It is not that we at Ki like to stick to one genre, but if we would've heard from Colo a few years ago, we probably would've not liked it. Colo are the two young producers and DJ's Ben and Nick that became friends during their studies for sound engineering in London. They actually come from a musical background somewhere above the 140 bpm mark, but have recently started slowing things down significantly. The result is what you can hear on their latest single for Ki, which is a first taste for their upcoming debut-album "UR". On the A-side we have "Holidays", which is a down-tempo track with mystic vocals accompanied by a percussive beat. The dragging flow of "Holidays" is underlined by a soft chorus and crispy sounds giving the track great depths. Colo perfectly showcase their style in this track and that is why it is the first single before their debut album on Ki. On the B-Side we have a remix by none other than Christian Löffler, who gives the track his trademark sound building up slowly and finally turning the original into a spheric deep techno track. Everyone who knows Löfflers sound will immediately fall in love with his contribution to this release.

Christian Löffler is co-founder of Ki Records and well known for his intense, deep moving sound with melancholic undertones. He started to play music at the age of 14. But living in a secluded region near the Baltic Sea, without a musical surrounding, he had to teach himself the essentials of making electronic music. After several stunning releases for Ki and Orphanear, the imprint of Dial's co-founder Pawel, his debut 'A Forest' is now being released through Ki. His music signifies an upward curve of rising intensity from which everything non-essential drops away. Whereat essential is meant in the sense of introspective. If the kick drum thuds along reasonably unassuming in the beginning of a track, it is already withdrawn into itself. Dancing, sure, but with one foot in a dream.

"Aspen" is the name of Christian Loeffler's single before his debut album on Ki called "A Forest". The name of the single is not to be misunderstood as a dedication to the ski resort in Colorado. It's rather a dedication to Christian Loeffler's home region in the north of Germany. Loeffler walked out into the forests near Darss, to take field recordings of the trees that commonly grow in that area, which are called "Aspen". The landscape near Darss is characterized by signs of storm and rough sea climate, but is also considered as a popular health resort in Germany. The tracks on "Aspen" create this contrary atmosphere: Noise and silence, destruction and peacefulness, electronic sounds and traditional instruments unite in harmony. The Cover Artwork for "Aspen" was taken by Christian Loeffler himself in the Forests of Darss.

Following the Debut LP on Ki, we've put together a few of our favorite artists to remix some tracks of their choice. It was important for us, that the artists kept their individual approach to their genre, so that we could get a very diverse release. First up is the Japanese producer Stereociti, who just released his debut album on Mojuba Records. He gives the title track "Reisegefaehrte" his very own deep touch. Second up is our close friend Glitterbug, who seems to create a very own genre with his interpretation of "Barracuda". On the flipside Stundman goes straight to the dancefloor. Jacking beats and pounding basslines are his "Reminder". And as if P.Laoss knew what the real deal is, he turned "Subsistence" into a Fata Morgana trip back to the time when Dub was really "Dub". Perfect completion of what we expected from this Remix EP.
