B1 Pitto – Baila
B2 Pitto – Sammie (Pete Herbert Remix)
Release Info:
Pitto is not one to flood the scene with new music considering he’s only released two ep’s in the last three years. He takes the time to let ideas evolve and it’s clearly noticeable on last year’s EP on ‘Something Happening Somewhere’ sublabel ‘Ooshaa’, where his feel for an almost poppy hook is perfectly combined with his love for darker electronics. On the ‘Baila baila EP’ –his return to Heist after his last ep in 2018- he explores this path further. The EP is filled with live percussion, a dark and rolling acid line, chopped beats and catchy piano riffs. The three originals are accompanied by a remix courtesy of Pete Herbert that has ‘summer’ written all over it.
Opening track ‘Sammie’ has a beautiful sense of melancholy to it, where an emotional piano riff is combined with some 80’s tinged vocals and loads of live percussive elements for a smile inducing experience.
‘Discko’ takes a darker approach with a deep and ‘dubby’ low end and a guitar riff that wouldn’t be out of place on a Caribou track. The horn section and synth lead give it a real crossover appeal and it’s the kind of track you imagine working just as well on a summer festival as in a dark basement.
On the flip, there’s the title track ‘Baila’, a proto inspired acid stomper with a nice wink to early 90’s dance music vocals. An acid line gives the track its backbone, but it’s the combination of Pitto’s chords and instrumentation that give this track it’s unique edge.
The EP finishes off with Pete Herbert’s remix of ‘Sammie’. Pete’s version has that full-on summer appeal with his recognizable style of modern day island disco. He adds a bit of drama to the track with some big breakdowns, changeovers in the piano riff and turns the Balearic vibe up a notch with an added dreamy solo.
We’re happy to have Pitto back on Heist and this unique and diverse EP is one we hope will create a lot of smiles on the dance floor in the coming months.
Yours Sincerely,
Lars & Maarten

OOSSHA is a new platform of the SoHaSo imprint that focusses on a warmer landscape. It is an outlet for music that’s dedicated to house and alternative styles while always maintaining fierce and unique ingredients that conquer hearts. Pitto is the first artist to lead the OOSSHA way. His Panthers On The Roof EP is an ode to the wonderful and weird. Lepel Jazz’s infectious groove and skewed bass patterns serves as the main course dish here. I Do The Case With A Chase brings a more musical side to the kitchen table. Filtered sample chords, meticulous drum programming and vocal parts all work together in a well-oiled dancefloor curveball with a sense of acid tribalism. Prins Thomas reworks Lepel Jazz in an even more odd, and yes perverted, affair. Stripping the elements and utilizing hypnotizing descending synth arpeggio’s and sweaty field recordings to maximum effect. B2’s Dum Dum is a hymn to get through life smiling. With its irresistibly contagious vocal and wonky bassline, it’s a massive funk weapon and a worthy final dish to conclude a delicious menu.

Release Info:
As a Dutch label, we’re proud supporters of the homegrown sounds of guys like Nachtbraker, Frits Wentink and Fouk. Adding another Dutchie to our list of exquisite producers, we present you “Pitto” with his debut on Heist Recordings. Pitto is a musically omnipotent creature, venturing into deep house with the underground hit “Richklap” on Wolfskuil back in 2012 and dreamy electronic pop with his album “Breaking up the Static” on Sonar Kollektiv and Virgin. He has also moved beyond producing his own music, running “Studio Stekker”; a Dutch music festival that focused on freeform creative interactions between musicians where the artists performing on the festival locked themselves up a week in advance in Kytopia (Colin Benders’ synth paradise) to make new music together. Through this, he’s worked with people like Kyteman, Matthew Johnson, Sebastian Mullaert and Colin de la Plante, better known as ‘The Mole”, who is also present on Pitto’s Heist debut with a remix.
The ‘Late night studio moves’ ep is one of varied styles, where Pitto’s inspiration from African music, jazzy and soulful samples becomes evident. He finds his ‘funk’ in repetition, clever sample combinations and combining electronic and live elements in the most organic way.
‘Late night studio moves’ finds its basic groove in an African percussive loop. Over the 9:26 minutes, the track slowly adds elements, chopped African chants and piercing synth hits. It’s all really dreamy and energetic at the same time, but it is when the bass and main keys kick in, that you really feel the euphoric vibe of the track. The Mole chose to remix this track and he turned it completely upside down, both in vibe and tempo. His version is an atmospheric and mesmerizing downtempo track, where the percussion works in an intoxicating way and bells, birds and chants move in and out of the spotlight.
Pitto’s second original track on the ep is the mesmerizing ‘Treat me like a fool’. 16th hi-hats, claps on the hats, and a chopped piano loop set the mood here, but it’s the vocal that steals the show. A mantra like ‘You love me’ builds up and breaks down into “you love me like an angel, but you treat me like a fool”. Each time, the track builds and builds, never quite giving in to a massive drop, but instead, focuses on the stripped back soul that is the heart of the track.
‘Jazz kids’ evolves around a jazzy bass loop and a set of quirky African percussive elements that you could imagine Henrik Schwarz making if he were in a more leftfield mood. A syncopated synth melody filters in and out throughout the track and a basic kick and hi-hat combo keeps the energy going strong on this on.
We’re proud to bring you this deep, dreamy and provocative EP by Pitto and hope you’ll enjoy it as much as we do.
Yours Sincerely, Maarten & Lars.

Darko Esser, - Lost In Space
It’s been 4 years since labelboss Darko Esser released an EP of his own on Wolfskuil Ltd. The focus as of late has been on his Tripeo project, resulting in two vinyl only Trips to critical acclaim. All the studio activity led to a whole bunch of other music as well and a few of his favorite sessions are bundled on this conceptual EP. We all can relate to the feeling of being Out Of Context, that we have lost touch with our environment and the people around us or are simply just lost for words. Darko translated these abstract feelings into a soundtrack in three parts (Space, Time, Translation) as music is sometimes a better indicator of how we feel then words. Not suprisingly the result is a soundtrack that is quite moody, hypnotic and multi-layered. It’s dub- and detroit-techno, Esser style. Recognizable but at the same time very distinct and personal, melodies wrapped in abstract sound design, the atmosphere both happy and sad. Ambiguity and introspection have always been a big part of his work, this EP just takes it to the next level.
