After the success of his debut album ‘Back In Flight School’ on Hot Creations, Miguel Campbell has spent the last three years living in Ibiza, dividing his time between touring and the studio. Since returning to his hometown of Leeds last year, his production output has been prolific, with a slew of original tracks and remixes coming through his own Outcross Records imprint, the same label that will release forthcoming second artist album, ‘Night Drive Without You’ on 11th December in both double pack vinyl and digitally. Referencing the style of some of his early work and featuring a variety of both vocal and instrumental cuts, the disco-tinged layers of all 15 tracks make a firm nod towards the French touch scene of the late 90s and early 2000s, but despite the retro influences, Miguel’s skill here lies in creating a body of work that sounds both fresh and futuristic. Rumbling basslines and glossy, electro synths combine perfectly on the future-facing ‘Melody of Love’, while on final track ’Light and Darkness’ he demonstrates a similar balance; incorporating computerised vocal, underpinned by heavy bass licks - the airy vocal countered by the weight of the low end. Vocal tracks on the album feature the talents of both Benjamin Diamond, who appeared on Stardust’s ‘Music Sounds Better With You’ and frequent collaborator Beccs Lott, joining Miguel on ‘Not That Kind of Girl’ and more recently on his ‘Free Falling’ EP. ‘Run With Me’ in particular showcases the synergy between the pair on a track full of verve and bounce, while on ‘Interfunk Music’, he joins forces with Diamond to cosmic, spaced-out effect, with Diamond's hazy, hollowed-out tones adding a new dimension to the record. A natural extension of ‘Back In Flight School’, ‘Night Drive Without You’ is built to take listeners on an abstract, heartfelt journey through a mix of house, funk, jazz and disco - a fluid collection of styles that are now a hallmark of Miguel Campbell records. Bold and exciting, it’s an album ready to make its mark.

Iain O'Hare has been an active part of the Outcross Records family for over 4 years, first releasing with the label in 2011 with “I’ll Come Running” and “Radiovox”. Now he’s returned with his second full EP for the outfit, his first of which was supported by the likes of Wolf & Lamb, Soul Clap, Hot Toddy and label boss Miguel Campbell. Influenced by artists such as Miguel Campbell and Inland Knights, his production brings rolling beats coupled with hypnotic vocal snips and warm bassline grooves. This style fits perfectly with his vibe when behind the decks, as he blurs the boundaries between his deep sounds, disco and house music. Slinky synths and sophisticated rhythms make ‘Words Of Wisdom’ an instant ear opener, it weaves through styles infectiously and masterfully, whilst the vocals add smooth soul vibes to the track. ‘To Keep You’ continues the EP in style with its staggered house beats and bouncy bassline, whilst label boss Miguel Campbell and label-mate MAM add their own unique touches on the title track, showcasing the talent of Outcross Records’ current roster. Leeds based label Outcross records has been consistently building on its reputation as a reliable outlet for floor filling house music for a while now, and here returns with another red-hot package. This one comes from Funky Fat with remixes from label boss Miguel Campbell, MAM and Matt Hughes. Gui Santoro, Thiago Guimarães, Rafael Cury and Manu d’Alcântara are the names behind the Brazilian band FUNKY FAT that is taking the house scene by storm. Their sound has a strong crossover appeal that’s full of deep energy and funky grooves and has so far found support with tastemakers like Solomun, Jamie Jones and Lee Foss. To date the band have released on Hot Creations and got airplay all over the world as a result. First single ‘Ride in the City’ is a gorgeous, sumptuous bit of house music with warm, creamy beats and synths and perfect neo-soul vocals. There’s a live feel to the percussion and twinkling keys that really strike at your heart. So does the bassline, a round, bulbous affair that is supple as it is sexual: this one is sure to be one of the hits of the summer. The first remix comes from talented label boss Miguel Campbell. As well as turning out an album on Hot Creations, so has the man done an Essential Mix in recent times. He is at the very heart of the contemporary house scene and his remix proves why. Slowing things down to a sensual crawl there is more room to breath in this mix. The lulling kicks, heavenly pads and breathy vocals all sooth your soul and scream to be played at some pool party during the summer months thanks to their perfectly libidinous vibes. Next up is the MAM remix – MAM is Miguel and fellow Leeds man Matt Hughes whose most recent works have been remixes of Climbers, Deadmau5 and Flight Facilities, as well as putting out releases via Wolf+Lamb, Future Classic, Hot Creations and Outcross itself. Together MAM up the disco ante with arp’ed synth lines, sprinkles of cosmic dust and lazy basslines that are delightfully uplifting. Buy this EP digitally and you will also get an exclusive remix from Hughes on his own. It’s a delightfully soulful and poppy affair awash with jazz chords and plenty of sing a long vocals that will calm you down and chill your right out no matter your mood. Funky Fat then offer up ‘So Hot’, another breezy bit of deep and pop leaning house that is impossible not to nod to. Poised bass notes, louche claps and starry night sky keys all come together to magical and mind melting effect.

Miguel Campbell's Outcross Recordings comes correct with a new release from Tboy. London based but hailing from Italy, this is Tboy's first EP for the label. Aside from his solo project TBoy collaborates on a regular basis with London based trio Wildkats - a project that has pulled out one EP on Neim Records (To Be) and another EP on Akbal Music (Be An Example) plus the track "Denied" on featured on Jamie Jones's Hot Waves Volume 3.

Northern England based Outcross Records bring you ‘The Break Out’ EP this November by Inland Knights backed with a remix from label heads MAM (Miguel Campbell & Matt Hughes). Inland Knights have been heavily involved with electronic music since the early 90’s, building an enviable reputation through their ‘Smokescreen’ free parties in that era and later starting the reputable Drop Music imprint which over the years has seen support from the likes of Luke Solomon, Phil Weeks, Laura Jones and Lee Foss, evidently showing the diverse appeal embodied in their music. ‘Bounce’ opens the release here and in true Inland Knights fashion storms in with a raw shuffling rhythm. A gritty, penetrating saw wave bass hook is thrown into the mix and the duo’s signature hip-house vocal chops create their own melody on top of the track’s sturdy foundations. The latter stages introduce hypnotizing filtered arp lines and sweeping house synths to the hub of the track, adding further melodic movement and rounding the piece off as classy, retro inspired house music with a forward thinking appeal. Next is ‘Broken Up’, taking on a more stripped-back form with heavily swung drums and an acidic bass-line driving the track. The cut steadily evolves with subtle modulation creating an ever-evolving movement, before breaking things down and introducing organic bass licks, hi-pitched vocal chops and warm brass tones into the consequent stages. Closing the release is ‘Broken Up (MAM Remix), the duo drop the tempo and infuse the cut with their signature slo-mo disco drums, staccato hooky bass and tasteful filter work. MAM tracks have become instantly recognizable for their ‘French House’ feel and understated, less-is-more approach and here they deliver that once more dissecting the key elements of the original and remolding them elegantly.
