Strong one on Voyage Direct from Rotterdam's Benny Rodrigues...TIP! The label say "Benny Rodrigues seems to delight in confounding critics. Since making his debut alongside Darko Esser with 2007's Underwater Records-?released "Paradox", the Rotterdam-?based DJ has surprised and excited at every turn. Variously delivering woozy tech-?house, rave revivalism, stripped-?back minimal, jackin' acid, wide-?eyed deep house and, under his occasional ROD alias, shirts-?off warehouse techno. Along the way, he's released music on some of Europe's most prestigious labels, including Desolat, Soma, EC Records, Be As One and Wolfskuil Records. Here, he makes his debut for Tom Trago's Voyage Direct imprint with two undulating, hypnotic, heads-?down tracks that blur the boundaries between house and techno. Rhythmically loose but impressively tough - like all of Rodrigues' best productions - both cuts are built around mesmerising late night grooves and intoxicating chords. "Master French" kicks things off, lacing nagging shakers, subtle synth strings and fluttering chords over a robust, shuffling tech-?house groove. Rodrigues works the mix like a master, bringing elements to the fore before sliding them into the background. It's a simple, heads-?down, 4am groove, but it's executed brilliantly. Almost reaching release number 100, for the 97th label boss Michel de Hey is teaming up again with Rauwkost. After 'Nautiloids' on EC and the 'Gimme Some' for Hey!, this is round three! 'Bluetrain' was already created in spring, but it has been finetuned and played out the whole summer from Ibiza to Argentina in clubs, festivals and beachparties. All with the same result: heads turning and dj's subtly trying to twist their neck by looking what's playing. 'Bluetrain' is the perfect hybrid between the dynamic Rauwkost sound and Michel his funky hip-shaking techno. When Michel played it on 538 Dance Department radio, Taras van de Voorde texted straight away that he wanted to know the title of the record. After hearing it was the new collaboration between Michel and Rauwkost he proposed to do a remix the next day. His remix delivers the smoothness which has been his trademark since his club hits "1998" and "The Game". After playing one of his latest releases on Unrillis, Michel asked Rino Cerrone to bring his Italian techno funk style to the remix, which he did in every way. EC can join the major league baseball competition; after the excellent Benny Rodrigues release EC hits a homerun again.

20 years after his first EC Records release, Michel de Hey is back on his own imprint together with his mate M.I.R.K.O. After their successful release on Paul Ritch his Quartz Music (which peaked the Beatport top 100) they have teamed up again for the two-tracker Heaven/Nocreche. Both tracks were tried and tested during many club and festival gigs, and they promise to make you move at every event. After hearing Heaven during ADE last October Catz 'n Dogz insisted on doing a remix for it, and the result is amazing! Remember when Green Velvet entered the techno scene and transform this to today and you get a dancefloor killer! Sit back and make sure to put your seatbelt on... To complete the package there's a smoothier than smooth remix of Nocreche by superstar duo Piemont. EC records is still going strong after 20 years, with releases to come from Taras van de Voorde, Benny Rodrigues, Rauwkost and more, it remains one of the most significant labels in Holland.
