We’re really excited about this unusual EP from the unusually talented PhOtOmachine, his first outing on Wicked Bass. 'Black Motorcycle' a dark but deep number, measuredly working its way down into to a solid groove before it lifts its eyes skyward for a breakdown made up of delicate synthwork. 'Good News...Bad Dope' is a more skittish cut, with its percussive elements laying low in the mix, whilst circling synths provide a menacing mood that juxtaposes itself with a well-placed vocal sample. A rough and ready, but nonetheless deeply considered track. Heading in a totally different direction 'Zapp' does weird and wonderful work with a decidedly disco palette, bringing out the toughness of the genre by emphasising a superbly dirty bassline. 'Special Luv' also wraps itself around a filthy disco sample, and indulges in a breakdown which is simply a condensation of sheer sexiness. Four pieces of brilliance from an impressive new talent - what are you waiting for? Stick it in your recordbag quicksharp.

Following a 12’’ single for the Church label, released in Autumn 2012, Lorca reappears with his first full EP containing 3 brand new tracks for 2020 Midnight Visions. Breaking into the scene in 2011 with ‘Moments’ and ‘Hold Back’ on Throwing Snow’s Left_Black imprint; Lorca’s profile has only continued to rise. 2012 saw The release of his first single on Dummy Records, ‘Can’t See Higher/Missed Me’ which was championed by everyone from Scuba to Rob Da Bank to Deetron to Bonobo. This latest release continues to demonstrate the young producers versatile sound. His blend of harmonically rich melody, unassuming vocal snippets and oblique rhythms will work just as well in your headphones as they do on the dancefloor.

After four impressive releases from the likes of Ossie and Behling & Simpson, 2020 Midnight Visions kicks of its attack on 2013 with a new EP from the UK’s Doc Daneeka. Last year saw Doc team up with Benjamin Damage for a well received full length on 50 Weapons, They Live!, which stood apart for its pioneering hybridisation of house, bass and techno. Here, on his own terms, Doc explores a more extroverted, melodically rich variant of bass heavy house across all four tracks. ‘Day By Day’ slowly percolates on lush pads and skippy percussion until flourishing into a reserved yet euphoric track with the arrival of a gauzy old soul sample. From there warm pulses of sub bass prop the lush and rousing arrangement until the end. ‘Just Say The Words’ is another cautiously joyous track with nimble neon chords bringing plenty of dynamism to the buried deep cry of “yes I will”. Rubbery beats sound clean and crisp, lending a most modern and contemporary edge to this new school house template. B1 sees ‘Everyday’ teasing out frazzled synth lines above a booming bottom end that bounces in time with another wellplaced diva wail. Shades of Julio Bashmore lurk within and the end result is familiar feelings of house joy achieved in fresh and unfamiliar ways. Finally, ‘Sunset to Neath’ is of a darker, deeper mood, where prowling sub tones lend menace to the chill of icy chords up

The latest emission from the 2020 Midnight Visions camp comes from Bristol’s Behling & Simpson. Producers, label owners and general men about town, Behling & Simpson are familiar faces on Bristol’s bass music scene with 6 years of experience touring the globe as DJs and over 100 previous releases between them (under various guises). Having honed their production skills and in need of a new challenge, Behling & Simpson are now in the business of crafting fresh and original house cuts, dropping the tempo to allow space for highly swung drums, RnB-esque vocals and deep 808-bass.They are part of the new wave of house music coming out of Bristol that has brought us Julio Bashmore and the fusion sounds of Applepips and Futureboogie, which are the two labels they have previously released on.Their 2020 Midnight Visions EP showcases their love of a shuffley house groove, classic boogie influences and shows how to work the dancefloor without working the bpm. 'Closer' features the sexy vocals of Shanti Celeste, she may not say a great deal, but she definitely gets her point across over the bumpin New Jersey house grooves that recall classic MAW or Todd Terry on -8. 'Fuse Strategy' feat James Foxx fires up some deep bass with the slick house beats, which fits in perfectly with the Bristol sound, and 'Fuse Strategy' rounds off the EP in style with a deeper take on their sound.

2020 Midnight Visions return with another superb ep of fresh club music. The third release on the new offshoot label comes from Holland's Presk whose previously released on Ramp offshoot Fourth Wave and on Doc Daneeka's Ten Thousand Yen label. This EP follows where those left off mixing techno, skippy garage drums, and classic house styles with a close eye on the rave. The two a-side tracks 'Nobody Makes Me Do' and 'Akola' are cut from the same cloth, channeling classic electro and jackin house styles with choice vocals samples, but with an undeniable 2012 twist and are both aimed squarely at the dance. Cerano City on the flip takes a slightly different route to the dancefloor, with its hypnotic Detroit pads and definite C2 influence, in the right hands at the right time this will cause some serious damage. This is another excellent EP from 2020 Midnight Visons and another clear statement of their intent to release forward thinking club music

2020 Midnight Visions follow up the excellent Photomachine debut ("As an overall statement of intent, it's a bold and successful one." Resident Advisor) with a killer EP from Ossie. His previous EP's were released on Hyperdub and Lightworks with 'Tarantula' making Fact's top 50 tracks of 2011. He also supplied a killer remix to the massive Joe Goddard track 'Gabriel', and recently released an excellent EP as Black Orange Juice on Somethinksounds, which saw him collaborate with Paul Black and Orial, who he brings along to supply live vocals on this new EP. Coming from the London underground scene Ossie is definitely a name to watch, he effortlessly blends garage, classic house and R&B influences into an infectious sound that he can call his own. Whether working with a full vocal on Super Cali, the lush strings of Love Crazy or dealing with classic house styles on Housedabass Ossie operates with a deft touch and builds his tracks with the dancefloor at the forefront of his mind. It's rare that an EP unites the different house and garage tribes, but early reactions to the variety of styles on display this EP have seen positive feedback across the board. With a single on Hypercolour later in the year, gigs at fabric, and high profile fans like Benji B and Mary Anne Hobbs Ossie is definitely on the ones to watch list, much like 2020 Midnight Visions who have delivered another fresh take on modern club music.
