gold Panda, Magic Touch, The Beat Broker, Ben Cook (Fucked Up, Yacht Club) and many more.
