Mick has been active in the seedier corners of electronic music for more than 30 years, first immersing himself in the world of hi-NRG and new wave before embracing the house, techno, acid and electro explosion of the late 1980s. Aligned with DJ Hell in the 90s and more recently the Intergalactic FM crew, he’s the quintessential selector. A life spent digging in the undergrowth for deviant dance music has given him the edge that makes a truly gifted spinner, without riding on hype or studio productions.

However, Mick isn’t adverse to the odd outing on vinyl, having previously appeared on International DJ Gigolos both solo and as The Kinky Lovers with sometime partner Isabella Venis, but these moments are few and far between. For this release on Arma, Mick has given us two edits that speak to his distinctive style as a DJ – the original tracks are cult choices re-moulded into deadly, subversive club weapons. The brooding darkwave of “Himmelfahrt 89” is enough to turn the most indifferent bar crowd into swaying, baying denizens of the night, while “Stay Silent” pummels out a relentless electro motif that teeters on the edge of destruction for 11 thrilling minutes.

These aren’t crowd-pleasing DJ tools, and neither are they slick and easy edits of obvious classics. This is a peek into the inner workings of a man with decades of experience working masses of flesh into a sweaty fever pitch using sounds you’ve never heard before.

The mastering on Mick’s edits was undertaken by none other than Dutch electro legend Rude 66, while the striking artwork on the sleeve sees Arma reach out for the first time to French artist Judex. The nerve-shredding, broken Op-Art assault was originally found in a book published by cult illustrator Sam Rictus.

At Sound Camp South Asia Jackmate worked together with Asvajit, one of Sri Lankas most talented producers. Several tracks have been worked out and we are proud to present the first two here on phil e! Waran Dub is a stellar piece of Dub-Techno catching the relaxed atmosphere of the island with it´s lush synthworks and a bass-heavy rhythm-track. While doing a little break on our Philpot division phil e after the last release "Carnivale" from Solomun & Jackmate (Phile2009) the latter returns here with two more killer tracks.
Both are straight out his current live set showing demanded typical "Jacker" style as well as some kind of a new Jackmate vibe: even more warm and analog pressure combined with charming Detroitish harmonies.

Solomun is the owner of Diynamic Records in Hamburg, top notch producer and a splendid DJ as well, so a team up with Jackmate came only natural. The first two pieces they deliver here, show their love for lush Detroit-ish soundscapes, combined with demanding drums and repetitive chord progressions par excellance! "Carnivale" is like a growing storm on a hot summer day, building it´s tense with beautiful string arrangements and coming to a climax in rolling thunders of pure bliss! "Factory" is a special little gem of it´s own, that could run for days, so subtle and charming is the flow of this early morning grower. Highly recommended stuff !

Jackmates return on Phil e records is total understatement: "Mont Blanc" feels like a sunrise with the beams of sonic rays atop of a floating, intense drumtrack. Timeless-Techno-one-sided! No wonder this one is DJ Koze`s favourite Techno track at the moment…

Starting his recording career in 1996 on C-Rocks Stir15, this album is a retrospective of Jackmates past and the things to come.Over the years he released on labels like PokerFlat, MorrisAudio and Resopal, did quatriple remixes for artists like International Pony, Egoexpress and Move D and is also well known under his moniker of SoulPhiction and as a member of ManmadeScience.…not to mention we run Philpot Records together.The "Black Box" album contains some older, reworked material as well as live tracks and actual productions.There´s a 2003 update of the PokerFlat classic "The Jacker", the 2001 session "Mentally Disturbed" and "Dynasty", a track from 1998."The Walls" and "Booth" are two livetracks, recorded last year, all other tracks are actual productions.Though this is a very tracky album, it shows the huge diversity in style of Michel Baumann.While every track got it´s own personality, the feel of Chicago-rooted house is everywhere! I dig this album so much, cause it´s raw, it got hooks and it´s f....... funky ...period

Pitto is already famous in Holland for his energetic livesets and his "Moodengineering"-Parties....this is his vinyl-debut! Neustadt36 are Zoran Zupanic and Thorsten Adam from Hamburg, allready known from Philpots "MotorSoul" Compilation series (PHP007+PHP010). On Phil e they transfer dub-techno into a further dimension with the track "Euronion", a build-up monster with massive drum-patterns and a subtle chord-tension, pushing the climax of the track to it`s limits. Calm down on the flipside with "Ben & Jerry", where ambient scapes float along a deep bassline, glitchy rhythms underneath....sweet! More
